I visited this facility

I did a tour of Addington Place of Clarkston. It is the one that we were originally looking at to put my mom in. I like the nurse there. She was very informative and helpful. The place was under renovation, so that was the biggest concern. My mom has very limited memory right now, so consistency was going to be a key rule. We ended up deciding to move her a little bit closer to us and to a place that wasn't constantly changing at the moment. We had picked out a room, that was a nice, big, one-room studio. They only had studios. They were clean and nice, but they were only studio sized. The staff who gave me the tour was nice, but she was harder to get information out of. She didn't follow up very well. I had a lot of reservations because I had a lot of questions and things like that. They were difficult to communicate with. Their dining area was small and in front, and it was under renovation and things. Everything looks pretty. They were just painting the walls and painting the stairs. They didn't have things on the walls or furniture in there, so it looked pretty dreary at the time. I can't judge the moment because they're fixing it all up. I'm sure it's going to be beautiful. I did not try their food, but it looks clean, and it was pretty simple. They did have one patio area that I looked at, but it looked like they hadn't kept it up very well. In their assisted living, the nurse there was good at telling me what was going on, how they would bring her to the meals, and how they would do activities. She'd be in a room a whole lot and things like that. So, the activities and things that they had available sounded good for my mother. The people there looked more like they are on the nursing home level. I think that it's going to be nice when they're done. They did have a few monthly big events and outdoor events. They had some good activities that sounded like they do regularly.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in an assisted living building at Addington Place of Clarkston. I had made several calls to other places and Addington Place called me back and they were close also. The layout is inviting. My mom's room is close to the dining area, so it's convenient to visit her. There's a courtyard there. It's very well done. They're redoing it now, but even before they started to redo it, it was very beautifully done. They had a very welcoming lobby. The staff is friendly. They seem to know mom well, which tells me they've spent a significant amount of time with her. They bother to get to know the little things about her, what she likes, what she doesn't like, what time she likes to have ice cream in the evening, little things like that. There's a lot of staff, you have the care level, you have the director, and you have an activities person. Most of them are very professional. There are a few new people. I would say 90% of them are just top-notch staff. In every facility, you're going to find a staff member that's a little off or they're just maybe a little too busy, but that's not the case there. The majority of their staff are topnotch, and almost treat my mom like they're her own mother or grandmother. Compared to other areas, they're probably one of the best. I've tasted the food a couple of times and it's good. They have a great activities coordinator and she's got all kinds of things going on there. They have people come in that play instruments and they have a 50s day and there's just a lot of different things. They had dancers come in that were from New York and do a little performance for us. It was neat. I happened to be there that day when they came. It was expensive, but I was surprised that it was as reasonable as it was, given the quality of this place. It's kind of like a hidden gem.

So far, everything at has been wonderful. My aunt is getting good care. The nurses have all been so very pleasant. We haven’t had any issues with non-response. Overall, it's been a good experience and I would definitely recommend it. The menu is decent, and the food is good. They would make something different if she wanted something else. If she wants more, I could go down and get her a second plate. Everybody was very pleasant and prompt in addressing her needs. The place is very nice and clean. I saw the activity sheet, and it was pretty awesome, but we never partook in any of them.

I visited this facility

My dad was here, and it was excellent. The staff went over and above with their care, and they were very personable with him. The room was spacious and had enough room for his bed, a dresser, and a recliner. At one time, he had a small kitchen table in there, a fridge, a microwave, and built-in storage. The food was very nice, and they give them a choice, two choices for their dinner. He had a hard time when he was ill, and when he couldn’t make it down there, they would bring his dinner to him. They would take them to shopping or on outings, and they had someone that would come in, sing, and did pure exercises. I would recommend it to anyone.
