With it’s warm, dry climate, lower-than-average cost of living and nearly a dozen city-run senior centers, El Paso is gaining popularity as an affordable retirement destination. Nearly 80,000 seniors over 65 live here, representing 12% of the total population of approximately 650,000. Sun Metro, the local public transit authority, offers steep discounts to seniors. Active seniors can join the 350+ athletes who participate in the El Paso Senior Games each spring, and there’s always something new to discover in the vibrant El Paso Downtown Arts District. This revitalized, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood next to the Southwest University Ballpark hosts over 150 open-air concerts, 21 symphony orchestra concerts and five Broadway productions annually.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
