Homestead’s location in the southern part of the Miami metropolitan area makes it an ideal locale for seniors who appreciate warm weather, outdoor activities and convenient access to big-city amenities. Sandy beaches and the calm tides of Biscayne Bay are minutes away, and the city’s location between the Southern Glades and the Mangrove Preserve gives its 5,492 seniors opportunities for outdoor adventures in every direction.
While Miami and its vast array of shopping, art and cultural attractions is only a short drive to the north, Homestead has numerous fun places to visit, including the Coral Castle, Homestead-Miami Speedway and Everglades Alligator Farm. Considering that Homestead’s overall cost of living is around 8% above the national average, in-home care is surprisingly affordable here. On average, seniors in Homestead spend $3,623 a month for home care, which is $858 less than the national average. Home health care, which includes light medical care, averages $3,813 or $763 below the U.S. median.
Note: Home care cost data wasn’t available for Homestead, so data for the closest city, Miami, was used.
At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Homestead area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

I have used Advancare to care for my 88-year-old mom, who has advanced Alzheimer’s. I have found the various Advancare staff to be pleasant and responsive and to understand the needs of my mom and me. If for any reason a substitute caregiver is needed, they find one quickly and always want to make sure my mom and I are happy. I have tried other agencies and am most satisfied with Advancare. I recommend Advancare without reservation, and have recommended them to friends.

Service by Special Care At Home Services was very good. I only used them for a short time and I was very pleased. They gave my husband special care for his medications and with coordinating the equipment he needed at home. They made sure that he got that. The caregiver was excellent. I had talked to others, but I selected them because they seemed very compassionate, caring, and they called me back. If I needed help and I reached out to them, they always got back to me quickly. They went the extra mile to make everything work out.

KHANEL HOME HEALTH gave us 3 caregivers for my disabled elderly mother and they have all been exceptional. The first two were 9-5pm for 1 yr and I was the night person. After that we decided to try a live-in. It was a huge decision to change what was working so well but I was exhausted beyond description. It’s been 6 months now and our live-in is an angel and my mom adores her. Julian and Ava both listened to my concerns and fears and they chose so well. They know that you might have to keep trying new caregivers to find the perfect match and are willing to keep doing that until you are very happy with your person. I am very thankful for this agency one of the best in town.

We chose Caregivers of America to help us care for my mom when she was diagnosed with Cancer. The office staff was extremely understanding and compassionate every time we called with questions. A girl originally from the Bronx, Mom was very outspoken, to say the least. Well, the office staff chose a wonderful, patient aide who mom eventually allowed to help her bathe and get dressed, and kept her close to grab her when she got wobbly. She also took her to and from the Cancer treatment center which she needed because she would get sick on the bus they provided. The aide was punctual and stayed in touch with us. Our experience with Caregivers of America was a blessing in such unfortunate circumstances.

Homestead Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Homestead:
Address: 1600 NW 6th Court, Homestead, Florida 33034
Phone Number: (305) 247-2068
Seniors enrolled in E.H.E.A.P can receive up to $3,500 to pay past due energy bills. To receive assistance, seniors will have to provide the official cut-off notices they received from their utility company, identification for all household members showing at least one resident is 60 years of age or older and verification of total household income. Benefits are dependent on the program’s available funding.
Address: 760 NW 107 Ave., Suite 201, 214, Miami, FL 33172
Phone Number: (305) 670-4357
Administered by Alliance for Aging, the local Area Agency on Aging, the HCE program helps seniors avoid nursing home placement by providing a monthly cash payment to be used for in-home care services. The average monthly subsidy is $160. Some seniors may also be eligible to receive special subsidies for home health aide services, incontinence supplies and other predetermined care services. To qualify, seniors must be at least 60 years of age, meet the program’s income requirements and have a caregiver living with them at their residence.
Address: 701 NW 1st Court, 10th Floor, Miami, FL 33136
Phone Number: (786) 469-4730
Managed by the Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department, the federally funded Weatherization Assistance Program helps low-income residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes, leading to lower utility bills. Installing attic insulation, weather stripping and replacing inefficient light bulbs are a few of the services the program’s workers may complete. Seniors need to provide documentation showing their household income doesn’t exceed 200% of the federal poverty guidelines to qualify. Depending on the condition of an individual’s home, the program may also cover the repair or replacement of the water heater, exterior doors, windows and refrigerator.
Address: 701 NW 1st Court, 10th Floor, Miami, FL 33136
Phone Number: (786) 469-4707
Through the Meals on Wheels program, homebound seniors can receive fresh fruit, milk and seven frozen meals a week delivered to their residence. The program is completely free for qualifying seniors who must be at least 60 years of age and unable to prepare their own meals. Meals are delivered on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
