The Best Nursing Home Communities in Grant County, WI

"This is a skilled nursing facility in Iowa County, about 50-55 minutes southwest of Madison. It's an older, one-story brick building, and well located in Mineral Point, about two blocks from the main street. They have a few positive things going for them, including good community involvement (one nice thing they do is invite the whole town to an ice cream social each year) and a good activities program. But overall, they're really struggling. They've had quite a bit of staff turnover--and they had a poor recent state survey, with 29 deficiencies. (The average is 8.) "

"I had a grandparent stay at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home for approximately 8 months before she passed away of natural causes. Upon the many visits I made to this facility, I noticed that the staff kept the common areas and rooms pretty tidy. In addition to this, the staff was always cordial to visitors and as accommodating as they could be with residents without jeopardizing their safety. The nurse who helped my grandma with her walking therapy was particularly kind and gentle. Residents who stay at this facility are allowed to have an account where they can buy items at the nursing home store or pay to get their hair done, if they so choose. Visitors who have family at the facility are also allowed to join their resident family member for meals if they wish. The eating hall is conveniently located right past the main entrance and before the general sitting area. "

"My mother is in Riverdale Health Care Center. We've been visiting her once or twice a week. They are all very kind and very helpful to the people that are living there. They don't make fun of them or anything. They are very nice to the patients. Sometimes you go to a place and they get so disgusted with these old people, but not at this place. They're all very kind to the old people at this place. The meals are very good. They know their patients and they know what they can eat and that's what they give them. The food is good and they fix it as the people need it. They have bingo twice a week. They have outings, but not during COVID. They have taken the people to a park, but now with COVID, they've only been doing bingo. The facilities are very good, but they're not very modern. It's an older building, but it's very well kept up. They only charge what you need."

"This is a skilled nursing facility that's connected to the hospital in Dodgeville. The staff and management team have been there a long time, and they do a good job. In the most recent state survey, they had only 5 deficiencies (the state average is 8). The facility itself was built in 2002, I think, and was designed to feel like four small households under one roof. There are 44 beds in all. One section is set up just for rehab, which is nice, since everyone in that ""household"" shares the same goal of getting better and returning home. They also have a skywalk that connects the nursing home to the hospital. It looks like ""Main Street."" It has a barber shop and other shops and has a very homey feel. The food is very good, and they have a good activities program, with lots of community involvement. The only downsides are that there's no memory unit, and they're often full--so it's hard to get in. "

"My sister was in a nursing home, Stonehill Care Center. We were over there every day. My sister was a very picky eater, and so they would make her the food she liked. Everybody on the staff was always very friendly. The facility was very nice and always very clean. The care and services were excellent. The staff there were caring. They really did their best, because I know that they weren't always fully staffed. My sister had to go to dialysis, so we didn't really use their activities at all. My sister's insurance pretty much covered it all. There was a beauty shop there, but my sister never used it. They also had a chaplain service and that was good. They had mass there once a week. My sister would go to their outside area all the time. There was a garden patio with chickens, and you could bring your dog up to visit. My sister had a dog, and her friend would bring her dog up."

"My mom likes the people at Sunnycrest Manor. I was happy that they took her in because I wanted her home. She knows some of the people up there and they're nice. They're reconstructing right now so everything's off the walls. They're doing construction right next to the room she's in, so it's loud, but I know it's going to be very nice when they get it done. I think they treat her well. I like the place. They have some drawbacks, but I feel the people are good there. They take them on activities outside of the place, not just on the site. Once when I was there, they were loading them up on a bus to see a play outside. They also play bingo, ad card games, and have a cooking class. I think they have a lot of activities. They even have somebody come in every month and sing during a family night in their community area where the family and the resident can sit down and listen to music. Recently, they had some guy who came in and sang Elvis songs."

"My brother is at Bethany Home and we chose it for him because the service is excellent. The staff is also caring and does their job. His room is very adequate. The maintenance is excellent, too."

"I have known and visited a few residents who have lived here, and have referred multiple people to Dubuque Specialty Care. I am in healthcare myself, so like to think that I pay attention to detail. The building is clean, beautifully decorated, and doesn’t smell like other nursing homes. Staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. They have been under new management for a while now, and are one of the only 5 star facilities in the area. It’s a wonderful place to consider for short or long term stays. Rooms are private or semi private, food is good, I’ve seen them play bingo and have lots of exercise activities."

"This is a skilled nursing facility that has a long history of excellent care but has had a hard time of it the past few years due to turnover. Both their director of nursing and administrator were replaced in the last year--and the recent state survey found 22 deficiencies compared to an average of 8 across the state. They also recently closed their memory care unit and made that wing into a rehab unit. I'm hoping the new management fixes things and that they're able to turn things around. It's owned and run by Lafayette County, and both the food and activities programs are good. The building itself is in need of help. It's an old, 3-story building, and the rooms are okay--nothing special. It's in a good location within Darlington: a few blocks from the main street, near the hospital. "

"I toured. The staff seemed very professional. The rooms are nice and spacious. The facility was nice and clean. The reason my brother liked it was because the nursing home is close by. It would be an easy transition because he expects to decline because he has cancer, but he doesn't know the timing of all that."

"My sister is in Ennoble Nursing and Rehab, and she is not happy there. They haven't had the virus yet, so I think she is safe where she is. She has been there since March, but I haven't been there. She has been quarantined ever since she has been in there. I talked to the nurses, and they're very accommodating. My sister is not happy there, so that gives me a skewed view of it, but I think they are taking very good care of her. She doesn't think so and she is angry, but I can't do much about it. When I speak to her, I have to unplug my phone because I get up to eight or nine calls sometimes and I cannot handle that. I unplug except for maybe an hour or two. Maybe I'll talk to her once a day and then I unplug it. I was hoping that there would be somebody in there who can talk to her and give her some sense of caring and belonging. However, she rejects just about everything they offer her. I've talked to them and they were very helpful. They actually recommended another place for her because they knew people there, so I would give them a good rating for that. They're being open-minded anyway. They helped me too because they tell me, "You don't have to answer the phone all the time." They have been very helpful. My sister thinks the food is good, and she has actually gained quite a bit of weight since she has been there. We had a meal there the day we took her in, and it was very good. Her room is small, and it's got the basics. It has a room for a bed and a chair beside her bed. The building is getting old, and they could use more common areas for gathering or relaxing. As far as I know, they don't have a whole lot. That part I think could use some improving, but it means a big project. I have talked to the social worker, and she was very helpful. I could not have done this. I'm older than my sister, so this causes a little bit of anxiety in trying to deal with ins and outs and ups and downs even the financing part, but they have been very helpful."

"This is my third visit here for therapies. Staff is very tolerant and work with me to help me get what I want and need. Good food and when I push my button they come to help right away. Staff follows all safety procedures to keep me safe. When I am negative they help me accomplish what I need to get done. I would recommend manorcare to anyone to anyone"
