The best part of the facility is the food. I find the dietary staff is always accommodating when we visit mom. The food is excellent quality and superb service. Overall I’m very pleased with the care but I feel the activities available are lacking. Thank you to all the staff at shenango on the green.

The building and apartment style rooms are adequate; some aging of the main structure is apparent while the free standing homes are quite nice. Residents are friendly; staff can be mixed for friendliness and thoroughness for their duties. The turnover rate of maintenance staff has been problematic and landscaping services seem average. The food service personnel do try but the quality seems to suffer based on whatever pricing structure was agreed upon with the 3rd party food service program. Meeting special needs diets is also attempted yet can fall short. Making accomodations for adjusting what courses are received (subbing a vegetable for a salad or soup) often involves an upcharge. $14 for any meal (B,L,D) if not part of the meal program seems steep for the quality and quantity.

The independent living services are slow to respond to concerns. The summer of 2023 the air conditioning chiller unit malfunctioned on and off for over a month. A maintenance employee said the filters and other maintenance were not done for several years resulting in part of the issue. The weekend at the start of the big heat wave in 2024 again saw the unit non-functioning. There was no one with maintenance there or on call that would come in to get it started until Monday, requiring residents to be there all weekend without air conditioning in the rooms.

I agree with an earlier review. The building is gorgeous, that is, until you walk onto the third floor nursing home with the sickest patients. But the worst is the staff. The only compassionate staff are the social worker and the admissions coordinator. Everyone else is either too busy on their cell phone to take care of the patients or doesn't take your concerns seriously when you bring them to their attention. Even the managers don't care and it is obvious.

This is a beautiful, family focused facility. All of the staff that I have been in contact with are caring and seem to truly enjoy their job. There are many opportunites for socializing from the libraries to gamerooms and out door facilities. Many clients have their own rooms which allows for privacy and a sense of security. A wonderful variety of meals are provided and the activities are endless.

The Shenango Presbyterian Home is a lovely looking facility. The halls are always clean and decorated for the season. The receptionist is always friendly and accommodating. However, that is where the good qualities of this facility end. I had an aunt who resided at SPH for years, and the staff is just ridiculous. They are unfriendly and unreceptive. They do not appreciate it when family members visit the residents too frequently. My aunt had been very ill and I was visiting her every day, and it was impossible to illicit a hello or even a smile from any of the staff members on arrival. The staff ignores residents' call buttons for anywhere up to 45 minutes before responding. They speak harshly to the residents, and are rough on their older brittle bones. It saddens me because they put on a good show for the family members who visit the home very infrequently. For those of us who are there every day and see how people are really treated, I have to tell you, GET YOUR LOVED ONE OUT OF THERE!
