The Best Assisted Living Communities in Salem County, NJ

"I found the Terraces at Parke Place for my mother. I've been there three times. It was very small and quiet. I believe it only has 70 residents. It looks just like the place where my mom is in North Carolina, so I thought that was nice. Everybody seems very friendly and kind, and has answered all my questions, and has helped me figure out how I'm going to get my mother here from North Carolina, so that's been a big help. There's a salon, there's a dining room, various living rooms where groups can gather for things. It's a fireplace with a big TV above it where they show movies. It just seems like a quiet, homey place. It's close to where we live, and the Jefferson Hospital is right down the road."

"My mom has been at Chestnut Ridge for three years now. This facility is very clean. If I could afford it, I would live there myself. The rooms are very nice. My mother is in like an apartment-type room where she is able to have her own living room and bedroom and there's even a little kitchenette. They serve three meals a day plus two snacks a day. They have numerous activities. They have a wellness center there on site where they administer her medicines for her. They also have a rehab facility there. For activities, they have arts and crafts, bingo, karaoke, etc. They would take them out to go to movies or to go to casino. They would also take them out for rides or for dinners, etc."

"My visit with Greenfield Senior Living at Cross Keys was very nice. It was a bit bigger than the other place I visited and very clean. The woman who runs it seemed very on top of things. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. I liked Greenfield very much. Their dining area was very nice. It seemed adequately sized for the number of people. "

"My mother is at this facility. It's clean and homey. The staff is great and very loving. The food is great, too. The dining area has hallways, and it's like a neighborhood. They have the same people eating together, and they get to communicate and enjoy each other. They have Bingo, beanbag toss, church study group, music, and entertainment and a happy hour with wine every Friday. I've been very happy with it. Mom likes the food, and they have a menu that they can pick from. The staff members are cuddling, they give her hugs, and they seem to care. She's very happy there."

"All American at Washington Township had multiple floors and that concerned me. The apartment had two rooms and then they shared a bathroom and a common area, and I did not like that as much as having your own room. They had quite an array of activities and a lot of programs going. The staff seemed pretty congenial and pretty enthusiastic. The facility was brand new."

"Brookdale Hockessin is a smaller location, and they didn't really have as many things to offer as I saw in other places. I met with the director and he was very, very nice. I actually had several conversations with him over the phone and it was informative. It's an older building. It's very small, and they didn't have the physical activities that I thought would be appropriate for my mother. She likes to walk outside, and she likes to use gym equipment. Everyone I saw was pretty physically incapacitated. It seems very clean, and it seemed to be appropriate for the residents who were living there."

"It is a 1-floor facility. My mother has a nice room, her own bathroom, and her own living space. They have activities. I have dined there, and it's fine. They've got physical therapy and a nice television room. It has easy access."

"I was at Cardinal Village. I was very impressed with it, and I'm considering living there. They have a theater, a bingo hall, a library, a study, a gym, and a sauna. The apartments were very spacious, and the apartment that they showed me was getting painted, and getting ready for a person to move in. it was nicely painted. The lady who gave me the tour was absolutely excellent, answered all my questions, got my daughter and I something to drink, and called the next day to see if I had any questions. I was very impressed with her. They have card game night, and a board game night if you have to play Monopoly or Scrabble. I really like that every apartment has an enclosed porch, that you can go out and sit on the porch every summer, it's enclosed, and it has screen and glass. The other thing I liked is I have a pet, and I can bring my pet. That's very important to me."

"We chose The Landing of Washington Square for my mother because it's in her neighborhood, and it offered all of the services that she needed. It's a brand-new place. It's not completely staffed yet, but I've dealt with the front desk people and the two managers. There are nurses on duty every day. I dealt with every one of them and they're awesome. All of them are great. My mother has an apartment. She has a full-sized bathroom, a full-sized bedroom, a kitchen-family room sort of combination, and both are nice sized. It's a full kitchen except for a stove. I haven't had the food in a while, but my mother says she loves it. She said it's great. The Landing of Washington Square is very expensive, but all the services are there."

"My mother has moved into Springfield Crossings. She is doing very well. The staff members are awesome. We love them. She is in a newly renovated room, so it's nice. We're having some issues getting some maintenance done. As far as the facility itself, it's a bit older. It needs some work. The dining area is set up like a restaurant. I have not tried the meals, but my mother loves the food. They have lots of different activities. I think she has participated in some of them. They have bingo, music, movies, and crafts. They're right off the highway, so it's secure. It's reasonably priced."

"The Resident Care/Medical staff are excellent at this facility. The team really cares about the residents. They get to know every resident on an individual basis and will spend whatever time is necessary in discussing the needs of your loved one. The staff realizes that every resident has different needs at different times. I have total confidence in the care they provide for my mom. "

"We took a tour at Juniper Village, which only had about 45 residents. The tour guide worked there for almost 20 years, and she was very knowledgeable. It appeared that the aide attended to just about everything for each individual. It was a smaller community. We saw some activities going on. They were getting ready for arts & crafts. They used the same room for their mass for their arts & crafts. They had a Catholic community, which was important to my mom. "

"Meadowcrest at Middletown was a beautiful place. The lady was very knowledgeable, very helpful, and very nice. She knew everything that she had to know. She even gave me advice on how to get extra help. The common area was beautiful. However, they only provide you with a certain amount of meals and the rest comes out of your pocket. If I had to go in there, I wouldn't think twice, but it was just costly. It looked clean. I didn't smell anything. I saw a lot of different rooms and different activities going on, which looked good. I saw some people playing a puzzle and others just walking around and watching TV. They just do whatever they wanted to do."

"We took a tour of Juniper Village at Newark. I didn't get a complete picture of what the memory care looked like because it was quarantined due to a COVID case. The assisted living area, which is probably somewhat similar to memory care, looked pretty good. It looked like there was a lot for the people there to do, and all the areas were pretty comfortable for those staying there. It also looked clean to me. The tour guide answered all of our questions and gave us a good idea of how their facilities work, and how they take care of the people there."
