The scenic city of Eugene is situated in the lush Willamette Valley between the Oregon coast and majestic Cascade Mountains. Home to the University of Oregon, Eugene is lined with bicycle trails and populated with charming farmer’s markets, art venues, museums and galleries. Of a population of 156,000 people, seniors make up almost 15% of Eugene residents. For older adults, the city offers activities at three community centers. Eugene enjoys a comfortable year-round climate, though it does receive a small amount of snow during the winter and lots of rain all year long. Residents still get plenty of outdoor activity thanks to Eugene’s many green spaces including Hendricks Park that’s famous in the Pacific Northwest for its rhododendron gardens.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
