Mom moved into The Sarah Community. she's in Veronica House. It's very nice. The room is also very nice and recently remodeled. So far, good. The staff responds properly when my mom has issues there. When she presses the call button, they respond. They have all kinds of activities. They just had a Halloween party, and they had an Octoberfest party. They have a variety of daily activities, including bingo. Mom seems to like the food, and the dining area is clean and well-kept.

Avoid This Facility – Chaotic Communication, Zero Accountability, and Unprofessional Staff I would give zero stars if possible. My experience with the administration at The Sarah Community was a nightmare during what was already a stressful time for my family. The "Friday Afternoon Crisis" After being repeatedly assured by social work staff that a long-term care bed was available for my mother, the facility waited until Friday afternoon at 2:39 PM to notify me she would be discharged the following Monday. This gave me less than one business day to find a new facility for a non-ambulatory patient. Systemic Dysfunction & Lack of Care There is a massive disconnect between departments. Social work told me multiple times a bed was reserved; Admissions flatly denied it. I was gaslit by admissions staff who asked if I "thought" I had a conversation about a bed or if it actually happened. They even hung up on me when I expressed frustration at their lack of help. I ultimately had to drive to the facility on a Saturday to physically grab referral paperwork because they failed to fax it to the new facility. No Accountability from Leadership I sent a detailed email documenting these systemic failures and the unprofessional conduct of the admissions staff to both the Facility Administrator and the President of DePaul Hospital. To this day, I have not received a single response. It is clear that the administration couldn't care less about the families they serve or the distress their dysfunction causes. Failure of Care The irony is that after moving my mother to a different long-term care facility, she improved so significantly that I am now moving her into assisted living. The skilled nursing care at The Sarah Community, which was supposed to help her recover, failed to do so. This is a faith-based institution that claims to care, but their internal communication is broken and their leadership is unresponsive. If you are looking for a collaborative, compassionate environment for your loved one, look elsewhere. They will leave you scrambling at the 11th hour with no support and zero accountability from management.

The rooms are small and not very clean. The food was edible but not very good. The staff was the worst. My mother was insulted and scolded by the staff. Her meds were never given to her on time or when we requested them. When it was time to move out, we were unable to get my mother's meds returned to us. Staff is lazy and uncaring.

The Sarah Community was nice. We toured the part that had been remodeled recently. The rooms were really big and the patients had privacy. That's our favorite place. We met people, and everybody was nice. There are a lot of retired nuns that live there. They're very religious, as far as having a big church and mass every day. They had a gift shop and a restaurant for the families like a deli, where you could place orders for sandwiches and things like that. It's near restaurants.

I had a cousin in The Sarah Community. She passed away a year ago. She was in nursing and she was on private pay and I think it makes a big, big difference. The staff was very friendly and they liked my cousin a lot. She was not able to get up on her own, they had to use a Hoyer lift, but when she was up, she could move around in the wheelchair on her own. They were very caring and they took pretty good care of her. She had no sores or anything on her, and she was happy with it. What was nice about it was, even though she was in skilled care, it's like you have a separate room, but you don't. They had a curtain in-between and they all had a big window in their rooms that they could look out to. All the rooms that I could see were like that so that was very, very nice for skilled care. It was fairly clean too.

I went to The Sarah Community. It was significantly more than the other place. The staff was very pleasant, and a resident also was in the lobby. She spoke up and said, "This is the best place in the world to live, I hope your mom comes here." That one is two-stories, and I would be uncomfortable with my mom and being on the second floor. Now maybe they would put the more mobile people there I would think, but I would feel uncomfortable having my mom going to long-term care, and being on the second floor.

Anna House was more on rehabilitation. They were wonderful to my mom. I couldn't ask for a better care.

Veronica House was where my mom stayed. The staff treated her well. Thay had a lot of activities and they were free. People came to play music to the residents and my mom loved that.
