Roosevelt Garden Estates was a smaller building, which made it feel a bit more home-like. We were able to see a 2-bedroom apartment with a den, which was very adequate in size. It was laid out nicely. It had a balcony, a washer and dryer, and everything in it. The kitchen size was nice, too, because it was an open kitchen with just an island. This made it feel bigger because it was almost part of the living room, even though it was separated by tile flooring and wood flooring. The bathroom was a nice size, too. The manager took us around and that went well. She came to us right away and showed us the apartments, and the areas for activities and eating. The residents were playing some games in one of the rooms and they had different social things that go on. They had a bus service. The campus was nice, and they had a garden outside where you can plant things in. It was located within about a 4-minute drive to get to anything that you want in Cambridge.

Roosevelt Garden Estates was completely an independent living place. They said it was a 55+ community, but there were lots of things that were not compatible for a senior person to live. The bathroom we had was not safe. There were no bars to hold on to get into the tub or out of the tub or over by the commode, and the kitchen appliances were very hard to reach. It was brand new, but overall, it just didn't seem like the senior community that we had lived in in the past. They had no activities. The pandemic kind of hurt that, but they had a puzzle room. There was only one table that you had to share with everybody in the building, which was not very easy to do. For me, that's not what I call a puzzle room if it's just one table. A friend of mine actually moved with us over there and we tried to start game afternoons, but that didn't work. They also tried to do a wine and cheese thing, but if you're not a drinker, that wouldn't work. There weren't any amenities outside, but we had a garage that we paid extra for. There was an exercise room, but they never opened it while we were there because of the pandemic. They had some garden spots, but you had to pay extra to use them. There were a lot of conflicts, but the manager didn't seem concerned about the people who live there. It was like you pay your rent and that's all she cared about.
