My mother was at Somerset Retirement Home and Assisted Living. It was a great facility. They took really good care of her, and they weren't expensive either. The staff was very caring. When she pushed her button, they were there in a heartbeat to see what she needed. They had nice and clean rooms, and the atmosphere seemed to be good. They had people come in to sing and play music. They played bingo and they played some kind of baseball game. My mom loved their salad bar. That's about all she ate. But the food wasn't bad. I tasted some sandwiches that she couldn't eat, and it was good. Their dining area was nice and the staff was running all over the place, taking care of all the other people. They had a beauty salon. They did have an area where you could walk around the whole building and they had a Koi pond with a waterfall and rocks. It was nice looking.

I went to tour Somerset Retirement Home and Assisted Living. You can start in independent living and if you need assisted living, they'll offer that, too, on different levels. I liked it. I liked the building, I like the facilities, and I like the staff and some of the residents that I met. The empty room that I went into was a one-bedroom, and it was adequate. They had a regular refrigerator (not a little midget one) but no stove. It was roomier. You could have a queen-sized bed and still have space in your bedroom. The living room was much larger than any of the other ones I saw. They kind of pointed things out in the different rooms that they did there. They showed us a lovely library. There are tables all around the whole building where you could do puzzles or play cards. They have a lot of activities on their calendar. They have all-purpose bingo, several other games, and little tournaments. They take you on little trips if you want to and they go to the doctor. There is transportation available and a parking lot if you have a car, which I do. The staff was very nice, very pleasant and helpful.

We have visited Somerset Retirement Home and Assisted Living. What I liked about it, and what my mom liked about it, was everybody was very friendly, and the fact that there were a lot of different activities in the facility that fit my mom. When you walk into someplace and everybody is so friendly, it makes a huge difference. She also liked the fact that although the grounds were small, there was a lot there that she could enjoy, like the koi pond and gazebo. I told them what we were looking for and they took us right to it, but at the same time, they also showed us all of what was there. So that's really nice. You need to bring your own furniture, but they have a microwave and an apartment-sized refrigerator. The kitchenette was nice and had plenty of counter space, so that was very appealing. They have benches everywhere around the facility outside, and they have what they call their back porch that's got a porch swing. The dining room had these great big windows that looked out at the yard that they have. It's more like an upper-end restaurant, they have a salad bar, and they have plenty to offer in that regard. The air smells so good, and we didn't even think about that. The staff said to pull down our masks a bit and smell the air, and it was wonderful. So that was helpful for my mom. The facility was very clean and the layout is very simple to figure out.

My father is staying at the Somerset Retirement Apartments, and there is nothing wrong with it, but the rates are going up. We wanted to get an idea of what comparable rates were, if they were aligned there or what. We got the information that we needed, and it sounds like they are pretty much in line. He is getting the care that he needs, and he has settled in really well. We are not really planning on moving him. When you enter the building, it is very welcoming and warm. There is an area where the seniors can go sit and read the newspapers. It is a three-story building, and on each floor they have a common area. The second floor common area has a large screen TV and sitting room. They watch movies there; they have movies almost every night, and I think they advertise that. On the third floor they have a pool table, and it is more or less a gaming area. That is where my dad is; he is on the third floor. The room that he has is a one-bedroom apartment. They have studio and one- or two-bedroom apartments. He has a kitchen where he can do his own cooking, although he doesn't have a stove or anything like that. They can have a microwave, obviously. He had an issue with his door lock the other day, and they came and changed it out right away for him. The upkeep on the building looks pretty good to me. It is clean; it is not run-down or dilapidated. They have an activities director, and there are lots of things. They have Bingo, people come in and do singing, like old time country music, they have a couple of groups that do Bible studies with them there, and they also have outside activities, so he does a lot of extracurricular stuff. I have eaten their food, and it is very good. The staff that I have interacted with has been very, very patient with the residents. They are very helpful and friendly, always happy faces and smiling. Their nursing staff has always been very helpful with things if needed. The office staff has been very helpful, and the kitchen staff that I have interacted with has been very, very helpful with anything the residents need.
