"My mother is currently in skilled nursing at St. Barnabas, and she is number one on the waiting list for a bed in the memory care unit. I am not crazy about the skilled nursing, but she's got to stay there because of her Alzheimer's. Every move she makes has a traumatic effect on her. She fell and broke her hips, so she had to have a hip replacement and stay in the hospital for just 4 days, but it was unbelievable what it did to her. And then she sprained her back in the skilled nursing, so I brought her back to the skilled nursing in the same place where she was living. I didn't want to put her in a facility where she doesn't know anybody all over again, and that is why I did skilled nursing. Their staff is very attentive and works with them regardless of what their needs are. My father was very bad towards the end before he passed, and they were actually great with him, very sympathetic, and they took care of him. "

"I think the facility seems very nice. They have a "bar" area where they have lockers to store personal items. They can play cards in that room when they like. Everyday they have a dinner buffet, which I have eaten. It is quite good. All the staff have seemed very friendly. My grandma's apartment is very nice (does not seem like a nursing home except that she has emergency pull cords everywhere). The grounds are really pretty and everyone in the apartments have their own yards. "

" I think this place was marvelous. I had never been in rehab before. I am 78 years old. I also was here during COVID-19. This means that everyone had their own private room but no visitors. I thought the nurses were excellent. I thought the nurses’ assistants were excellent. I do agree that both Kasie the nurse and Stephen the nurses’ aide are exceptional. I thought that the food was wonderful! Both my physical therapist and occupational therapist were also top-notch. I had broken my leg when I arrived. They were very accommodating while I was in much pain. Yet, they were wise enough to let me become more independent as I gained more use of my leg. I would also like to note that when I got home I was excellently prepared for the stairs and different activities that I was required to master. Lastly, I simply have great respect for their positive atmosphere. I never heard a patient, a nurse, a nurse’s aide, PT, OT or any other professional talk derogatory about anyone else there."

"I've got my mom into North Hills. It is a small facility, and the care is very personal. It is located just north of the city in Wexford, PA, so scenic-wise it is very pretty. There are woods around there, and the grounds are very nice. Like I said, the care is very personalized. They do a lot of activities with them. During the warm days, they would take them outside and do activities with them. They take care of all of her needs. Even the physicians that she sees or different specialists make arrangements for her and provide transportation, so it is very comprehensive. They really take care of everything, and we are very pleased. "

I am especially impressed with a nurse named Rebecca she has gone out of her way on numerous occasions for my grandmother and all of our family members. "Quality Life Services had physical therapy and a lot of things that worked for me and enabled me to do things more on my own than I was before. They're very expensive, but they had good, quality work. We were crowded. They were putting more people in rooms that were made for two people. The people who worked for them were very good, but overworked and probably underpaid. The food was OK. Certain meals were good quality and certain meals were underrated and not that great. There were things that should've been done, but they could not do that because they didn't either have the time or the capabilities to do them. It was not a question of how bad they might have been, but rather how good they were with what they had. They made the rooms as attractive as they could. They had movies in a big open area until the coronavirus messed things up, and they had to narrow down the number of people in one space. It's a pretty facility, and they were adding on. They had construction of another wing going on, on the other side of the courtyard. They tried to make a variety of food preparations and sometimes they succeeded and sometimes they didn't. They offered physical therapy there, and they had a lady come in that would do your hair."

"Cheswick Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, LLC is OK, but I don't see a lot going on there for the residents. I would hate to think of myself as having to live there. It's just not acceptable to me as far as the atmosphere. My sister is in skilled nursing there. She had a stroke and she's wheelchair-bound. Her whole dominant side is paralyzed. The facility looks fine. The staff is really good. They take good care of her physically, but as far as anything to do, it's boring and depressing. Every time I go to visit, she takes one bite of her meal and leaves the rest, and makes faces like it's not too good. It is very clean. They only have one elevator though, which bothers me because she's on the third floor and she's in a wheelchair. If there was a fire, how are they going to get everybody from the third floor and the second floor out with one elevator? That concerned me. With one elevator in the whole place and if it's out of service, they're stuck. I didn't like that at all. If you can do the steps, that's fine, but if you're in a wheelchair or have mobility problems, you're gonna die. The rest of it is fine. They have one big dayroom as soon as you go in with TVs and all. They also have a TV in their room. They had a few activities. I've been there once on the holidays when they had Christmas carols and a guy playing the guitar and playing Christmas carols, but I don't think there's much to do."

"My experience with Concordia of Wexford is very pleasant, and they worked well with me. Their staff is wonderful, informative, helpful, and very nice to my mother. They look out for her. Their rooms were very old, and my mom shares a room with another patient. It?s very accessible, and the grounds are very pretty. They do activities, games, and movies. My mother is 86, and she is very active now. "

"I went to Sugar Creek Rest to visit my grandma. The staff and all the services were excellent, and they had different activities for all the residents to participate in, and they were very attentive to her. They would take the residents on local bus trips where they had to sign up to go, and to their doctors appointments, or different hospitals. They also did puzzles, different crafts every week, like they make things out of little popsicle sticks, and coloring. They had a beauty salon, a chapel, a library, a snack store, a family room with different TVs, and fireplaces that you could sit in front of. It was very comfortable and welcoming. It felt like you were at home. They just renovated it last year or two years ago as well. The food was average though. They would offer her soups, different pastas, sandwiches, desserts, and my grandmother was a diabetic, so she had dietary restrictions, but they do have that. They offered coffee, juices, and water too. I believe, at certain times during the day, they had a soda fountain drink station, but I think because of COVID, they had to shut that down, and they had to give individual bottles of water or juices."

"The facility is clean and homey (but not dated); patients are encouraged to eat meals together, and visitors are encouraged to be with them. I think their goal is to get rehab patients up and about-- and I think it works well. The therapy group is attentive and are considerate to do things like provide a schedule for the next day, so the patient knows what to expect. The staff (nurses/aides) are also attentive and communicate well with the patient and family. The aides and evening nurse on the floor had been working there for a while, so you get the feeling that they want to be there, and they have knowledge of the place. My family member who was a patient wasn't very fond of the scheduled activities (i.e., fashion shows, ice cream bars, etc.), but I think those kinds of events were nice and another indication that patients were encouraged to be out-and-about when not in therapy. If there is room available to rehab at this facility, I would suggest placement here.For rehab in the Norths Hills, Vincentian Home cannot be beat. "

"I recently had foot surgery and was fortunate to find an opening at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph for rehab services. My room was in the Ebensburg wing and the care staff was very professional and caring. Every time they attended to me, they always asked if there was anymore they could do to help. The food was good (other than spinach and broccoli). The menu was very diverse and with the ala carte options, there was always plenty to eat. I enjoyed working with the rehab staff. I had both PT and OT services and found both very knowledgeable and eager to find solutions to fit my needs. The room was very comfortable, containing a bed, recliner, dresser, tv and a couple of chairs for visitors. I also had a private bathroom, and both the room and bathroom were cleaned daily. Upon waking up in the middle of the night, I noticed that I was having difficulty breathing. Within minutes my room was filled with people. I was impressed with how fast they responded, how well they worked together as a team and how one nurse remained with me once my situation was resolved. That nurse sat with me and explained the vitals they took and how everything was normal and if there was an actual emergency, I would be taken to the hospital. My experience with Concordia at Villa St. Joseph was very positive and they helped me reach my goal of returning home."
