Seniors seeking an active but still easygoing lifestyle may find what they’re looking for in the central Wisconsin city of Oshkosh. As of 2019, the city had a population of 67,004, with seniors accounting for 14.1% of that number. Much of the area’s culture is tied to Lake Winnebago, which is one of the most popular fishing areas in the country and hosts major tournaments year-round. The 30-mile-long lake takes up the entirety of Oshkosh’s east side, providing plenty of swimming, boating and waterfront dining locations. Menominee Park Zoo, also on Lake Winnebago’s shores, offers free admission and is popular among animal lovers for its rotating cycle of temporary attractions alongside permanent elk, wolf, eagle and otter exhibits.
According to data from the Genworth Cost of Care Survey 2020, the average monthly price of homemaker services in the Oshkosh area is $4,957; the price for home health aide services is identical. That puts such costs slightly over the U.S. averages, which are $4,481 per month for homemaker services and $4,576 per month for home health aide services.
At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Oshkosh area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

Oshkosh Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Oshkosh:
Address: 200 N Campbell Road, Oshkosh, WI 54902
Phone number: (920) 232-5300
The Oshkosh Seniors Center offers two locations in the city. Activities and programming are open to those 50 and up and include free blood pressure clinics and flu shots, fitness and balance classes, education opportunities and social events. Seniors can make use of a well-equipped art studio and woodshop. City transit provides seniors with free transportation for trips to and from the centers.

Residents are encouraged to attend the ADRC committee’s monthly public meetings to provide input on and help shape its services.

The WISE program is designed to help older low-income, unemployed adults get the skills and experience they need to receive an income in the modern workforce. Open to Wisconsin residents 55 and up, the program connects its participants with community service positions in government or nonprofit agencies. Participants may work in schools, community centers, libraries and similar locations.
Address: Energy Services Inc – WHEAP Sub, 303 Pearl Ave Ste D, Oshkosh, WI 54901

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – oftentimes it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
