Assisted Living Communities in Calhoun, GA

"We are in the process of moving my mother-in-law to Brookdale Rome. The rooms are very modern. We are doing the only double suite that they have in the building. It's clean, painted, and ready to move in. The staff who gave the tour was very helpful. They were very pleasant. They gave a comprehensive review of the facility. They answered all our questions. And overall, it was just a pleasant experience. It's going to be assisted living because my mother-in-law is getting her meals, she is getting linens washed once a week, and she's getting the garbage picked up daily. She still needs to move in though."

"All interactions with staff have been positive. The Activity Director is wonderful! She works hard to involve the residents in various activities throughout the day. Her positive attitude is infectious!"

"My husband has been here for two weeks now. It's a very nice place, and the food is great. Everybody seems to be good to him. The staff is fine; they're doing well. His room has a small kitchenette in it with a refrigerator, a sink, and a countertop with some cabinets. It has a huge closet and a nice bathroom. It's a nice, big room. They have a large room out there with a big TV in it, but I don't think they have activities right now, probably because of COVID. There's a man from somewhere who does rehabilitation therapy for them. They also have somebody who cuts hair. He said they have a back door where they can go out and sit on a covered deck. They have a courtyard there with a gazebo and a sidewalk, and you can go for a walk. He can't do that, though, because he's blind; he has to have assistance. I ate lunch with him the first day he was there and the food was good. They have a huge dining room and a huge living room. He has to be helped to go to these rooms, though."

"The staff, owners, and residents are wonderful. My husband and I were residents their two years ago after a health issue. The care my husband received was amazing and enabled us to return home. We are now in the process of moving back in permanently and love that almost all of the employees are still there and remember us. It makes the transition so much easier to already know the staff and so many of the residents."

"The Fountains in Cartersville is lovely. It is a wonderful facility, and it would be good for my dad when the time comes for him. He is still in very good condition. It would not be appropriate for my mother because they don't allow restraints or bedrails. Even in memory care, there were no restraints, and I knew immediately that would not work for my mother. The rooms were spacious and very tastefully done. They were bright, and there were no dull, depressing colors. They were spotlessly clean, with just an uplifting ambiance to each room. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The dining room was lovely."

"The community of Oaks at Ellijay is excellent. The staff is good. My mother had a hard time adjusting, but that's normal and she's doing much better now, and I think she's much happier. She's starting to get involved in more activities. They have a lot for them to do and she's eating better. So overall, it's been a good experience. Her room is fine. She's got her own bathroom. The room's not big, but it's got everything she needs in it. At first, she was upstairs, away from everybody and I think that she felt isolated. When a room came open, they moved her and so she's two doors down now from the dining room, and she's much happier. There's more interaction. That room was pretty much the same as the other one. They also had options of getting a one-bedroom with a sitting suite, but she didn't need that. They print out the menu for the entire week: breakfast, lunch, and dinner and I'm very impressed with the menu. Overall, the food looks fine. The dining experience is good. She's sitting with people she likes now. So, she's being a lot more social. Overall, I'm impressed with the fact that they can put that many meals out and have the variety that they have and it looks good. I haven't eaten any of the meals. I had a bowl of soup one day and it was very good, but from what I've seen and from talking to other residents (some of them have been there for 4 to 7 years), everyone seems very happy with the place. The fact that the residents have been there that long and that they're happy, that alone says something about the Oaks at Ellijay as well. They're very attentive. I don't have an issue with any of the staff. The place is kept very clean. There's no nursing home smell to it. There's none of that. They have a movie night, exercises every day, and devotionals. So, they do a lot and you can choose to participate or not. Their cost is pretty much on par with other places, but, for what they do, I'm very happy with what we're paying."

