"Meadowcrest At Middletown is brand new and it is beautiful. It is quite luxurious compared to the others, I've visited with high ceilings and big windows, and they have nurses on-site doing physical and occupational therapy. They have other exercise classes, yoga classes, and all kinds of physical fitness things going on. They have lots of common spaces. They have lots of activities, some large multi-purpose type rooms, and some small areas where people could gather. The dining area was quite nice. The location is right off two major highways, so it's very accessible to people in Delaware. It's kind of centrally located."

"The tour at Brookdale Hockessin was very nice, it's a great experience. They did a very thorough tour. The staff who gave the tour was very friendly, as were all the other staff and the residents. They were all much more interactive than anyplace else I had visited. The facility is very, very nice, it is smaller and more boutique. The location is a little difficult to get to because from where we were, there were lots of small, windy roads. I spoke to several residents there, and they seemed all very happy and willing to talk and encourage anybody looking for someplace to move for assisted living there. They weren't set up by the person taking me around, they were all just people who were there sitting in the public areas and willing to talk."

"What I liked about Loving Care Assisted Living IV very much is that they had more than one nurse or attendant. With the other place, because it was out so far, it was a little unnerving that if there was a medical emergency or something, I don't know how they would get the residents, other than calling an ambulance, and how they would attend to everybody else. I liked it very much. In fact, I would choose this for my parents. It's in the middle of Havre de Grace. It's centrally located right in town. They had lots of places to walk. They said they take their residents out. There's a park close by. It's fairly clean. It was larger than the other place. They have a designated shower area, which is great, as opposed to just a bathroom. The other place had a tub where you had to sit on something and get into the tub for a shower. The staff was very bubbly. I love the way she joked around with the residents. They were all very happy and comfortable. She warned me ahead of time that a couple of residents, one in particular, would ask if they could go outside, and leave the building and it was cute. She was also very knowledgeable and informative. She knew about everything that was going on. In fact, they are getting ready to build an addition. Right now, they have rooms for two people sharing. The expansion that they're doing will make the rooms a little larger so they can accommodate a couple, which would be my mom and dad. They do activities, games, and things like that."

"The Lorelton was very nice, but it wasn't for us. The staff treated us very nicely, and they were very friendly and accommodating. It only had apartments, and it was not what I was interested in. The place was clean and modern, and it didn't have a nursing home smell at all. The parking was not very good because it was a street parking. "

"My mother is going to Friends Home in Kennett. The director was very nice. They had a nice front porch. The staff during the tour seemed very upbeat and knew a lot about Kennett Square. They have little outings from time to time. They have a beauty parlor. When we walked around, we only saw one other person there. Then my mom went for a luncheon at a later date. She said the people were friendly enough. The whole place needs updating. It's an old building. They just put new elevators in. The dining area was kind of old. The facility looked pretty clean. I'm kind of surprised my mom chose this place, but she is just going to go for a month and try it out. I wouldn't choose it for myself. Her room is just a simple one little room with a bathroom and it has no kitchenette, refrigerator, or microwave, nothing like that."

"Rockland Place was one of my favorite places. The reason we didn't select it was just location. Some of the things I liked was it was clean, it was neat. When I first walked in, the lodge room was straight ahead, and the residents were having lunch. There were aides and staff being helpful to the residents. I saw people get in touch. I did like their memory care unit. One of the things they say is helpful for folks with dementia is a green bathroom. Their bathrooms were painted, and the green color helps them with depth perception. The one drawback I saw was it was one, big dining room for the entire place, so I think that people like my mom have found that a little overwhelming instead of smaller dining rooms for different wings or different halls. However, I really, really liked Rockland Place. The accommodations were very nice and new-looking. "

"My mom has moved into Merion Gardens. It is a very nice and clean place. The staff seems to be fairly efficient and they're pleasant. My mom's room is being kept clean, and she is getting good care. I'm happy with it, and as mad as she was about having to go there, she likes it now. The activities are sufficient for her because she doesn't remember too much. It is a nice place if that's what you have to be in. She has only been there for a few weeks, but I'm pretty happy with it. Food is pretty good, too."

"HarborChase of Wilmington seemed to have a lot of staff members available. So, there's more individual attention and that's why we moved my father in there. It's clean, bright, and engaging. The memory care has a lot of activities throughout the day and interaction. His room is clean and a perfect size. I've alsot looked at other places that were the on same price, but they were less appealing and had less offerings than this facility."

