"My mother is in Mechanicsville Specialty Care. Its been very good. My mother is much better now and shes doing well. They take her out to eat, they play bingo, and she enjoys it. They do all kinds of things with her. I had one meal there and it was OK. She gets plenty of food, and shes gaining weight again."

"My mother was at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon for a couple of months. It's a beautiful place and has nice scenery. The food was excellent. But how the place is being run is very, very cold. It was hard to get help there because people were changing so much, but they had some very nice aides there. I was there about every day and somehow that concerned them. So, it bothered me that just because I was coming there a lot, they got upset about that and they were kind of intimidated by it. That situation kind of started to wear on me. I found some places to transfer my mom to and they sabotaged that. They lied to them and said that I was doing things, and they gave them my wrong phone number so they couldn't call me. The administration should be more accessible to people and be more considerate. We had dealings with the head nurse, which was not good because she was under the thumb of the administration. Mom did not get help from her at all. I did not feel that she was caring. They had bingo, but very few people came out to it. They took some residents out for walks. They had a beauty parlor, a fountain, and a little tiny garden, but nobody was ever out there. One of our contentions was that we were just given a bill and we were not told what it was for, we just had to pay it."

"My mom is in the nursing facility at Wilton Retirement Community. It is close to Muscatine and the staff there have been very helpful. Mom just loves interacting with all of them. Right now, she's in a semi-private room which is neat. When you walk in the door off of the corridor, the room splits. One lady has the side on the right, and my mom has the side on the left. The bathroom is right in between the two of them in the room. There were some parts in the other nursing homes I visited, well, they were actually in the assisted living section, that I think would be good. All the staff that I have interacted with have been very knowledgeable. Mom needs somebody strong and not going to simply listen to her saying "I don't want to do that," but they do it in a nice way to where she doesn't have a problem with them telling her what to do. They are very patient with her. I've looked at their calendar, and I know there are at least three things going on during the day. These activities typically include bingo or games, crafts, music, and most days, exercise time with all the residents."

"Both of my parents received outstanding care at Crestview Specialty Care! The team of caregivers gave compassionate, individualized care to both of them on separate occasions more than 5 years apart. The food was nutritious, the facility was very clean, the activities were thought provoking and most importantly, the people were kind and helpful. Any questions we had were answered quickly and competently. We would highly recommend this care center."

"My husband is at Solon Nursing Care Center. He is diabetic, and so they call whenever his insulin level goes up or down, or they have to change his dosage. In terms of its physical appearance, I never smell anything bad when you walk in the door. It doesn't smell like a nursing home. The upkeep is pretty good. They have some exercise equipment. There's a courtyard, and there are chairs and things out there. The care is really good. My husband is happy there. He doesn't make a fuss about coming home. He is very content just to be there. The staff members are very good. We have meetings about every two months or something to go over how he is doing and things. The staff members are friendly. They call the patients by name. My husband says the food is OK."

"My father had a much better time in the hospital than in assisted living. In the assisted living center, they came and worked with him only a few hours each day, whereas in the hospital, they worked with him the majority of the day. Also, in the facility, there would be patients out walking the hallways in the middle of the night yelling at the top of their lungs, making it very hard to sleep. Overall, I would never use this assisted living facility in the future. "

"Pennington Square was a lovely place. The apartments were very nice with one bedroom, a living room, a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, and a private bathroom with a shower. It's all one level and they have lots of activities. The place was very clean and very nicely decorated. They have a nice outdoor space with a gazebo. Some staff members have been there for years and they have lots of volunteer. The food was great, too."

"My friend fell out of a wheel chair this morning and NOTHING was done about it!!!! The beds have NO railings for safety. It’s nasty dirty there. I believe the local health department and the Ombudsman needs to be called. This is AWFUL!!!!!!"

"Staff is kind to my friend, and has been keeping his spirits up ever since visits got limited for COVID. The food is good and the people who work there are nice. The rooms are bright, with big windows. Activities are always going on, mostly games and music. "My dad spent three weeks in the Mercy Hospital stroke recovery while he was still in there. It was just a rehab facility, and it was all right. Most of the staff that worked there actually lived in our community, so we knew them personally. "

"I like everything about Accura HealthCare of Cascade. Everybody has been so helpful in answering questions. Mom has 12 children and we're all spread out, and they are so open that anybody can call anytime to get information about her. We've all been invited over to have a sit-down meeting once a month so that they could give updates in the care of mom. So, it's just been nice. The staff is knowledgeable and caring. They are kind people helping us out with her and she's talked to us on the phone several times. They are more than happy to talk to us when we call or go by. They answer questions and do anything that they thought mom needed. They have activities like bowling and games, and they just had a big Cinco de Mayo party. Somebody also brought May baskets to all the rooms for May day. So, they do a lot of things and they're going above and beyond."

"I want to thank Windmill Manor for caring for my husband the last two years. He had Louie bodies dementia and was in Garden Court. Their staff is amazing and became our family. I know at times he was more than a handful but they were always kind & patient with him. I stayed with him 24/7 the last couple weeks of his life as I couldn’t leave his side we had been together 59 yrs. they made sure I was comfortable and supported me at this very difficult time both fiscally and mentality.words cannot describe my gratitude and appreciation of the love I felt from all staff members from administrators, his doctor, CNA’s nurses, cooks, cleaning, laundry and maintenance, you are all my family! You will always be in my heart. Thank You! "

"My dad was in Linn Manor Care Center for rehab. I thought they were good. They worked with Dad really well. Dad said that he liked it there. I could not go inside the building for a visit because of the COVID, but they did call me with updates on Dad, and how he was doing. I could visit but only at his window, and that was for the first 14 days that he was there. Once he was out of quarantine, we could visit outside on the front patio, but we have to do the distance, and wear a mask. I believe his room was a shared room, but he was the only one in that room at that time. They did have other activities for the residents there. The staff were good; they were great with Dad."

"Wheatland Manor seems nice. The staff seems very competent and cheerful, and are taking good care of people. We were able to visit my father just through a screen. They opened up a window in the dining room, and we sat outside that window and talked to him. Everybody had a mask on. I have not been able to visit him inside. The communication is very good. He said the food is not always his taste."

"My sister went to Briarwood Health Care Center. They can do medication and do the rehabilitation. It is an older facility, but it's well kept up and it's bright. The walls are painted. Nothing's falling apart. The rooms are kind of institutional, but that's fine. The staff is very good to my sister. They're helpful and outgoing. They talk to her, so that's good. I know that they have a happy hour, a card club, and arts and crafts. I've not had the food myself. It can be institutional style, but it does have flavor and it's a varying menu. If there's something that you do not like on the menu, you have options other than getting what they have that day. Instead of having a hamburger, you can have a salad. The staff is always helpful, always congenial, and cordial, and they talk a lot with her."
