My husband stayed at BrookHaven Retirement Community. I thought they were understaffed. They didn't have enough aides, and the nurse had a big group of people that she had to deal with. She had to deal with the memory care and the whole assisted living. I wasn't very pleased with them. They didn't have a lot of consistency. They had a couple of very good aides, but then they had a number of them who weren't that good. There were a number of them who were there very short-term, and we didn't get to interact that much. The room was for one person. It was a decent size. The shower was not very good. Daily, there was very little activity. They didn't go out to shop at all. They had a courtyard they could go out into, but that happened very rarely. There wasn't much to do.

My mother has moved to Brookhaven Retirement Community. It's a wonderful place, and it has been very good. The place is very neat and very cheerful. The people are very nice and pleasant. My mother is very happy there. The upkeep is very good. The size of the room is very large. It's quite roomy and very clean. There are activities that she engages in with the other residents like bingo, Bible lessons, and things of that sort. She doesn't complain about any of the food at all. The staff is very friendly, very kind, and very gentle. It's a wonderful place.

Brookhaven Retirement Community has a nursing home, assisted living, they have independent living and they have cottages. So they have a little bit of everything. The staff members are very caring. If you take a question to them or a concern to them, they're right there, and if they can't get the answer for you, the doctor is calling you within minutes. The nursing facility had semi-private and private rooms. With semi-private, they will share a restroom but they each have their own room. You walk in one door and then there's a wall right there. You can go in and if you go to the left, you go into one room and to the right, it's a separate room. The layout is nice because they have little trails that they could go on. It's a beautiful country setting. The food is not bad, they have a catering service as well. I've tried it because my dad's not eating a lot right now, and I tasted it to make sure that it's not the food. And it's not the food because the food is edible. They say that they take them to casinos, depending on the things they can do, but at least they take them out rides so they're not stuck in there, they take them shopping. They do a lot of activities and they have something for everybody in each department.

This facility is severely understaffed. It is very difficult to find a nurse, or aide if needed. The assisted living menus that are posted are not always the food that is served. The patients are sent to meals well in advance of meal time, then the meals come out a few at a time. often cold. The kitchenettes in the rooms are inadequate.

Brookhaven Retirement Community has everything from independent cottages to nursing care. My mother was there for three months and she had continually tried to leave the facility and on one occasion was successful. She got outside with no supervision or anything. She followed me out and I was very upset. It was a lovely facility and they had just remodeled. A lot of care and attention was put into the setting, but the staff was poor. We were there at least once or twice a week or more, and 75% of the time, we never encountered one person going to her room, and this was during different hours of the day. There were no aides or nurse. When you wanted to find somebody to ask a question, it was difficult to hunt somebody down. They were severely understaffed and only a few staff members were very attentive. She seemed to enjoy the food there.

My mother used to be a resident of Brookhaven Nursing Center, and I wasn't impressed with their meals. Of course they had juice, milk, and coffee, but the main meal was just composed of a soup and a sandwich, or just a waffle. They're extremely understaffed. They had 40 patients for one activity director, two aides, and a nurse. The place itself is really beautiful. They have huge atriums, huge parlors, and all the things that none of the locked up Alzheimer's ward patients have, but all the patients seem to be sleeping all the time, which is concerning. They sit them in a chair and turn on the TV and the patients go to sleep. My mother had a double room. It was very small for two people, but still it was OK and clean.

They did not give my father his meds for his liver for three days. Called my brother and saod he needs to go to the ER they didn't call because they didn't want the responsibility. My dad's ammonia levels got so high he has brain damage. They would not accept the prescription we picked up said they had to get the prescription from theor pharmacy in cincinatti. They put on a show with a nice lake and rooms over looking a pond. Charge a fortune now my dad's in worse shape. He was here for outpatient physical therapy a ten day session. They called us to come up their and call the swad if they had called at the first signs of high ammonia because they didn't give his meds this wouldn't have happened.

Brookhaven Retirement Community was fine, clean, nice, and had a good reputation in a country setting. The downside was that because my mother-in-law would have been in long-term care, she would have been in a double, shared room. It was more nursing-home-style but very clean and very nice. The dining area was clean and nice; I did not sample the food. Brookhaven’s location was a bit of a drive, but it was in the beautiful country with a lake and a fountain.

My 62 yr old brother has cerebral palsy and could no longer live with our parents. He moved to Brookhaven one month ago. We are extremely pleased with that decision. He is adjusting well and I attribute that to the caring nurses and aides that tend to his daily needs. I have never witnessed such caring people. They work very hard to help him integrate into the community. In addition the facility is very clean which was very important to me, my mother and of course my brother. As for the food I am told they are hiring a new chef so hopefully that will resolve itself. Finally in response to the dog comment the dog does not live there. He is brought in by his owner to visit the residents. Sweet well behaved dog.

We chose this facility based on its past reputation and the promises made by the salesperson. After moving we heard that it had recently changed ownership. While the facility is still very nice, there seems to be a drive to cut all costs lower and lower. The food quality and quantity is horrible. They brought in an untrained, undisciplined pup to live with the residents. We saw it jumping up on residents and have found scars on our parent that seem to be from it. Our parent's heath has declined significantly since moving there. We are at a loss to know what to do now. It is so sad to see this once great community turn into this.

We chose Brookhaven Nursing Center because it is what my mom liked. Everything seems fine. It is about the nicest nursing home I have ever seen. I have had some of their food -- their food is OK. They take them on trips occasionally, they have Bingo in there and things like that.

We chose BrookHaven for my dad because of its location. The staff is very good and very helpful. They have different things to offer to the residents. They take them to shopping, to doctor's appointments, and they have all kinds of activities there. They also have card games. The food is very good. I would recommend this place to anybody.

The one that my parents really liked the most was Brookhaven Retirement Community. They had a villa or a cottage with a garage and two bedrooms, which my parents liked a lot. Most places that we had looked at charged $500 for the extra person, this one only charged $50. I knew they offered apartments, but we weren't able to see them and I thought they would like to go back again, so they could see those. My parents are independent now, but they would want to have that graduated care as they need it.