"I knew right away that I wasn't going to select Sunrise. Not because of anything I saw, but because it had a neighborhood-look to it, and it just seemed a little bit confusing to me. It seemed like a lot of patterns and a lot of prints. I know that they were going for the homey kind of look, but I found that cluttered-looking. They had the same care team every day. I have to say, for dementia patients, having the same care team taking care of you is very good. I saw three rooms. One was a studio. One was the Denver, and one was a medium studio. They did have a full rehabilitation on-site, so I thought that was good. The halls were small. Each hall was, I think, what they call the neighborhood, and they had a main room. After breakfast, they have an exercise program. Hand massages and manicures were available. 54 assisted-living apartments. There was an offer for a $100 off your move-in fee. There was nothing that I didn't like about it other than I wasn't going to go for it, and that was mainly because of the location. It was far away from our homes, and I thought it might be a little bit confusing for Mom. "

"Forwood Manor had several levels of care. The place was clean and beautifully furnished. The staff was excellent and helpful. There were lots of activities. I spoke with one of the residents who talked favorably about outside trips that were sponsored by the facility and also about a group that got together regularly for jigsaw puzzles, something that was organized by the residents. The people were taking an active role in forwarding activities that they were interested in and organizing clubs. When I took my mother back, they served lunch, and the food was really good and restaurant quality. "

"Our mom has been at Ivy Gables since May 2015. She is 94 yr old and has been having ups and downs. The staff has been with us for everything. They are compassionate and caring. Due to the intimate size of the facility noone gets lost in the crowd. The food is fantastic and thought is taken for the indiviual taste. The room is a nice side and private. We are completely satisfied with everything at Ivy Gables. I could not recommend it more. "

"The staff at Sunrise of Westtown seemed very friendly and welcoming. They showed a lot of respect for their residents. They have several room arrangements where you could either share a room with one other person or have a place by yourself. I liked the idea that the rooms in the dementia wing were exactly the same as the rooms in assisted living, so if you have to make a switch, you could switch to something of the same size as what you had before, you don't have to down size. I liked the outdoor area that they had for the dementia wing where people could walk outside and sit on benches and enjoy the garden. I liked the fact that the caregivers followed their clients from the area where they live to the dining room, and they actually serve the residents that they are in charge of at mealtime, so they could watch their behavior as they ate. So, it's really good quality of care. "

"We went here. We loved the people. We loved everything available, whether it was the activities that they had or the different rooms that they had. They had a movie theater room and a craft room. They just had a lot of different things there. What we didn't like, it was too spread out for my mom because of her mobility. Everyone I met was definitely engaged, caring, and very involved in what they were doing with the residents. They just had a lot of activities. It was very clean, and it just seemed that the residents were engaged. They had PT and OT on site. They had a craft room, a sewing room, and a game room. They had a pub. It was really cute, it was styled like a fifties diner. So breakfast and lunch were at the fifties diner, and then dinner was off the main dining hall."

"My mom and I toured Freedom Village at Brandywine. We saw their independent living. We also had another tour with my wife after that. It seemed like a very well-kept facility, and everything was very clean. It's a fairly large facility compared to the other one my mom toured. It has a nice arrangement and the living spaces there, the apartments, or condominiums are very nice in size. They're definitely a larger size compared to another facility we went to, so that was very nice. They all have this part in the main room that's surrounded by windows. It was very nice as well. I haven't eaten there, but I heard the food is very good. It seems like generally there's a lot of activities that they offer every day, too. I had a good impression personally. The first time we went was not too long after the COVID lockdown ended, so there was very limited activity still due to the COVID situation. The second time we went, we didn't see activities because it was right before dinnertime, and people were getting ready to go to dinner. I think dinner started at 4:45 there and we got there at four o'clock. The activity was mostly wound down for the day. We saw the gym. They have a very nice fitness center, a saltwater swimming pool, and a hot tub that looks very nice. They had a very nice auditorium; it has a top floor that's like a dance floor. I think they show movies there, but it's kind of a multi-use facility. They had a menu posted when we were there. It looked good. It was not to my taste, but I'm much younger than the people there. I think for people that age, it seemed like a good menu."
