We are working with BrightStar Care Lane County for my mother’s in-home care. The agency is good. We tried to match someone with her, and it took a third person to come to be a good match. Actually, the second one who came would have worked fine, as she was very capable, but she was just a little too quiet. (My mom has some cognitive issues, so she needs someone who is going to talk to her and be really outgoing.) The woman who we have now, Caitlyn, works really well because she’s that kind of person. (There is nothing wrong with the last one who came, she just did not match with what we needed for my mom.) Caitlyn is outgoing, capable, a go-getter, and she always takes care of things that need to be done. We are happy with her, so far. One of the reasons we chose her, too, was because her hours work well with the hours we wanted. We wanted a person who was also consistent with my mom and she’s that. We got a companion care service for my mom, which means they don’t do bathing or anything like that, but my mother is still capable of doing that. The caregiver just cleans, and since my mom has a cat she also takes care of it. She helps with the laundry and cooks for her. She does a little bit of everything except taking care of medical stuff and bathing.

Primarily, they are there on the weekend. My wife and I work out of home and this has allowed us to continue instead of caring for my mom.
We’ve been extremely happy with the company.

My in-laws are using Visiting Angels of Eugene & Springfield. They provide bathing, routine help, they’re doing laundry, cooking, and preparing meals. We opted out of medication administration at this time because of an additional $300 monthly fee. The caregivers have been relatively good. Right now we have them seven hours a day. For the time that they’re there, they’ve been very helpful.

Having an outside caregiver is new for us. I’m delighted with Comfort Care services. Donna, the local provider, visited twice (for free). She’s warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental. Then she visited again, with the caregiver, Leah, and together they interacted with my wife, with Donna leaving after awhile. I appreciated Donn’s extra effort to be sure my wife and the Leah had bonded. Leah now visits 3 times/week for 2 hours, with increased hours projected in the future. I leave. She’s calm and friendly, and does minor cleaning so as to not seem just to be a caregiver. She has already managed to help my wife to take a shower, which has been a problem behavior for me. My wife likes her.

We have had Granny Nannies for two years. We like them. We chose them because they could work two hours instead of four, and they’re willing to work with us with the hours that we needed. They have always been on time. If they’re not on time, they would give us a call and let me know what’s going on. The woman that comes out cooks dinner and does light housekeeping. She is very good with my father. She pays a lot of attention. She gives him a back rub and a neck rub every time she’s there. Work ethic has been fine. This woman is from Haiti, and she is very caring. Accent is difficult to understand, but we communicate. The agency’s management in terms of scheduling and billing is very good. We pay the caregiver directly, but we also pay the agency because they do all the paperwork. Also every once and a while, they would call and check to make sure she’s doing a good job.

Eugene Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place.