"I do not have anyone living at Morning Pointe but have been there for Caregiver Workshops and a Support Group meetings. I took my mother-in-law to these meetings; she is the main caregiver for her 97 year old mother and her 72 year old husband, both who have dementia-the workshop was just what my mother-in-law needed and was beneficial to me as well. The facility is very nicely decorated ('homey') and clean. The staff is always very friendly, helpful and empathetic-whether you are a 'paying customer' or not. It is evident that they truly care! "

"The Oaks at Fairmount was very nice because it was very clean. I spoke with Jody, she gets back to you right away. I think is very high on our consideration list. They're understanding about the process the family has got to go through. The rooms and dining area are very clean, quaint, and country style, which would fit my mother-in-law's personality perfectly. There's no odor. They have a nice like community room, a TV room, they have porches, and they encourage people to go outside and get fresh air. Families can come and visit on that porch as well. The COVID restrictions were in place, although my mother-in-law's been vaccinated and all. They have community activities, and they ask questions about what are the things that my mother-in-law likes; I said she likes country music so they'll have music."

"Shady Oaks was one of the best facilites in our area. The price was less expensive than the others. They have rooms with a bathroom in it. The lady that owns the place is a registered nurse. The staff were nice and they have someone capable of handling medications and giving them to the patients when they are due. They take good care of my mother. I have not eaten there, but I saw that the food they serve looks good and my mom likes it. "

"The Gardens at Royal Oaks has been wonderful with my mother. I'm very pleased with them. Her room is fine and clean. The dining room is really nice, and she gets three full meals a day. The staff is very attentive. They have excellent food. There's a monthly activity calendar that comes out with a variety of things, like bingo, shopping, chair yoga, manicures, and movies."

"We saw the dining room at the Spring House at Cartersville. The rooms are still being renovated, and because of the renovations it wasn't safe to go view the rooms. But they had pictures of the rooms, and the pictures looked very nice. We got to see the place where they would be doing crafts, projects, and all kinds of entertainment for the residents. It was all very nice. I think it was a hotel that was renovated for assisted living. They sat down and talked with us, they showed us the pictures, and we got pamphlets. We got all kinds of verbal information and written information that we could take home with us. The staff we met were very intelligent. They were telling us all kinds of information, showing us the projects that they had been working on, and showing us the crafts that they have for the residents, some of the plans they have for the future, and things for them to do. What we saw was great. They also have patios, and they have a pool that's being reconstructed so that it can be used for water aerobics."

"I toured Tiger Lily Estates. They were kind of neat. They were very new and very modern. They are current, and I liked it because it was new, more spacious, and more consistent. It was not what I was looking for, but it was beautiful. However, you had to leave the facility to go to a common area for events. I didn't care for that because you would be traveling in the rain or cold. If you were someone in a wheelchair or being pushed, I didn't care for that. It would not have worked for my friend because of her age. The rooms were spacious and current, so everything was consistent. It's like an apartment, and they're kind of cookie cutter. They had their own living-bedroom area and bathroom. They were very consistently the same, so you wouldn't find one a little smaller than another. They were spacious enough for a single person in the later years of life. They're clean and fresh because they're brand new. They had a calendar of events, and they had their in-house salon. There were a couple of things you could do in-house, but they had more structured activities (even things like chair exercises). They had a program, so I like that part about it. People would come and perhaps play the piano or do entertainment in a big area. They just do events in that building. They're not exclusively, but they're very fresh and very current. They have a separate kitchen area, and they bring food like a dorm. They're new, and they're recruiting. The staff were very, very nice and very informative. They followed up afterwards. They really wanted us to be happy or to be informed and have all the information we needed to make a decision. Everybody on that day couldn't be more attentive to make sure we understood and were good about what we were looking at."

"My dad has been staying at Orchard Ridge Residences. The facility is very clean, and the staff is caring. He loves the food. His room is nice, and their dining area is very nice and well-kept. They have plenty of activities, and they go on outings."

"The Spires at Berry College is a lovely environment. The people there are very nice. They were very understanding and patient, and they had lots of information. They showed us around, extensively showed us the grounds, and gave us lots of options. They had one bedroom in memory care, but they had studios for assisted living. It's a very nice place. I went over there three times and saw all of it. They have different price points for places to live out there, but the memory care is a wing inside the facility, so they're secure. There's a swimming pool, a workout center, and all the amenities you want. They have buses to take you out if you're not in memory care."
