"It is on our short list. They're building it, and when we looked at it we were wearing hardhats to look at the rooms. The rooms looked nice. They were new, they looked surprisingly big, the facility itself is large, the outdoor space is very large, and there's a pool and a hot tub. They have a gym, a salon, and a golf simulator room. I didn't meet any of the staff there, just marketing people. The rooms were top of the line, and I thought they were very pretty. The dining area and activity room is ready. They're not scheduled to open 'til the end November."

"We visited Belmont Village Los Gatos. It is a very new facility, so the physical appearance was excellent. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming. This isn't a negative, but it's focused on assisted living. We were looking for something with a little higher functioning population for more independent socialization. We also visited their memory care facility, and we felt that it was excellent. If memory care was our goal, we might very well choose that as our first choice."

"I visited the Palm Villas of Campbell. Gary, one of the owners, gave me the tour, and it was very nice. They're very focused on their residents, and essentially, they convey that they do whatever they need to do to take care of their residents through end of life, so that's a positive for them. They have a nice outdoor patio area with a big bird sanctuary. The rooms have two configurations, and they're all shared. One was more of an L-shape, and one was more of a rectangle. They also provide furniture like beds, dressers, and nightstands. It's a little dated, but they're providing it for you, and they're not charging rent or anything on the furniture. I didn't ask if we could choose to bring our own, so I don't know about that. It's a very clean facility. It's an older building that they've updated and upgraded, but all the amenities are there. It's all on one level, spread out over a couple different hallways and different areas like an activity room and a dining room. One of the good things about them was that they have their own chef and their own kitchen there. They don't buy any pre-made food; they shop the ingredients, and they make their own food. I was looking for memory care during my visit. They're a locked facility, and they said they will provide whatever care is needed up to end of life. They also have an activity director; it's someone they have who just focuses on activities. From what I remember, they provide a full day of activities. Back when visitors are allowed with their families, they were really focused on having families join them on special events. They will do parties where family members are encouraged to come once COVID is over."

"Sonnet Hill Senior Living is a good place. Dad has been in the memory care for a week now. Price was a big factor as to why we chose it. It is within our price range. It is a smaller community, and it is new and clean. The people are very kind and helpful. They have very good meals. They offer activities to the residents, and dad has been able to participate in one or two of them."

"The Watermark at San Jose has been open for several months now. We've met some of the staff but not enough to evaluate them. We've met the chef and the manager and it's all positive. It's very nice and it is a little less expensive than the other place. We had lunch and we were unimpressed. I wouldn't give the lunch any more than a three. The presentation was not very good. The plating was less than what you would expect in a nice restaurant."

"All About Seniors is an actual home setting, so it's very homey, comfortable, and has a relaxed feel. The staff also lives there so they take care of the place very well, it's very clean. The food is excellent, and because there's only six residents, the ratio is 3:6, so it's a good level of care. They still have the usual activities. People come in and play music, there are arts and crafts, and so on. It's a lot less expensive than other facilities, but provides much better care."

"This is the best care and the best care givers in the Santa Cruz area!! The rooms for the most part are LARGE with lots of light with part of the the 14,000square foot facility newly remodled???????? the price can't be beat for the service and the love ! NO nickel and dining here!! As most places in this area do...... highly recommend this place .... "

"It was a good visit. Belmont Village of San Jose was very nice, and the staff that I did talk to was very pleasant. The place was very clean, the accommodations looked very good, and the programs were very similar to the other Belmont, of course, but it seemed like a very nice place to stay. The common dining room was very nice, spacious, and crowded at the time I was there, but not crowded in a bad way; it was just busy and full, and the social programs that they had were very good. "

"Villa Fontana is an older building and not quite as nice. The rooms are a little bit smaller and have a closed-in feeling, but the people are really nice. This is a private organization, so you don't have to be worried about changing care providers. There are three different places in the organization, and one of them is a nursing home, which is very good. They also do memory care and assisted living. There is another building that's basically for independent living/retirement. The third building is a nursing home, which is really excellent. The people seem to be happy, and the staff does a good job of caring for them. They do chair exercises, outings, and get-togethers in the afternoon. They play bingo and games. After dinner, they have Wheel of Fortune watch parties. They try to keep people's minds active. There are arts and crafts, and people come in from outside for activities. "

"What I like about Belmont Village was that it was close, it was clean, and it met what our needs time-frame wise. We also like the fact that everything was self-contained, so we didn’t have to worry about having to go to any place. They have a lot of programs that worked out really well for us during that time frame. We didn’t have to worry about transportation. They had sufficient staff to be able to get through each of the rotation. They had nursing staff that was available if needed. "
