"I visited the memory care facility of Viva Senior Living at Stafford. One of the things I liked most was the residents, because they were so welcoming. The person who gave the tour was top-notch. She was very knowledgeable about her facility, and she knew people by their names. I observed her talking to a patient who had memory issues, and the patient was really disgruntled by the nurse, but she resolved everything within a matter of three minutes and calmed the resident down. It was refreshing. I would have picked that place. I knew my mom would have been in good hands. I would definitely give it the highest score from the overall look, the cleanliness, and the awareness of the staff with their residents. I didn't taste the food, but the menu looked very good. The place did need updating. They lock everything down at a certain time. They said that even though my mom would be in her apartment, the way it's set up, she will still remember where her apartment is. If she ever gets lost in the facility, someone will always find her because it's locked down. The good thing about it is that the residents outside of memory care would immediately call the staff if they notice a memory care resident walking where they are not supposed to be."

"My parents are residents of this facility and it is without a doubt a top notch facility! It starts at the top with the owners, an awesome husband-wife team. It continues with the caregivers, who are well trained and care about the residents (as opposed to only being there for a paycheck) and the building is fairly new (3 years), very clean and pleasant to visit. If I could give 6 stars to Evermore Senior, I would!"

"Tribute at The Glen by Cogir was beautiful and nicely laid out. They had beautiful apartments with huge closets. It was nice in that respect. Their grounds were pretty. There were lots of outdoor spaces, different courtyards, and walking paths. The woman who did the tour was super great and super friendly. She listened to all our concerns and answered all our questions. She was the most well-versed in explaining levels of care and how that works, that they're kind of fluid and you can go back and forth between all of them. She was good. The menu looked amazing."

"Marian Manor of Stafford is where we have my mother-in-law now. We are very pleased with it. She has dementia, she’s Japanese, she's 87, and she’s a difficult placement. After about the first day or two, she had some big adapting to do, but after that, she settled right in. She’s quite happy. She’s made a little circle of friends, and she’s happy as a lark. It’s everything that we could not provide for her at home. The place is a little bit older, so it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles like some of the new ones. The care that she gets is fabulous. It’s just a small amount of people -- 39 or less -- and they all socialize with each other. They do everything together so they don’t have an opportunity to get lonely. It was a good fit because the place was cozy and quaint, with hummingbird feeders outside. The surroundings are kind of off into the forest area. It was more like home. When we placed her, they asked us what food she preferred. They went out of their way to accommodate her. The meals look awesome -- much better than where she was before -- and she’s happy to eat them. She loves the food, and she’s eating more regularly. The cook is from the Philippines, and in the afternoon, she makes my mother-in-law’s favorite green tea in a pot so she can have afternoon tea. That’s something that she’s done all her life, so it’s been really good. "

"My mom lived at Spring Arbor for three years until she passed away recently. She was extremely well cared about and cared for when she lived there. All of her needs were met and the staff took such special interest in her that she never felt like she was living among strangers. She raved about the food and the staff -- and my mom was never easy to please. I visited my Mom at Spring Arbor nearly every day. I can say, without a doubt, that the residents are in great hands there and are treated like family. There were always activities going on and lots of the residents became close friends with one another. My mom was really happy there and that meant the world to me."

"We toured Potomac Place Assisted Living and Memory Care. I didn't taste the food. We saw them having lunch and it smelled good. The woman we spoke to answered all our questions. She was very pleasant. We got to see the model rooms. We talked to some of the residents, and we talked to some of the staff in the physical therapy department. They have a doctor, a podiatrist, and a physical therapist that rent a space in the building, which is a bonus not having to run to all your other doctor's appointments. They have a hair salon. It's a nice, neat, and well-kept facility from what I saw, and it's one of our top choices."

