My mom was a resident of Glen Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center. Memory care is the only thing they do, which I think is wonderful, because they're all experienced in memory care. The staff, they were all wonderful. The food was good. The facility has excellent care. They were even doing some remodeling stuff. They do have a lot of activities. They do like baking activities. They do crafts. They have church. They do like Father's Day outings out in the courtyard with the fire going out in the courtyard. They do like state fair stuff, a very robust activity, that's why I'm very pleased. The staff members were very upbeat and all the patients were very comfortable. It was like a huge family. Whether you get a private room, or if you have a double room, it accommodates your privacy both ways.

- Special Comment: Our success (and the reason residents and family members alike love our communities) is due to our award-winning SPARK care program. This research-based approach is inspired by Montessori Methods and is key to providing life-changing services to residents. SPARK focuses on engagement, a social lifestyle, and inclusion within the community at large. The SPARK method is based on the teachings and research of Maria Montessori and Dr. Cameron J. Camp and is proven to significantly increase engagement, improve skills and give a sense of meaning and purpose to all despite deficits. Our communities utilize special assessment tools which go beyond traditional healthcare assessments to focus on what the person can do, rather than what they cannot. SPARK places ultimate focus on supporting our residents’ ideas, choices, and independence. We empower residents to create a community that speaks to them. Our staff foster the natural spark within each individual by encouraging new ideas and helping to make these ideas a reality.

We went to Glen Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center. They are private pay only. They do not accept insurance, but they do accept VA. They range from just early stages of dementia all the way to the end stages, which is amazing because there are a lot of places that won't do that. There wasn't anything bad about the community other than it being expensive, but with the level of care and the amount that they pay their employees to make sure they have the utmost experienced employees to be around and caring for some of the most vulnerable in our society is amazing. They keep the residents busy all day, every day, make sure that they're getting their brains moving and keeping them active instead of letting them just kind of stagnate in their room. They encourage group activity. They provide meals. They assist with feeding, dressing, incontinence care, and anything that they may need. From what I saw, the staff is very, very kind and patient with the residents. The director was very nice. There were very few questions that we had to ask because he covered everything with his breakdown. They have quite a few food options and they have it set up so that they have an all-day menu, which is available anytime, day or night. If one of the residents gets up in the middle of the night and says that they want a yogurt or a cheeseburger, it is available 24/7. They have three meals a day and three snacks and from what I saw, the options looked pretty good. They have pretty diverse options, which is nice. It was very clean. It smelled pleasant in there. They take pride in the cleanliness and just the atmosphere of the facility. It was really surprising because they have a couple of cats that live there. They have one of their nurses who brings in their dog.

My father was at Glen Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center for 20 days and passed away. It was fabulous. He got COVID a week ago and that pretty much was our problem. I couldn't have asked for a better place. It was wonderful. He went in and just fit right in with everybody. He could communicate with people that were basically about the same as him and they had activities that he would go to. He played bingo, he played balloon basketball, and they would have film-type things like national parks and history. The meals were great. He had snacks three times a day. He had a private room at that time and then he did get a roommate later on, but then he got COVID and nobody ever knows where they get it from. He went downhill and of course, being 99 years old, he enjoyed the last two-and-a-half weeks of his life.

My dad moved into Glen Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center. First off, their staff there is fabulous. They've been very helpful. They had to do an emergency intake on my dad from the hospital to the care center. It was a Saturday, they stepped up, and they did it. I was so grateful for that. I just love the atmosphere at the place. It's warm and friendly. All of the employees so far have just been wonderful. The facility is great. It's warm and cozy. The residents are free to walk around. They have a big hallway that goes in a circle, and they can just walk around. Everybody is out in the hallway and not stuck in a bedroom. It's like a home. They have a beauty salon and barbershop. One thing I like is they follow the Spark program, which is a Montessori-based program to get their residents involved in everyday life of the community. If somebody likes to make a bed, then the resident can help make the beds. If somebody likes to clean up after lunch and clean up the table, then they are allowed to do that for the whole community. So I like that aspect of it.

Glen Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center was very nice, but the downfall for me for that one was the price. it's specifically memory care, which I like; at the same time, the costs were significantly higher than the others. The staff seemed very friendly. They knew the residents. I liked that they specialized in the Alzheimer's care. The facility was nice and well kept. The staff knew the residents, and they interacted with them. They had a little activity room. The residents could be out of their rooms, and they had outdoor space that was nice.

Glen Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center was my second choice because I really thought it was a great place. The rooms were very nice with very pleasant atmosphere. The staff was great and very willing to help in any way. They had quite a few activities going on while I was there. The dining room looked very nice. I was really happy with this place.

Glen Oaks seemed like a good community and had good activities. My husband didn't have any complaints about them. His room was always neat and clean. The staff was good. The financial manager, Kristen, always had a big smile. The boy named Troy was always very accommodating. I've eaten there with him and the food looked good. They had cafeteria style. They also had entertainment. Children would come in to dance. They had TV, checkers, but I didn't see any people watching or doing checkers. I didn't see anybody play the piano. I didn't see any one sitting around the fireplace. Mostly would watch TV or be in their wheelchairs, kind of huddle around and hang close to the door. They wanted out.
