"Winterberry Heights Assisted Living was very, very nice. It was very clean and bright. The people were very helpful and it seemed like a nice place to stay. We saw an activity board and they had card games and bingo nights."

"I am a retired nurse, and I have a great deal of experience in health care facilities. I recently spent one month in the Skilled Nursing Wing of Harbor Hill. I found the staff at all levels to be cheerful, caring and proficient at their jobs. All seemed to work together as a team. Harbor Hill is a very clean, beautiful building overlooking Belfast Harbor, with gorgeous shrubs, trees and flowers along tarred walking paths. I give Harbor Hill 5 stars!! "

"My mother went in as an Independent, then eventually went to assisted living before she needed full time care. The Residence took wonderful care of her and the nurses and nurses aids were the best...caring, helpful, sympathetic. The Activities Director always made sure to tell mom about any games, music, or trips that were taking place. Mom is very particular about her food. The kitchen staff always made sure she had her favorites and gave her excellent choices when she didn't care for the menu. The entire staff was very communicative to myself, too. I can't say enough good things about The Residence. Then when she needed to move over to The Commons for full care, the transition was without incident. Very easy move. I highly recommend Tall Pines facilities."

"Windward Gardens' setup for assisted living is one shared room with a shared bathroom and no kitchenette. My in-laws would not want to be in one small room. It's a much smaller community than the other place we saw, but the people were very nice. The rooms were smaller and most of them were shared. There are only a few options for private rooms. I thought it's a charming place with potential. It had a bird who get a lot of attention. This community allows dogs to come and visit, which is important for my sister since she has dogs. Overall, it's a nice community for what you might need, although there's fewer choices in terms of activities. I only saw a few of the residents and many of them are in wheelchairs. They also have amenities, like a hair salon, but they don't have a medical director on-site."

"I have been to Quarry Hill. I like it very much. I felt good that they have apartments of different sizes and different costs, although I wish they had more meals to offer. The location seems nice. It seems to be in a park-like setting, and I’m used to living out in the country, so for me, that’s the feeling. I like the friendliness that I found there. "

"Deer Isle Nursing Home has a very beautiful location in Coastal Maine, surrounded by semi- forest. There are garden areas designed for residents to relax in, but rarely is it used. A few old time songs constantly play in rotation over the intercom, which my grandmother is not fond of. Harsh lighting and bland decor make it a rather dreary place to visit, but there are splashes of life in some of the original paintings that line the hallways. One of the worst aspects of this place is the terrible food, whos quality is comparable to a school lunch menu on a tight budget. As far as I can tell, though, the staff are considerate of the residents, and try to make it as amusing a place to live as possible. There are regularly sing alongs, coffee hour, exercising, board games as well as a beauty salon, resident cats and birds, and therapeutic dogs who visit. People seem to enjoy the dogs a lot. A bus also caters to the residents of the nursing home, bring competent seniors to the surrounding areas of Blue Hill and Bangor. This is an important service when considering the somewhat isolated, rural location and the inevitable boredom of living in what amounts to a hospital hotel. "

"I can't say enough about Woodlands Senior Living of Brewer, it was outstanding. Everyone was accommodating. The staff member that gave us the tour, her name's Maria, was very knowledgeable. If she didn't have the answers, she knew right where to get them for us. It was a really good experience, and I'd recommend it to people if they're at all looking to check it out. I didn't realize how big this company is, they have several facilities throughout the state. This facility is supposedly older, and I would never have guessed that. That's how good the upkeep is about it. I've gone to other facilities, but hands down, they're thinking about the people and you can tell that they know what they're doing. They know what they're talking about doing and they've been doing this a long time, their focus is on the patients or the residents."

"Freese's was a nice place, but it was a high rise with several floors. The first floor is for the community and activities, and then the second floor and up is the apartments. As far as walking up the stairs and in and out, it would be very hard, so we didn't really like that one. The staff was very polite. They had a community area where people can socialize and get together. It was very clean, and the overall appearance was beautiful. The dining facility was very nice. The area is very dark at night, so we thought the building would not be very safe to go out if you had to. They should have probably lighting outside and more security steps for the occupants, maybe cameras. "

"I visited a loved one at Phillips-Strickland House in Bangor. She was in their assisted living wing and they had very kind and caring people from everything that I have seen there. I've only been over probably 3 times because of COVID. It would have been a year ago since my last visit. The physical appearance of it was fine. It looked very clean, very well kept, and painted well. As far as the wings go, I believe there were 6 rooms attached to a living room, and then, of course, that leads into where the big dining area is for everybody on that floor. It's a great setup. They can eat in their rooms if they're feeling that way or they can eat at the dining table. They take great care of them and she's been happy. I've never tasted the food but she claims it's very, very good. She's a great cook, so she would know. The activities were very good too and the residents enjoyed them. They do light physical exercises."

"My 91yr old mother was admitted on April 11th 2025 to the waterman unit for 13 weeks after she fractured her hip & elbow. She had excellent care from ALL of the staff from the housekeeping ,nursing aids business office, social services , PT /OT RN,PA /NP and the MD's!! Any concern ( which was not many) I brought to the attention of the staff was addressed in a timely matter !! They were kind and engaging and most important of all they listened to my mom!! I am a RN for the last 38 yrs and I know great care when I see it!! BRAVO to the waterman staff!! Keep up the awesome care!! You are hard working crew & dedicated to your patients and it was a joy to get to know you all the last 13 weeks!! I always looked forward to visiting my mother on a daily basis and seeing all your smiling faces!!"

"Sylvia Ross Home at Ross Manor is very attractive, very welcoming, and very clean. My friend has been there for about six months now and she's very pleased. They have great care. They come in and do vitals, and you can stay there and graduate into more serious health issues. It's right there, so you don't have to go off and find another place. The food is good. She loves it. There's always some kind of entertainment going on. The fact is, I'm jealous of what she has. Nobody entertains me or washes my floors. They do everything for you. She's got a washer and dryer in her room and a nice bathroom. It's a one-bedroom, and it's very pleasant, very sunshiny, and lovely. The staff is excellent and knowledgeable. The only complaint my friend has that lives there is that the directory is missing. It tells you where a person is, and it's hard for people to come to find somebody. Other than that, everything's good. They do different things. They have bingo. She had to give up her car when she went there, and it was hard to do some of the things that she was used to doing, like having her hair done. They went beyond the call of duty to get her to places that she needed to go. I've been to some of the things that they've had there. I think that she's happy, and her brother oversees her money, and he's satisfied with what she gets for her money."
