I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is at Wexford House. When I last visited, the thing that struck me first was how clean the nursing home was compared to some I have seen. It was exceptionally clean. Daddy was clean, his hair had been washed and combed. This is a man who has very bad dementia. He was having hallucinations when I was there. His clothes were clean and there were no stains of food or anything like that on them. They also had him sitting up erect in the geri chair. He looked as good as he could. The only person I talked to was the receptionist and the social worker that day. I have talked to a nurse that told me what was going on that day on his chart and everything. They have kept me informed on how well he's eating and his general condition. They also called me the other day to tell me about an auxiliary person on the staff, not someone who interacted with any of the patients, had tested positive for COVID. They keep you informed on anything like this. They also told me he had a small bruise, where he had hit something. But that's not unusual. He's just knocking himself into things. He's not doing it as much now because he's not mobile anymore. My dad is almost 95-year-old who is in the late stages of Alzheimer's and there are certain things I expect. I'm not surprised he is no longer having violent spills, which was good, but they have kept me updated on things. I'm five hours away and I've only been in there twice now because of Covid and everything. There have been no visitors. I did not see his room. Because of COVID, they were keeping visitors in the lobby. They had a space set up in the lobby for visitors. I did see a room there three years ago when he was in rehab. I can say overall the place is very clean and this is something I notice a lot. He has always been clean, and the room was neat. At the time, he was mobile and there was nothing he could trip or fall over. I talk weekly to the social worker. I also talk to a nurse about every other week. The receptionist was very nice when I got there. I know that they get him up into the geri chair every day, so he doesn't lay in the bed.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My Mother has been a resident of The Wexford House in Kingsport for almost 3 years now. The staff for the most part are great!!! She maybe has had ONE UTI while there, which is commendable for a 95 year old bed ridden resident. I actually begged for Mom to be accepted there, I feel if she wasn't living there she wouldn't have had a chance where she was living (facility) for a few days. I couldn't recommend Wexford enough from the employees, to the cleanliness, to the care levels, I'm more than happy and I'm very confidant with them.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother stayed in The Wexford House for six weeks. I went there almost every day, and we basically fed her because they didn't really provide food nor offer any assistance. My mom wears diapers, and they very seldom changed those unless you went and asked them to. The food was terrible.

The staff is friendly. They seemed to keep her dry and moved. My biggest complaint is the female Dr. here. We constantly asked to have a meeting about our mother's health issues and she would not meet with us. Our mother was loosing the use of her arms. We continually ask what was causing it. It wasn't until she couldn't move at all that they finally sent her to the ER. ER found out our mom had spine injury. We feel this Dr should have taken better care of our mother.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My Father has been a resident for almost two months. He only went there to get therapy after his stroke, however they are not doing the therapy now, I have tried for almost a month to get him home. There are too many issues to put on here. I would definitely not recommend this facility to anyone! The staff have the illusion of caring, but actions speak louder than words, I'm usually an easy going person, but I have had way too many problems with the Wexford House. I recommend to any person looking for help, to try to get either home health, or private sitter services. I will never put any family member in a nursing home ever again, And its not just them, all nursing homes in our area are terrible! Ive spoke to tons of ppl and no one has had a nursing home that has actually done what they should.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I have a friend that has a family member at Wexford house on the 200 hall. The CNA's are wonderful and the med nurse's are great too but when my friend has an issue about her mom the unit manager of the floor listens but makes no hurry to resolve the issue which leads to more health issues including severe kidney infections which could have been taken care of with the first signs of an infection instead of letting it go untreated for weeks at a time. I would recommend this facility with excellent hands on workers but every time I visit I noticed the unit manager is always on a cell phone, eating or looking at magazines instead of putting the patients needs first. I would say before choosing this nursing home make visits and observations of all workers first.

I visited this facility

My nephew was there for a couple months. I think General care might have been ok, although he wasent checked on enough. What got me was the god forsaken smell of this place. Very strong urine smell. The elderly patience were left alone in wheelchairs sleeping. . When my nephew died they waited 2 hours to call the family then put his poor body back in the bed when they called the wrong funeral. Home. No dignity

I visited this facility

I went to several places. A couple of people I knew had loved ones in Wexford House so I decided to give it a try. My brother's been there for three weeks now. It's pretty close so it will be easy to visit him. It's very clean, everybody's friendly. My brother's in a room with a roommate. He gets three meals a day and he's well taken care of. He was unhappy because he had gone into a nursing room, but he seems to like the people around him. He likes his roommate. My brother is very handicapped and he does not speak up when he needs help and everything. It would be good for them to check on him more often.

I visited this facility

My grandmother was a long time resident of the Wexford House. Overall, the care was exceptional compared to other facilities that we evaluated. Most of the time she was clean and well fed. The staff was always courtesy. The biggest problem we noticed was a large turn over rate with the staff. There was one hall that did consistently smelled of urine though. However, I found this to be an issue at most facilities that I visited. The biggest problem we encountered was when my grandmother had an increase of urine infections. We discovered she was not being provided enough fluids from the facility. We addressed the problem with the facility they took immediate action; and rectified the problem. Upon her death bed, the staff was very courtesy and made her very comfortable. They were also extremely polite to the family and was very understanding of the fact that we stayed with her to the end. Generally, the place was clean, the residents are provided for except during staff shortages, etc. I would recommend this facility over many of the other local ones.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother has been a resident of Wexford House for 10 months. I have been so happy with her care. The staff is caring and treat their residents with so much love and care it is almost like they are family, as a matter of fact they treat most of them as family. I have never made a call for information or help regarding my mother that someone hasn't gotten back to me immediately. It is the cleanest nursing home, I have ever been in.It was the most difficult decision I have ever made to place my mother's care in someone else's hands, but I am at peace knowing they are providing better care of her than I am able to provide at home and I know that she is safe there. I would recommend Wexford House without reservation.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My Mom has been a resident for 9 months with many ups and downs throughtout her stay. The staff has always taken the time to talk with me and walk me through the changes. They treat Mom with respect and I commend them for the compassion and professionalism they exhibit. The job they have taken is very demanding and emotionally draining and I'm thankful they are helping all of us through such a difficult time. I suggest that anyone having a need for these sevices to go visit them, I'm glad I did.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My grandfather, Bobby Steele, was a patient and the Wexford house. The staff that works there is outstanding. They have a large and well maintained facility which has an outside area in the middle where the patients can go. My grandfather, and most the patients that i have seen, live with a roommate while they are there. My grandfathers roommate was rehabilitated and able to go home August the 27th. The facility has physical therapy for the patients that need it 3 times a day and my grandfather loves the job they do. They have gospel music and visitors there frequently and the staff really care about their job. My grandfather gets bathed every other day and is always clean when we visit him which is every day. I would recommend the Wexford house to anyone in the area looking for a nursing home or rehabilitation center for themselves or family member.
