Shuksan Healthcare Center was the first place we wanted to send my stepmom, but they didn't have an opening the day that she was released from the hospital, so she had to wait four or five days. She finally got in, and the place was fabulous. They had a therapy dog, a therapy cat, birds, and they had private rooms, which were all kind of painted different color schemes. I walked in the front door, and immediately the nurse at the front desk jumped up and then took me around. It was a lovely, lovely place. I won't say one-on-one service, but pretty close, and she really liked her therapy and nurses. There was one male nurse, in particular, that she was really fond of. He was just really helpful, just a very nice person. They have Bingo, a piano, and a little dining room, but you can eat in your room, and it was just a nice place. And, it wasn't crowded, wasn't noisy, and there were no crazy people screaming down the hallway or anything like that. Shuksan was excellent; it was great. She was there probably at least four weeks, and she was pretty happy. They have a big room down the hallway that was full of nothing but machines for lifting weights and all that kind of stuff for the physical therapy, and she spent at least an hour or more in there every day doing whatever it was they wanted her to do, physical therapy-wise, which was good.

My husband stayed in Shuksan Healthcare Center for almost about two months. I was happy to note that the smell associated with some nursing homes was not there. Instead of carpeting they have vinyl flooring. Another pleasant surprise was that they have a resident dog! He is soo nice and friendly and very well trained. Having the dog there made Shuksan such a homey place. The staff were friendly and helpful and when I was there visiting, they would feed me as well as my husband. Their food wasn't as bland as I expected it to be and most things were very tasty indeed. There was always two or three choices for the meals which was very nice. They also have entertainment and movie night and games and many fun activities for the residents who are up to venturing out of their rooms.
