"Riverside offers several floors for patients with varying degrees of need. I visited a family friend about once a week. The staff was always willing to take the time to answer questions. The public areas were clean and neat. One of my favorite things about Riverside was they had a "desk dog". She was specially trained, and added a bright note. The outside always had flowers or holiday decorations, and there were several benches. They tried to schedule many activities to keep the residents involved, and they often had events to which family members and friends were invited. I volunteered to help out at a bake sale and crafting fair. The staff and other volunteers were very positive and helpful. When the friend I visited became terminal, the counseling services were very helpful. The nurses showed extraordinary compassion and kindness, in helping her maintain her dignity toward the end. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Riverside Nursing Home. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others. "

"Langdon Place of Dover's atmosphere is very nice. They have a lot of facilities and they offer good medical care. The staff is very nice. They have a pool, a jacuzzi, a gym, a library, and they have full nursing care with their own machines, so if anyone needs an EKG or something like that they don't have to send them off to the emergency room, which is a good thing."

"The first time I visited the facility, I was apprehensive, because it's my grandmother and I didn't want her to spend the rest of her days in a poor nursing home. But to my relief, the staff was very polite, and assured me that she'd be taken care of. I was impressed by how well the staff was run, and how they treated the patients, and was also impressed by the quality of the food. It's a little shabby looking on the inside, but the wonderful staff make up for it. Not only does my grandmother stay at this facility, one of my friends works there as a dishwasher, and has said that they treat him very well, and are very polite. I would say something negative other than the slightly shabby appearance, but I can't think of anything negative. They take good care of my grandmother, and I'm glad she's in a place where I don't have to worry about her well-being. "

"I liked the way the rooms were divided at St. Ann Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Even though the rooms were shared, there was a wall between the two so that it was more private than a curtain. It's a very nice place and it's very clean and it's very up to date. It's a pretty place in a pretty location. They were very informative about the questions that we were asking. If you're a Catholic, it was geared toward mainly being a Catholic. They had a little chapel and a priest available."

"I had the pleasure of being given a tour of Greenwood Nursing Home in Sanford Me recently. I was very impressed to say the least. The frst thing I saw when going through the doors is a wooden Indian . The office staff was friendly and helpful. The Director of nursing met me in the lobby. I was introduced to the activities staff. There was a lot of activity going on that afternoon. There was a man singing and playing the guitar while some of the residents sang along and clapped. There was a chapel for the residents and their families. I was shown the hairdressers shop where the ladies get their perms, cuts and colors and the men get their haircuts. The hairdresser was giving a perm that morning. The rooms were cheerful, with plants and bright colored afghans and bedspreads. I saw the ways that the nurses and CNAs interacted with the residents. They were talking to their residents. The staff and the residents were happy and smiling. I left with a warm feeling about Greenwood Nursing Home. "

"My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's years before her stay at the Newton Center. She stayed there for a short stay, having only been there for rehabilitation. The staff were a mixed bunch; some were very kind and full of smiles, while others seemed to think most of the patients were bothersome, but I suppose those mixed attitudes can be found almost anywhere. The facility was kept clean, although at one point my grandmother's stuffed animal went missing. However, the social worker assigned to my grandmother was more than willing to track it down for her. All in all, it was a nice place for her to stay in even though I wish the nurses would react to the patients' needs a little more quickly. "

"Overall, Durgin Pines was nicely kept and clean. If you were looking for rehab, which my husband was, it did not fit his needs. Other than that, the staff was very friendly and very helpful. My husband was in the rehab section, and the staff did not keep him as fully informed as he would have liked to be. "

"I thought Mark WentWorth was absolutely beautiful. It was one of the nicest properties I visited. The lobby space was very nicely designed. There are wonderful sitting areas all over the property and on each floor. So, if somebody left their room and they headed down the hall, they had a place to sit. They had a snack area 24 hours a day. So, if somebody wished to have a cup of tea or coffee, piece of fruit, or a cookie, they had a place where they could get a snack. I thought that was outstanding. There were 2 dining areas, and one of them even had a piano. I thought that was a cool idea. So, if somebody chose to come in and play music for the residents, they could do it at a meal time or not. They also had a little space. They told me that there was somebody who lives there who loves to give little tutorials. He talks about travels and loves to give his presentations to the residents. In my opinion, the only drawback was, it was in the middle of the neighborhood and it was surrounded by houses. There wasn't a lot of walk around space. "

"This seemed to be a nice nursing home with a home like atmosphere. The foyer was welcoming with plants, a water fall and old style furnishings. The staff went out of their way to extend curtesies to me. The rooms were clean. The bedroom furnishings were more homelike. Some of the residents families brought in dressers and photos from their homes. There were brightly colored blankets and some crocheted afghans as well that were very colorful. The rooms and the bathrooms were a little more spacious than others I have seen but not by much. The shower, tub room was fairly large, with a newer tub and two shower stalls. The activity department was in full swing when I was there, complete with a sing-a-long that the staff and residents were participating. They all seemed to be having a real good time. The food was well presented. "

