RiverWoods Exeter was very expensive, but it's also very nice. They had lots of activities for the residents. The facility was very well kept. Except for the cost, it's quite lovely. The staff was very attentive, very considerate, and very helpful. We visited our friend who is a resident there. She took us not to their dining room (which was not possible because of Covid), but to the cafe. The food was very good. They're still very alert to the possibility of Covid infection there. This is a first-class facility. The facility had very nice architecture and the landscaping was really first rate, so it's quite attractive.

My friends will be moving into the RiverWoods at Exeter. The tour experience was great. They did a nice job. It's a lovely facility, so we're pleased that they're going to be there. Plus, it's only four miles from our house. The staff was very knowledgeable, very professional, and very cordial. It is a very professionally well-run facility. The facility was well set up, clean, and well-maintained. They have a variety of facilities, depending on the level of care. It's a large facility. They have accommodations spread out across the facility. The assisted living facility is kind of centralized. The people said the food was good.

When my stepmom wanted to move up to Riverwoods, my dad considered it "God's Waiting Room". However, the care and feeding of the family home, and the concern that his children and grandchildren would not be burdened with his care made him decide to move there. Instead of God's Waiting Room, he has found it to be a wonderful, relaxing, stimulating environment where he can do what he likes when he likes without worrying about landscaping, snow removal, etc. The staff is more than fantastic, very caring and respectful of the people there. My dad loves the workshop, the pool, the hiking trails (which he helped map) The residents are included in all major decisions in how the community is run. It is definately for them and by them. All in all, I couldn't be more thankful that he and my wonderful stepmom is there.

RiverWoods at Exeter was the nicest place I've ever seen. I travel for a living and this was better than the Four Seasons. The only drawback was it's also the most expensive. It was a $250,000 downpayment and $8,100 a month. The service was absolutely great. We were visitors and they were falling over themselves to help. There were registered nurses and even a couple of MSNs, and nurses with Master's Degrees on the floor. They don't wear uniforms, but the professional attire they wear all ties them into the overall RiverWoods look and brand which is black, silver, and white. Everybody had a white shirt, black or gray trousers, and either jackets, sweaters, or vests to match. It was like a professional hotel. You could get in there and have independent living then assisted living services, then nursing care, all the way into end-of-life facilities or hospice. It was fabulous. If you were careful with your money and you want the best place to go, this would be my choice.

RiverWoods was a well-established community with 611 residents on three separate campuses that are close together and under the same ownership. It's a first-rate organization. The staff turnover was very low with some there 15 years, and the place has only been open for 20 years. Everything about it is pretty darn good. There are a lot of choices. They have individual cottages but also have a lot of rooms ranging from single rooms up to a double rooms. There's a lot of land around it and wooded trails. It's on high land with walking trails right down to the river. The food was terrific. The dining facilities were good. They had training facilities, exercise, and workout facilities. It's a first-class operation.

The visit at RiverWoods happened because I know somebody who actually lives there, so they showed us around. The visit was excellent. The rooms were spacious; they have a tennis court, and they have buses.

The Riverwoods facility is a fairly new facility and very up to date. It has modern amenities and is very clean and new. It was built with somewhat cheaper materials in some areas but for the most part, everything is very high quality and pleasing to use and see. The facility has everything someone could want. There is a pool, library, restaurant, hair salon, game room, etc. The staff is friendly and on top of things. There is a walking path outside that is nicely landscaped and maintained. Everything is taken care of here. My grandfather doesn't have to worry about anything. There are plenty of other residents that he can be friends with and they all take shuttles into town every week to have some fun shopping. The individual units where the people live are nice. There are several different floorplans for apartments and they are all well designed with all the features you would expect. The showers are accessible and everything is safe and easy to use. The climate control is individual to each apartment, so my grandfather can keep it just at the temperature he wants. I would recommend Riverwoods to anyone looking to move into assisted living.

I've had a number of clients at RiverWoods over the years and now. They offer independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and long-term care"”as well as a wellness center"”but no formal memory care. It's located on a 200-acre campus on the outskirts of Exeter. It's the only CCRC on the New Hampshire seacoast, and it's not very accessible from the highway. It does offer easy access to shops and restaurants in Exeter, but it's 20-25 minutes from Portsmouth, the closest large town. There are actually three campuses in all, two on one side of the road and one on the other. They're all easily navigable once inside, and the apartments"”studios or 1 bedroom units--are good size. Residents are required to bring their own furnishings, but most people consider that a plus. It makes everything familiar and cozy is the way one of my clients puts it. Even in skilled nursing, residents are expected to provide everything except the hospital bed. The grounds are beautiful; the landscaping is impeccable. And each campus has a library, an art gallery, and a pool. They always seem to have adequate staff, and they're very attentive to details: symptoms, appointments, follow-up. The social worker I know in the skilled nursing unit is very connected to her families. I would like to see staff receive more formal training in dealing with dementia residents and the behaviors which accompany them. I haven't known them to ask dementia residents to leave; they just don't offer any special help. I haven't eaten there, but my clients say the food is very good. But again, for the memory impaired, there's not a lot of interaction to help them with that. Activities are largely geared to the clients they're bringing in: classical music, a lot of outings to things like the Boston Pops, repertory theater, that kind of thing. And their internal transportation is outstanding. They have a van and a fleet of care, and the drivers are expertly trained. I've been really impressed with that"”though the staff can be a little overcautious in terms of who needs an escort to a doctor's appointment, for example. Activities in skilled nursing"“Bingo, music groups--aren't terrible, but there's room for improvement.
