I am a friend or relative of a resident

Of the people working with her at Galtier Health Center, some were good and some were not. Some staff would respond quickly and others would not. The cleanliness was poor and the facility definitely needed upgrading. It's overcrowded and it's not a good place. The rooms were very small, although their dining room was spacious enough and clean. I wasn’t able to taste the food, but my client did not complain about it. They offer activities like bingo, music, and other appropriate activities.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

So far, I am not very impressed by the facility, although the people that we interacted with that were working there were nice and friendly and seemed to be caring. The people working in the patient care and support seemed to be people from the immigrant community, which I understand, hold elderly people in a more valued position than some of us here that are native to the US, so I was not unhappy with the person-to-person care. However, there was a displeasing smell, more of food, than anything else, which made me not want to stick around. Imagine how it must be to have to live with that smell all the time. I was let into the elevator after the empty food trays had been in their and so I saw the state of what was left after all the people had eaten. Not above average, to say the least, and not what I would like. I tried to find out why my relative had been taken to this place, in hopes that maybe a better place might be possible, but the relative seemed to be ambivalent to the changes. This nursing home is located in the inner-city, right by the capital building, in a rough part of town. I would hope that no one "gets out" here, but I saw a few residents sitting outside in front of the building, enjoying the nice day, but still, I guess that I might be concerned about the neighborhood for any resident that might wander. The staff member that was cleaning the large dining room in which we were sitting for our visit, seemed nice, and was attentive to her cleaning, but she did miss a spot on the floor, which was closer to where we were sitting to visit. That spot had something liquid, which was either a food or beverage spill, or possibly even urine. She no doubt did not clean the floor over there because we were visiting, but still, that spot should have been cleaned, no doubt about it, because our relative actually stepped into it and I did not knwo what to do to get her into a clean sock. This could have been slippery and even dangerous.
