Dementia training for direct care staff is 8.25 hours initially. Dementia training for non-direct care staff is 4.25 hours. All staff receive 2 hours of training annually thereafter.

The Independent Living residents at Abiitan Mill City share a common interest in a variety of things, especially things that feed their interest in life-long learning, the arts, being engaged in community and enjoy engaging in interesting conversation. They have a passion for the urban living but especially enjoy having the best of both worlds of access to city living while residing within the charming Historic Mill District just one block from the Mississippi River. For our residents, age is more a frame of mind than anything else.

Located in the Heart of the Historic Mill District, Abiitan Residents enjoy access to all kinds of interesting venues and recreational parks including; Guthrie Theater, Mill City Farmer's Market, Gold Medal Park, MacPhail Center for Music, Stone Arch Bridge, Water Works Riverfront Parkway, multiple restaurants and grocery stores including, Trader Joe', Whole Foods and Lund's-Byerly's, Within walking distance of US Bank Stadium, public transportation (bus and light rail within a few blocks) ... so much to enjoy right out your front door!

Abiitan is within walking distance of the Government Plaza Light Rail for both the Blue and Green Line Trains as well as bus lines.

If Abiitan Mill City accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?

Abiitan Mill City is a pet friendly community. MAX pet height is 18", MAX pet weight is 30 lbs. Non-refundable $800 pet fee is required. In addition to convenient, accessible walking paths for our canine lovers there is City Paws on the same block should you desire any doggy daycare, grooming, dog-walking, etc

Personal Health Care Services are available through our clinical team at Abiitan, an Ecumen community. In addition, residents may choose to bring in any other contracted service provider they wish to employ.

Located in the Historic Mill District of Mpls, Abiitan is 1 block from the Mississippi River and the iconic Stone Arch Bridge. There are wonderful parks nearby for outings with loved ones. MacPhail Center for Music is across the street and home to Giving Voice Chorus which welcomes people with dementia and their caregivers or volunteers to join in weekly singing. Porter Cafe is a cheery spot to enjoy a specialty coffee, baked goods or ice cream!