"I visited three to four communities but we decided to move Dad here. Residents were having fun outside the building and one can tell how happy they were. Dad spoke with a couple or residents and they all were happy to be there. Dad being a veteran was very excited about the their veterans program. Within two weeks my dad moved in and feels very happy every time I visit"

"Harmony at Chantilly has all three levels of care. They have independent living, assisted living, and memory care. I didn't go to the memory care, but I passed by the assisted living and I visited the condo for independent living. The condo that I visited was quite nice. It was like a two-bedroom. I live 7 minutes from it, so it would be ideal in terms of the location because everything that I use, the services, grocery, hair salon, nail salon, everything is kind of close by. I just feel like this is not for me yet. I met with somebody. She was not a permanent staff there. She was at the Harmony for maybe a couple of months to help out with the training. She was very nice and very patient, and she took her time and explained everything to me. I was very pleased with my interaction with her. I saw the menu, but I did not try the food. They had a little room where people could exercise, but the facility was minimally equipped. It had only a treadmill and maybe some weights. They had things like a board game, that kind of thing, and they're more sedentary. I wanted something more active because I am very active right now. The vacant condo that the staff had me visit was very nice and very clean. I liked it. The only thing is when we were walking in the corridor, it didn't smell very nice. I felt like somebody did not clean the bathroom. It didn't smell clean and fresh. It felt like the lavatories were unattended for some time. When I passed by the assisted living area where people were eating, it was quite a depressing sight because all the people there were old and with some kind of disability physically, they were all with canes or walkers, or somebody holding on to them. I didn't see people like me, still able, vibrant, energetic, and moving along. It was a bit depressing frankly."

"Advent Care is like a house in a neighborhood. It's a nice idea, but it wasn't quite what my aunt needed in terms of the bathroom being accessible. I think it would have been difficult for her to get around the house in a wheelchair. The lady was very helpful. Even when she knew that we weren't going to be able to do private pay, she shared resources with us on how to get financial help to try to get her into a comfortable situation. She even followed up with me later and sent me websites and stuff. It has two rooms, one has two beds, and the other only has one bed. She said her family lives there at the house, and there was a dog, which I know my aunt wouldn't like. She said that when her husband and her child are home, they help. She prepares meals, which is nice. My mom went with me, and she is in her 60s. She does have knee problems, and she had a hard time getting around. There wasn't a railing on the front step. There wasn't a ramp. She had to use the bathroom, and she had a hard time getting up off the toilet because there weren't the handicap bars where they needed to be. I wasn't comfortable with it. It is not well-equipped for someone who can't walk on their own. If they can get up and walk around, it is a nice little house, and meals are made from scratch. They had chairs and stuff outside, but it was a question of how to get them out there. There's no ramp. The lady said that they encourage them to be out and about, and they have TVs in the family room. She was very helpful, even knowing that we weren't going to be able to give them our business. She still continued to offer support, health websites, things like that to help us find a place and offered to even take my aunt temporarily for a lower price if we couldn't find a place for her to live, like if we couldn't get the Medicaid thing settled. She was a very, very nice lady. It was more physical equipment-wise that was questionable. The food looked good, like homemade fresh vegetables, chicken, that kind of thing."

"I toured Home Eldercare. The staff was pretty nice and tried to let us know what to expect there and what service they would provide. However, the only thing is that the living conditions are a little bit different than what we expected. Two people will share one unit, and the bathroom is quite tight. I'm a little concerned about sending my mom there, and that's the only thing, but the staff seemed willing to help."

"My friend moved into Harmony at Spring Hill. It's very pretty and clean. The staff that I've dealt with have been very attentive and helpful. There seems to be a lot of activities, like bingo and movies, typically twice a day. They have a little theater room and they pop popcorn and the residents request the movies. They take them out, like yesterday she got to go to WalMart. They take them to WalMart once a month and to the grocery store once a week. She has a studio room. It's small, but a little more than I thought it would be. It's pretty spacious. So far, she says the food has been good. The best part about this place is that she gets to bring her dog."

"Legacy Ridge is just a memory care place. You just circle right around. When they get out of their room, they can just walk and they'll come right back to their room. It's one big place, so they can't get lost if they just keep walking. There's no scent or any smell or anything. They have clean rooms and are very safe. All of the people there were so friendly. One of the nurses who deals with all the patients even stopped and listened to me and talked about things. The dining room and activity room are very large and well-appointed. They have good menus for the patients. I saw several of the staff connecting with people and assisting one walking down the hall and just being very patient. It's a top-notch place, but you pay for it."
