I would give zero stars if I could. We chose Gentle Hearts for my mom because we wanted her to be surrounded by those who speak Tagalog. When we moved her into the home in January 2023, it was our first experience with a living facility, so we didn’t know what to expect. She didn’t even stay for 2 weeks before the director decided to kick her out. My mom was a stroke survivor, but her needs became too great for my dad to handle alone. The residential home told us that they have their own medical team, so they would be able to adequately meet my mom’s needs. My mom began to experience signs of what I now know was vascular dementia - a common diagnosis for stroke survivors. My mom ended up calling 911 while having an episode. The ambulance came and since we did not have a Power of Attorney in place, the EMTs took her to the ER. This was around dinner time. At 11:58 pm, the director texted me and said they would not accept my mom back into the facility. They did not even wait to see the results or diagnosis that the ER doctors had - they just kicked my mom out in the middle of the night! My mom was left at the ER until I was able to scramble together some help at that hour. The medical team at Gentle Hearts did not try to evaluate my mom again or determine what caused her changes in behavior in the short time she was there. Instead, they abandoned her at washed their hands of us. Yet they were happy to keep majority of the money that my dad paid for the month of January. I am writing this review to spare others of the pain of experiencing such a horrible situation. Find another place for your loved one.

The rooms at Gentle Hearts Chula Vista are nice. It's a very clean facility and the yard is beautiful. The only room that was available when mom moved in was very small and it wouldn't adequately hold her recliner. Just yesterday she moved into a larger room and we'll see how it goes and how she adjusts to the change. She's just been there a week now and I'm not sure where we're going with this, but the staff is very, very nice. It's owned by a mother and her daughter and they seem to know what they're doing. Three meals are included. The rooms come with closet space, a dresser, and a television. Then we had to provide a bed. Mom wanted her own landline, so that was an additional cost. They have a wall of games and puzzles and that type of thing, but as far as planned activities, I haven't encountered that yet.
