"Home Instead stepped up to help us on very short notice with my 98 year old mother and 71 year old brother living together in Portland to fill in for one of our two regular care givers who had emergency surgery leaving us without coverage for their 1/2 day weekend shift. Both have dementia, the son has incontinence and we live in California. Given only 4 days to set it up, Home Instead was responsive to arrange for an in-home interview, assess their needs, complete the paper work and schedule someone to prepare meals, change laundry and dispense multiple meds. At first it was to be only for two week end shifts, but on Wednesday before July 4 - the our regular care giver was still unavailable. So, on short notice, Home Instead got us help. It had to be a different person, but just as before, Home Instead sent Jessica the Care Coordinator to introduce the caregiver and show him the ropes. The quality of care was very good. The care givers were friendly and helpful. We rested easy knowing the "Emergency" was taken care of. Although we are out of state, the process was easy and supported by excellent and helpful communication.
