My dad was a resident of this nursing home. I was very impressed with the staff, nurses, volunteers and over all looks of this place. I was always treated with respect as were those who lived there. It was very clean and did not smell like some of the homes out there. My dad was a resident until his passing. If I need to go into a nursing home this would be the one I would go to.

About Gino J Merli Veterans Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania
The Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, named after a World War II hero and Medal of Honor recipient, is located in downtown Scranton, PA. Statues near the facility's entrance represent the five branches of the armed forces. Nearby is the Carol Ann Drazba Memorial, recognizing one of the eight nurses killed in the Vietnam War.
The Gino J. Merli Veterans Center is a 196-bed facility that offers skilled nursing care and memory care. Staff members provide the necessary support for veterans to lead active, healthy, and independent lives to the greatest extent possible. Levels of care are tailored to the health needs of each resident, with services including the following:
- Medical, clinical, and nursing services
- Drug and nutritional therapy
- Physical, occupational, and recreational therapy
- Dental services
- Social services
Each furnished room allows veterans to personalize their space with military treasures, family photos, and other keepsakes. Residents plan and execute the center's programs and activities, which include bingo, birthday celebrations, and outings to professional sports games. Seniors can get fresh air while enjoying the sunshine from the covered pavilion in the courtyard, and horticulture-inclined residents can plant flowers and vegetables in the victory garden. The facility also hosts an onsite chapel, a barbershop, a beautician, and a snack shop.

The facility itself is very clean and seems accommodating. My grandmother lived here for many years, and every time I visited, the staff was extremely friendly toward me and my family. My father and aunt both had good experiences in arranging to take my grandmother out for either holidays or just overnight stays in general. The nurses sometimes took a while to get to the room when we needed hep getting her in and out of bed and into a wheelchair, but that may be due to other residents having more urgent needs. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience with the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center.
