My brother is at Bethany Home and we chose it for him because the service is excellent. The staff is also caring and does their job. His room is very adequate. The maintenance is excellent, too.

I like Bethany Homes because, first of all, it's 5-star rating. It's very clean, the personnel were very inviting, and they have a better staff to residents ratio. I like their 1-bedroom, it's spacious and clean. Another thing I liked about it is that they have a locked area for dementia patients. They have a screened-in porch out front where the residents can go and sit. And then in the back, off of the memory care unit, they have a solarium with some sunroof, where they can sit in there and there's TV. It's decorated real pretty, with nice pictures, a lot of flowers, and social furniture. And there are other doors where you can go outside from there, and then there's an outside area that has a garden. And they have the patients or the residents help take care of the garden if they want to. They showed us menus and what they had for snacks. The day that we were there, there was a gentleman walking through the memory care unit and one of the staff asked him if he wanted some ice cream. He turned around and looked surprised , he goes "Ice cream? Sure." But they have a lot of fruit juices, they could have malt shakes, just a lot of things like that that were very appetizing to the residents. They have two choices of entrees, and their big meal is the noon meal. And they get side dishes along with that, and they can make out their own menu. They give them a menu and then they can choose from that menu what they want.

Bethany Home had apartments for independent living and assisted living. It was very nice and comparable to the others. However, it was fairly far over on the north end, away from everything, but it was a lovely facility. The new apartments built within the last five years were very nice, and the older ones were renovated and kept up when needed. It was one the most popular places.

We’ve moved my mom into Bethany Home in Dubuque. They’re very friendly, very committed to the patients, and very easy to work it. It’s a very nice place with good food. Their patients sit with four to six people at a table and get the choice of a small salad bar and two different main dishes. I am probably most impressed by the friendliness of the people, both the people who live there and the staff.
