Sharon is known for its family-owned businesses and cultural amenities, making it a prime option for retirees seeking long-term care in western Pennsylvania. Of its 13,000 residents, more than 17% are retirement-aged, promoting access to age-friendly programs and services. It’s one of the cheapest places to live within the state, enabling older adults to maintain a comfortable standard of living throughout retirement.
Sharon seniors who cannot safely or comfortably live alone may benefit from assisted living. These facilities provide housing and meals, along with personalized care services, housekeeping and recreational activities. Some facilities are pet-friendly and have amenities such as swimming pools, fitness centers and libraries. Care costs vary depending on a given facility’s amenities, but according to the 2021 Genworth Cost of Care Survey, Sharon residents pay $4,738 per month for this type of care. This rate exceeds state and national medians.
This guide provides more information on assisted living costs in Sharon as well as options for paying for services. It also highlights some benefits and considerations before relocating to the area, and an overview of some of the rules assisted living facilities in Sharon follow.

I had a family member in this home. They were miserable, The lady running the house is very unprofessional and downright rude. She speaks to the residents as if they were animals, doesn’t feed them well and has no business being a care provider. I feel that my family member was abused and neglected in this home. There have been reports made with the area agency on aging and with the licensing department. Good luck with your search. If you need to see for yourself, make a visit. You will find a smelly unclean house with mean and uncaring workers.

My mom moved into Windsor Estates Assisted Living for a respite stay. It’s an absolutely excellent place. I have no complaints at all. They’re wonderful. My mom says the food is good and there’s plenty of it. She’s enjoying all the activities that they have. She was not being real social at home, but once we got her in there, I think they kind of drew her out a little bit, and she’s back to being social and happy and enjoying things. So, they’ve been really, really good. She said all the staff are very friendly and very helpful, and she’s very comfortable with them. She says she has a very comfortable room. She feels good being there. They put a lift chair in the room for her. The furniture in her room is very nice and in very good condition.

I toured here. I connected with the person I met with there. I liked the layout of the building. It was a great location to where I live, so it’s very convenient for me to go see my mother, and that was a huge factor. It was a very pleasant environment, and it seemed like they were very caring people. The rooms were really nice and fresh. It was very positive.
When I got there, there were some people doing something in the lobby. The staff went over about their calendar and the things they have. They definitely try to keep the residents very active and involved, so I thought that was very good. It’s very stimulating for the individual. And because of the way it’s laid out, you can go down and have a walk, but if you get a little winded or it’s overwhelming for you, there are different quiet places that you could go. You could be with people or just be out of your room, but they have a nice little quiet space, so I thought that could accommodate all needs.

I’m currently in Windsor House at Liberty Arms Assisted Living Residence. They have terrible management. Rude, arrogant, arbitrary, capricious, and acting with actual malice. The rooms are fine, the food is good, and the activities are limited. They have one activities person, and she’s spread thin, but she works her heart out for this place, it’s just there’s limited activities. Also, with COVID, I understand they cannot be doing field trips or anything like that. The amenities include a bathroom, and have a little kitchenette which consists of a kitchen sink, a small refrigerator, and a small microwave. This is an older facility, so it’s very limited on electrical outlets. They do have a chapel. In fact, I just got out of a service that they held. They have priests come in from a couple of local churches and they do communion service weekly.

Everybody that we talked to was extremely friendly. If we were to move together, we definitely would move into Park Vista.

They all seemed to interact with each other. You walk into the main doors and you walk right into the main sitting area and it’s all wide open. They’ll occasionally have somebody come in and play some music and everybody will sit there. It’s very clean, and it’s newer. That’s how they handle their patients there. I believe the patients will be given a wrist bracelet that will set off an alarm if they try to go out the door. The staff was very helpful, took the time with me, and the building itself is absolutely beautiful. My father is going to a private room, but it’s small, only 300 sq. ft. It looks brand-new, with a nice spacious bathroom, and all brand-new features. They had a lot of outdoor gardens, and they were accessible to all the patients. Very beautiful. They are supposed to transport him to different appointments. They did walk me by an exercise room, complete with all the equipment.

I found a place for when my mother-in-law is ready to go. It’s The Lakes at Jefferson in Mercer. We toured their 2nd floor, which is the 24-hour care facility. The 1st floor has no assistance at all. They said when you’re on the 2nd floor, they clean your place, wash your clothes, tell you of your medicines, and anything that you would need medically. They also take you to any appointments.
It’s like you’re walking into the most beautiful wedding reception hall or even like a gentleman’s club back in the day that you would see in movies because the floors are just stunningly beautiful. It has couches and beautiful furniture all over, and even a pool table that’s just beautiful. The colors of the whole place, even the flowers, it’s all beautiful. When you walk in, they have this big, long white counter and it’s all refreshments that anybody can have, even if you’re going for a visit. There are beautiful tables and chairs. It’s so state-of-the-art. When I walked in, I thought my mother-in-law would love this place. I’ve seen other ones that look so run down and this is the nicest one I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t even look like you’re going to a nursing home.
I did not talk to the staff, but I was introduced to a couple. What I liked is that that particular day they had a large van and any of the residents that wanted to go to Kaynak’s are going on that trip that day. Those that didn’t (because it was around Easter when I went) could come to help stuff eggs because they have a huge egg hunt for any family members, children, or even the local residents. They put on shows and entertainment, and they’re outdoors. They have beautiful patios with fire pits and a waterfall thing. It’s just nothing like I’ve ever seen that could be associated with the nursing home. If I go and visit, they have a private lounge room that’s just like a living room with a big-screen TV. It’s small enough to make it intimate, but large enough that if you had eight people with you or the whole family, you’re all comfortable.
I loved their meals too. They have an area where they post for the whole month, what they’re having every day. They also have alternatives if you don’t like that. I was just impressed, from top to bottom. I didn’t meet any staff or personally talk to them, but I was introduced to one of their members who was in charge that day.
I did not try their food, but the menu looked like something I would want. They even have a Taco Tuesday, where they literally have like a taco truck that comes out. They have certain things that happen weekly for the residents, aside from what they also cook inside the place. They have specialty trucks that come with special food.
They had a hair salon right on-site and a workout area, a beautiful gym.
The only thing that was different was just something that I did not expect from the phone call. When I went there, was the room that I got quoted was a price of $2800 a month for a semi-private (so there would be two people in that room). If you want the private one all to yourself, it’s $4500 (which my mother-in-law doesn’t have). The semi-private area was still really nice. The bathroom was huge and then the other room adjoined to that just looked like a hotel. It has 2 beds, a TV, a little kitchenette, a little sink with a refrigerator, and its own dressers. They just had a hotel look.

We toured Marian Living Center. It was our second choice. It was nice where they were located in the building. They had enough for the assisted living plus. They also had nursing across time limits. A lot of the places only had nursing with the morning and the afternoon shift, and then they would have an aide watching on the night shift. They had a nurse 24/7 on the premises. It was very nicely laid out. There was a lot of community space there. I don’t think there’s anything to improve on. I believe they have a salon that they could go to, I know that they go on activities, and one of the things that they went on recently was they went on an outdoor concert. There were a lot of different things that they were doing.