"My Grandmother has been living in this facility for about 2 years now. She really loves it there, myself and my family were pleastly suprised at this. Like any family making the adjustment was as difficult for us as it was for her. There is alot she gave up when moving there such as her car, her home, alot of her belongings and her cat, I know how hard this was for her, but once she got settled in and aquainted with the other residents she began to like it alot. When she lived on her own we all worried about her social life, she didn't have so many friends that were able to regularly get together. She would often have family around but come to find out that often isn't enough. Since she has been living in the Assisted living place shes become more active, with trips through the facility to go shopping, or to the movies ect. she has also become somewhat of a social butterfly, towards the end of her staying at home she began to mess up our names mixing me up with my uncles (by name only) we called these all Nanaisms, now she remembers alot more including introducing me to her new friends by name and remembering their stories ect. Nana also plays bingo regularly at the home, she really enjoys it, everytime I go her friends all say hes a good luck charm I want to sit next to him, its truely a beautiful thing to see her interact like this. The staff there are very helpful with medications and adjustments as well as locating her, sometimes I get nervous if I cant reach her on her private line I'll call the desk and they always say shes around here somewhere I'll go find her and have her call you, she always does. The building is very clean and well organized with alot of community kitchens and places to sit, talk, and or do puzzles. They have pet fish and places for the residents to put flowers and pictures. the rooms are big enough, my nana was lucky enough to get a private room, but started in a double. They have their own tvs and often get together to watch sports, or movies. As I said my entire family was nervous about putting our Nana in a "home" but with medical concerns she needed a place with medical facilities close by (attatched building) and we have all been pleasantly supprised, including Nana. "My husband is in rehab at Kennebunk Center for Health & Rehabilitation. Our experience so far is not good and I can't wait to get him out of there. They're not allowing visitors inside. He's been there for a little bit and we haven't gone in there to see him. They called me to tell me he's fallen three times, and they called me just to tell me how he's behaving when he's got dementia. The thing is, my insurance only covers a certain amount of time, and they're asking me to pay $10,000 a month to keep him there, which I haven't got. They tell me it's their policy. I don't know how to describe the person I've been in contact with over there, but she's nasty and threatening. She's telling me she's gonna send him home to me. I had an accident, and she wants me to care for him. I do not recommend them at all. They walk him around with a walker. There are certain people over there that are nice. The therapist is nice, and the admissions person, Daniel, is very nice. There's another person in charge of Social Services and she is not nice, not professional, not understanding, or just doesn't really care about the resident as she cares about money. I don't really owe them anything. My husband was supposed to leave there a couple of days ago. They're demanding a check for one week as soon as possible, and that's fine, I`m gonna pay them, but I don't like how I'm being treated. You're not getting value like you would in any other facility."

"We decided to choose Wolfeboro Bay Center as there is also a rehab center. My father had been there previously, went home for a while, ended up back in the hospital, and had to go rehab again, and he felt very confident with all the people that he dealt with there, so when the time came that he needed care 24/7, he said he would much rather stay there. He liked the place. I got a call from them today. They are excellent as far as letting me know what’s going on with him. They do call periodically if there’s anything out of the norm, like I was there today to see him, and when I came home I said to my husband dad wasn’t as good as he was last week when I went to see him. The nurse called tonight, and he has got a lot of symptoms: a cold coming on, he has got a fever, he is coughing, and they’ve called to let me know that. They would call and say, he is not feeling well today. He has a lot of indigestion -- little things that make us feel very comfortable where he is. They’re excellent in letting me know what’s going on. I think they do very well in every aspect of his care, and I am very satisfied. "

"When I was looking for placement for my mom I looked for a location that felt like home. The staff at Webster has been there for many years which told me the management is doing something right. They care about their residents. I knew it would be a great fit for my mom. I felt safe knowing she was being cared for 24/7. The nurses and LNA's treated my mom like family. Visiting her in her unit she was always happy and smiling. What else could I have asked for. I highly recommend Webster and appreciate all that was done for my mom."

"This intimate community is privately run and very very attractive. Relatively new, it was built just ten years ago as an addition to Colonial Poplin, one of the most highly rated nursing homes. For someone who has a retiring nature or is just a bit social, and cares deeply about the graciousness of her/his environment, this is worth checking out. For the caregiver, the smaller scale make it much more manageable than a larger place. And the staff are fabulous. Not only are they caring, they know their stuff and keep a sharp eye out for their residents' well-being. They know their residents as individuals. They speak relatively little baby-talk to residents, a prevalent demeaning habit in some larger homes. Oh, and the two brothers who own it are very gracious too, and they go out of their way to ensure that the food is nicely done. My mom lived at Poplin Way and then Colonial Poplin for four years between 2002 and 2006. That was a while ago, but it' s still run by the two brothers. Their continued presence makes me thinks that Poplin still keeps to high standards. The only downside, the reason for four stars rather than five, is that the laundry regularly lost items (as is true at most homes), the person handling the accounts was not cut out for the job (they Must have someone else by now), and the doctor was a severe challenge (and has since moved on). Visit http://www.colonialpoplin.com/ and see for yourself. "

"My husband was at Oceanside Center when he passed. The nursing staff was wonderful, they were very caring. Our experience was very good. They kept him very clean, and at the time I went there, they were kinda doting over him and that made me feel good. When he first went in there, he didn't want to eat their food and demanded a peanut butter sandwich or grilled cheese sandwich, and the kitchen catered to his needs. They went above and beyond to make sure that he would eat and that he got what he wants. He progressed very quickly, and up until he was at the end stages of life, they catered to his every whim. I can't say enough, he was a handful but they were awesome and caring, and took very good care of him."
