What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
All staff receive dementia training as part of orientation. Genesis has updated dementia training modules which each staff person must complete throughout the year as protocols and new procedures/techniques are updated.
Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at Langdon Place of Dover. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?
Residents range in age from early 70's through 100. The majority are in the mid 80's. They are very mobile and active and go out to lunch, bus trips, enjoy music, happy hour, swimming in the heated pool and movies.

We offer over 150 activities monthly from brain games, shopping & lunch trips, religious services, crafting, exercise, socials, to a variety of entertainment.

Our bus will take you out to local restaurants and shops. Downtown Dover is just 1 mile away and lots of beautiful walking areas close by.

Wheelchair accessible bus runs twice a week to restaurants and shopping and once a week to doctor's appointments in Dover area.
What makes the chef or dining program at Langdon Place of Dover exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
At least two choices per meal, three meals per day offered. Because most apartments offer full kitchens with stoves/ovens, many residents opt to have breakfast in their apartments. Largest meal at noon and lighter menu in the evening.
What safety features or security measures does Langdon Place of Dover offer to assisted living residents?
Call pendants for each resident, pull cords in apartments, nursing on duty 24-7, monthly fire-drills and residents sign in and out and are accounted for daily. If a resident is slated to be a meal and does not show, the kitchen will call nurses to go check on the resident.
How does Langdon Place of Dover keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
Staff and nurses call families when DPOA is activated to update on falls, illnesses, concerns, etc. Monthly calendars are available for Assisted Living, Memory Care and for our Skilled Nursing Short-Term rehab. Staff call families not just when something concerning happens but when something wonderful happens with the resident so they share in the successes of their loved one.
If Langdon Place of Dover accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
We allow small dogs and cats. Pet fee per pet. Residents must pick up after their pets when walking outside on the extensive grounds. Residents must be able to care for their pets in order to keep them in their apartments.
What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?
All staff are dementia trained and nurses and staff undergo rigorous training on emergency preparedness throughout the year. The clinical team constantly learning about new techniques and protocols throughout the year.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
Langdon Place of Dover has nearly 100 staff onsite. During the week, managers are on duty in all departments with RN's and LNA's and MNA's in our rehab unit, RN and LNA's in our memory unit and RN's and LNA/MNA's in our Assisted Living. The highest staff is in the day time weekdays with three shifts covered 24/7. A full complement of staff is on duty on weekends and managers staff the building on weekends. Housekeeping, maintenance, kitchen and laundry staff are on duty or on call 24/7.
What safety features or security measures does Langdon Place of Dover provide to protect residents who wander?
Residents in our secure memory unit have a main door with alarms and codes that must be inputted to exit. The door is alarmed. Nurses station adjacent to door to watch over residents. Residents on Assisted Living can live on ALF as long as they do not wander. If they have a confirmed dementia diagnosis and are a wanderer, we transition them to our memory unit where they cannot elope outside. We have many couples where one lives on ALF and the other on memory and they spend time together and can have meals together on the memory unit. The memory unit has a large gated garden area for residents to enjoy the outdoors during the warm months.

Bus trips, out to lunch trips, museums, lots of entertainment, guest speakers, various types of socials, happy hour, brain games, exercise programs, crafting, swimming, word build, etc. Langdon Place of Dover also offers full regimen of PT/OT and Speech Therapy from Genesis Therapists for Assisted Living and Memory Residents as needed.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Resident is assessed prior to admitting, then upon admission and every 6 months unless there is a change in condition or resident returns from a hospitalization. Nurses constantly monitoring cognitive abilities and health and communicate with family and physicians as necessary.
What techniques does Langdon Place of Dover use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Those residents on assisted living with memory impairment are reminded or taken to dining room for their meal, helped with meal selection and monitored for safe dining. Nurses remain in dining room with residents on third floor whereas first floor dining room is for independent or low level assistance and functions more like a restaurant with waitress/waiter service. Residents in memory unit are taken to dining room, helped with feeding if necessary, ordering is done by staff based on choices residents prefer. Nursing staff monitor food/liquid intake for memory residents.

Regular family care plan meetings set up annually and families contacted regularly throughout the year if clinical detects a change in condition or concern about the resident. The clinical team and ALF Director regularly reach out to families to update them on any concerns or positive outcomes as well.
Describe the neighborhood around Langdon Place of Dover. Is it located in a residential neighborhood, a business district, a rural setting, or other type of locale?
Located about 1 mile from downtown Dover, we are surrounded by trees, fields, and wildlife. It's not unusual to see deer or wild turkeys wandering across our grounds almost daily. Within about 2000 feet is a large walking area near a historic cemetery with beautiful maple trees, and lots of walking paths.
Is Langdon Place of Dover affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
We are affiliated with Wentworth Douglass, the closest hospital where the majority of our residents have their PCP's. Wentworth Douglass is affiliated with Mass General and the Seacoast Cancer Center is part of the Dana Farber Cancer Center. Many patients also have primary care doctors affiliated with Portsmouth Regional Hospital which is just a few miles away across the bridge. We are only 1 hour to Boston to an array of specialty hospitals like Mass General, Brigham & William, Dana Farber Cancer Center, Lahey Clinic, etc.
