My friend is currently at The Edgewood Centre. One thing about them is they seem to be just really busy. I think they may be a little understaffed. It's an older facility. My friend is in a shared room that's very cramped. There's not enough room for anything. There's a shared bathroom with another room that has another two people there and the bathroom has no shower. They have shower facilities, but you have to go somewhere else I've seen many lunch meals that my friend gets with me (it's often lunchtime when I go to see her) and they are just like your typical hospital meals. They don't look very appetizing. The facility seems to be clean and busy. There are people everywhere. They had activities, if not every day, it's often enough. In the afternoon, they have bingo and things like that. The activities are adequate. It's just too expensive.

My mom was at Edgewood for rehab and the plan was to move her to long term care. She arrived at the center with mild dementia and unable to walk without assistance. The Rehab Director and Rehab Staff were excellent. In the short time she was there, she progressed to being able to walk with a walker with minimal cues. However, the majority of the nursing staff/caregivers were a disappointment and at times negligent. My mom tested positive for Covid and put in a private room with the door shut. My moms Dementia had worsened and she was a fall risk being left alone. My family brought our concerns to the staff, but they seemed overwhelmed and did not assure us of her safety. One day after being alone in her room, my mom fell trying to get out of bed, hit her head, was hospitalized and died one week later. This was purely neglect and could have been prevented.

The family is very happy with the care that my uncle is getting at The Edgewood. Right now, he’s in the Dementia/Alzheimer’s Unit. The staff is nice. He’s been in there for several months now. They do special things for military, and they have crafts, cards, and go on outings, but my uncle has Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, so he doesn’t use the activities area.

My experience with Edgewood was very bad. They gave me medication that made me psychotic. It was clean and well-kept, there was a good staff, and the food was excellent.

I appreciate the quality of care. It is wonderful and that includes everybody: the owner, director, receptionist, nurses, physical therapist, OT, speech, the head nurses, the LPNs, and the cleaning people. The food is wonderful. They have a lot of activities. They have a sweethearts lunch for valentines. They are also going to have a chocolate festival. They have things for everyone.

It was a nice place with many activities for the guests to partake in as well as nice scenery. It was somewhat of a sad place though, walking by rooms where the people look about to die
Provider Response
We’re glad you enjoyed the setting at Edgewood. It looks like you were here in June when the children are on the playground, the herons are back at the pond, and the flower and vegetable gardens are gearing up for the season. You also referenced your sadness. Although some people do choose Edgewood for end of life care, the majority of people are here for short term rehab or nursing care – in short, for help living their lives to the fullest, no matter what health challenge they face.

This seemed to be a nice nursing home with a home like atmosphere. The foyer was welcoming with plants, a water fall and old style furnishings. The staff went out of their way to extend curtesies to me. The rooms were clean. The bedroom furnishings were more homelike. Some of the residents families brought in dressers and photos from their homes. There were brightly colored blankets and some crocheted afghans as well that were very colorful. The rooms and the bathrooms were a little more spacious than others I have seen but not by much. The shower, tub room was fairly large, with a newer tub and two shower stalls. The activity department was in full swing when I was there, complete with a sing-a-long that the staff and residents were participating. They all seemed to be having a real good time. The food was well presented.

Thank you so much for the feedback. We’re glad you saw what we see every day – staff who treat people as family, an environment that feels like home, and activities that foster joy.

Overall, this facility is one of the better ones that I have visited. The building is extremely clean and neat. The residents' rooms contained many items of state of the art medical equipment. In addition, the decor was much more welcoming than in some other places I have seen. There is a very large staff, and all member of the staff are qualified, friendly, and have an excellent rapport with the residents. The staff goes to great lengths to make the residents feel at home. They even offer large dinners on holidays so that the residents can still play host to their loved ones!
Provider Response
Thanks for taking the time to visit! You’re wise to pay attention to staffing as it’s the key to providing great care. The housekeepers will be thrilled that you noticed how hard they work to keep things spotless.
