"The facility is beautiful, I will give them that. However, it was overall an awful experience. From the admission to when my dad left. We were not given very much information, processes on how things worked. Nanci the administrator was great. Most everyone else, we either felt like we were bothering them or they just didn't interact with us. When we tried calling in to check on our dad, most times it took up to an hour or more before we could make contact with someone. And a lot of times were told someone would call back, and they didn't. Professionalism is lacking terribly, from the DON, the social worker, the majority of nurses. I got a copy of the notes from the time my dad was there, and the nursing notes were very one sided. My dad was on hospice. The last straw was when his Fentanyl patch came up missing (several days after the fact, after I asked for the status of that, was told it was found in the trash can, and I am sorry, not really buying that). While we didn't want to move dad again, felt it was in his best interest to move him to where he would get the care and attention he needed and deserved. My dad was not a priority for them. I hate that I put my dad there, but it really the best option, sadly. Nurses would avoid us. Didn't want to deal with us. Maybe for short term rehab this would be ok. If your loved one isn't cognitively alert or medically fragile, you have to stay on top of everything and advocate strongly for them. "

"He was well taken care of by the associates there. He was a very independent person and had spent most of his life dealing with alcholism so being able to have people around him helped him a lot! My mother had worked at Bethesda care center for a couple of years and knew that it was a good place that would provide the care that he needed in his final days. He never ever acted as though he disliked being there and always had positive things to say about his nurses and his room mate. They had a community lunch room. On many occasions we would go and eat dinner with him. He was able to have many of his things in his room such as his recliner that he loved to sit in. He also had his tv and personal pictures up which was a comfort to him and us. My grandfather was a very lonely person through out the years. He had lost my grandmother when she was only 25 to tuberculosis and never remarried. So to get some interaction with other people on a daily basis was very good for him. "

"The staff is very friendly and the living spaces are kept clean and organized. My aunt is happy with the activities that are offered and assistants, and enjoys here own room with everything she could need. The residents are encouraged to mingle and join in many hosted events, and occasionally they offer tours to various locations. My aunt enjoys sitting by the large bird cage filled with colorful birds and watching them fly about. we looked into several places prior to this decision, and I think that this was the right decision to make. The cost is reasonable and I know she is happy spending her final years there. I would recommend to anyone dealing with this tough decision to look into Elmwood. Having to move a loved one to a nursing home is a big decision and everyone has different reasons for doing so, but you must always keep their best interest in mind when choosing a new home. "

"My husband is currently a patient at Elmwood West Campus. I wish we had time to research more places because they are not very attentive at all. If Im not there every day-he has to wait long periods of time for someone to answer when he asks for a nurse, and many times when someone finally does show-they say "Oh wait, I don't do that you need a nurse-let me try to find her" "

"Facility smelled good, looked clean. Staff was friendly. Large building. Great therapy room and department. "

"My wife was at Ottawa Riverview Nursing for a year. The staff was good. The room was fine. The food was acceptable. It wasn't great, but it was okay. It wasn't as good as the other place was. But they had bingo and they had musicians now and then. They had different games to help keep them social and a little active. They're located on the river and they could go out on wheelchairs outside. They had a nice garden area and an area where they could sit and get some fresh air. The staff were fine. The physical condition of the place was fine. The rooms were clean, but they just smelled like urine."

"My cousin has received excellent care even though she can be difficult at times. Rooms are comfortable and adjusted to her liking. Staff is available for questions. Sharon loves Bingo!"

"I've had relatives who are residents of Autumnwood Care Center. They have the residents' well-being in their minds and they're hard workers. I couldn't ask for a better place for my mom. The rooms were very nice. The dining room is gorgeous. The food I thought was very good. They have a good variety during every meal. If nothing sounds good for you, you can request something and they'll get it for you. No questions asked. They have outings. My wife and I are volunteers there now. We took some residents to Walmart for a shopping day. They've got library program, all kinds of games like bingo just about every day, they got birthday party once a month for whoever's birthday in that month. They also have card parties and morning coffee talks. I just like the whole facility. It's got everything a resident would ever need. They would not need anything, outside of their families coming to visit them. "

"My parents are in now Genoa Retirement Village. I'm very happy with it. The food is very good, like home cooked meals. The staff is very attentive. The place is the cleanest that I've ever been into. If the carpet is getting a little bit worn, they change the carpeting. They're always up-to-date on repairs and cleaning and painting. They never let anything get old-looking. "

"My grandfather is at The Cascades at Good Shepherd Home, and it's great. He has Alzheimer's, so he's in the Alzheimer's unit. I'm quite pleased with the unit itself in general. Their food wasn't bad, it was tolerable, and he seems to like it. Prior to Covid, we were very pleased with everything, then Covid happened and everybody's just trying to do the best that they can. There's been a huge outbreak at Good Shepherd with Covid-19 amongst residents and staff, and it was kinda why Good Shepherd was not an option to put my grandmother at because I do not want to chance her catching it. The facility is very nice. They have a church there for residents to attend. Their activities team is very much involved and their staff is very much hands on. I can't really say anything bad, they've taken great care of my grandfather. The only thing that I noticed was they tend to mix a lot of their residents' clothing. The residents share socks and stuff like that, and it gets mixed around. Other than that, I've been really pleased with Good Shepherd. As far as my grandmother, the only reason why we didn't go there is obviously the Covid outbreak there, and she's not quite at the level of care that I feel Good Shepherd Home is. My grandmother works better in assisted living community versus an actual nursing home setting. They had activities. I don't know about now, but every time we would go there to visit my grandpa, they were playing bingo and they were doing arts and crafts. Their activities team is really hands on and very active. They have their residents do a lot of things as best they can. There were nights where they would have musicians come in and sing and residents would come out and sit with them and sing too, and we would go up there and hang out with my grandpa. They were really good prior to Covid. Covid has really changed everything."

"I was in St Catherine’s for two months after a knee replacement. My stay was good and they had good people there. It was homey and clean. I participated in arts and crafts. I get therapy an hour a day, and I sit all the time. "

"Staff were great with my mom who was really anxious. Social work, Activities and chaplains were great!!"

"Independence House was not near as homey feeling as the other place. It was clean. I didn't feel there were as many staff around, but it had all the different things that we would want in a facility. I don't remember seeing any activities that were going on at that moment. They explained some of them to us and showed us the gym, the rehabilitation center, and the pool, and they were quite nice. The staff was very nice."
