What you can do with Caring
About The Villa St. Elizabeth in Reading, Pennsylvania
Senior living at the Villa is a setting for people who will benefit from assistance with activities of daily living and socialization opportunities. Our setting allows residents to retain maximum independence by having the help that they need to meet a variety of health concerns. We create individualized service plans to help with mobility, balance and keeping abreast of current events. The majestic Victorian mansion elegantly reflects the grandeur of earlier times when the textile baron, Gustav Oberlander, entertained heads of state and visiting dignitaries from overseas. The rich European craftsmanship is evident throughout the flowing library, ballroom and formal dining rooms. The popular back patio fills the senses with a panoramic view of the manicured acreage framed by the exotic trees imported from around the country. This pastoral setting is home to the holiday barbecues for the residents and their families, as well as special events as weddings, concerts on the green and artists' festivals. Jean Bready, RN is the owner and administrator of the Villa since 2000. As a Reading native and graduate of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, she has committed herself, her staff and the lovely property to providing a warm and loving home for the residents of the Villa - her extended family. To learn more about this providers license and review other available state reports, please visit: Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Provider Directory

My mother-in-law was at The Villa St. Elizabeth for a little under three weeks. It was lovely and clean. The staff took good care of her. The meals were great. She said they were delicious. Her room was lovely, had a gorgeous window view, and was nice and large. They put new rugs in it and a brand-new TV. The bathroom was private and clean all the time.

Ramp at one end of the dining room can make access difficult depending on you abilities to walk. Quality and variety of food leaves a lot to be desired. Very minimal staff. No activities director. Residents pretty much on their own. Most of their time is spent sitting in their rooms watching tv. It's cheap, but corners are cut everywhere at the expense of the residents. Looks nice from the outside and inside, but don't judge a book by its cover. It appears the owners are more interested in financial gain than the well being, comfort, and dignity of the residents. Owners are difficult to get a hold of and phone calls are not returned.

My mother was at Villa St. Elizabeth. They need to improve on things at that facility. It's a beautiful old mansion, so the rooms were beautiful, and the view was beautiful and very unique. The staff was kind, but I was not impressed with the service. The food that she received was not very good. Meals were served at certain times at the tables, and residents had to sit with certain people, and sometimes she couldn't even eat the food. They should improve their kitchen and preparation for the elderly.

The Villa is an historic mansion set up wonderfully as a personal care home, definitely homey, not institutional. The staff is caring and professional. The food is home-style with many regional favorites. The owners are very responsible and take pride in both the business and the historic building. I would live there in a heart beat!

My wife and I visited St. Elizabeth's on several occasions. At least two were unannounced and we found no smells and the residents seemed to be enjoying the library and the beautiful porch that over looks sever hundred yards of well kept landscaped property.

There's a number of things that were in our consideration why we chose the facility. Location to us and proximity was important. We're building a home and that was only 15 miles away, so proximity was probably a primary. Also just as important of course was her comfortableness with the place. The way in which the people treated her prior to arrival. The staff were forthcoming and professional. They were providing any kind of detail we needed. Since they were used to receiving people from the local area, they would send a team of people to ones homes and pickup their belongings. You actually pay for the cost of moving them right into the building. And since we were out of town, they offered to reimburse us up to $1100 for the moving expenses. All we need is to present the receipt. They were such a blessing! It was something we were not expecting.Absolutely grandmom will be happy there. It's a friendly place. It had apartments that were larger than others once that you've seen other places. It was nice brief, easy get to and very pleasant looking. There is an atrium that was quite large and a waterfalls to help people with the mood. It was rather a large place so you're not confined to a small group of people and it was a nice thing for grandmom to make friends especially people within her age bracket. There were a great number of activities taking place. She likes to play cards and different card games and so there was a scheduled tournament of such for it. She was able to look at different rooms were residents were actually in them, so they weren't empty. There was furniture in it and it was comfortable living there. They also have an actual beauty facility. Well you pay for it but that's fine because she was used to paying for her hair.It was also important that she had an individual assigned to her as an extra service to help her in getting to the dining area, come down the stairs or other issues. What I also like was that everybody is provided with like a lifeline device that they wear around their neck. So all of these things really proved to her (and us) that the place was experienced, kind and responsive and that just went up to her over the top.

My mom is a redident in this facility, and I would highly recommend it to anyone in search of a very caring staff, and administrators, beautiful world charm atmosphere, and lovely place for their retirement yrs. I could not have chosen a better home for her if I searched everywhere! Whoever is commenting on smells needs to get their senses tested!

The smell upon entering your facility was very undesirable and I think you know what odor I'm speaking of. This problem really needs to be addressed. I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice.
