"We went to Galena Stauss Nursing Home because Dad decided he needed nursing care instead of assisted living. We were with several members of the staff today, and they sat down and talked to him like he was their friend. It was very clean. He has a room with a window and a lot of natural lighting. We're hoping that he'd be quite satisfied in there. "

"I found this place to be a caring place with a good environment. Even though I would probably not consider it for lack of activities. I am looking for a place that offers cleanliness, helpful staff and a good deal of activities including meals. This place was in my opinion, adequate but not for my parents. I will say that the staff seemed interested in the well being of the tenants though. I visited this facility because one of the guests at the restaurant that I work is a resident there. He seemed very happy there. The cost was very low and that surprised me. I will continue to seek out assisted living facilities for them. There is no urgency at this time but I feel that the time will be coming soon that they have to consider a facility due to their medical needs. One of my parents has diabetes and the other has arthritis which is getting progressively worse. I did like this facility becaus eit is close to the hospital and clinic. There are a couple of restaurants in town and I'm told a bus picks the tenants up certain days of the week and takes them shopping. The town is also pretty safe. I did not like the fact that this facility is on a sort of hill though. "

"I've both visited and referred clients to Our House, which is a 16-bed community-based residential facility (what most people think of as assisted living). It's on the edge of town, which makes it convenient to families who live in Platteville, and--because it's in a rural area--it's comforting to residents who have always lived in the country. Pros: - It's a relatively new, well-maintained building, with a nice layout. There's a community room in the middle, with the residents' rooms around the perimeter of the square. - The care staff is very good. The director, an RN, has been there a long time--a real plus. And all of the staff receive a lot of continuing education. - A psychiatrist makes regular rounds. - They have a good activities program, with lots of variety. Cons: - They only take early stage dementia residents, so it's likely that anyone with dementia will have to leave once the disease progresses. - They're usually full, so there's limited availability to new residents. "

"Dad is in River Bend Retirement Community. When you went into the memory unit itself, each of the individual rooms, they put different siding on them to make it look like they're a different house. Everyone's house looks different from the outside, or their room looks different from the outside. The common area in the middle had 30 foot ceilings in them. They were painted blue and white to look like clouds. So, the whole place was just open and bright. They had their different seating area. There was a kind of stone fireplace that kind of went up through the middle. And I'm saying fireplace loosely because I can't believe they'd actually have a fireplace on that, in the memory unit part thing, it's just the looks of it. So it just made it look homey. They had couches and stuff sitting around that area. They had a different section where they could go into, in my view, a big walk-in closet with the couch in there. And there were pictures of the animals on the walls and stuff like that. And they said they use that when somebody is getting agitated or something. As far as one lady, for example at 3:00, she always had to worry about getting her kids on the bus. And so then they'd take her in there and then they'd distract her by talking about the animals. And like, "I lived on a farm. Did you live on a farm? Did you have any pets," that type of thing, and that seemed to get the lady past that. And just very helpful, very knowledgeable."

"We visited Morningside Assisted Living in Lancaster, Wisconsin. We would have liked to get my mom in there, but they were full. That is the homiest place and because it's out in the country and the city limits, every window has a beautiful view. The rooms were maybe slightly larger than the one my mom is currently in and it was just so beautifully decorated. They also do tons of activities for everyone. As far as how it looked, that was the best place ever. It just didn't even seem like a place for the elderly. I could have moved in there and just been comfortable. They had many places outside for the residents to go sit in and do tons of activities. The staff seemed equally as nice too. If we could have put my mom at Morningside, we would have. It was closer and it was just beautiful. I would recommend it to anybody if they could get in there and place their parents. It was just a nice place. I was originally from Lancaster, so my mom would have known quite a few of the people of the clients that were in placement there, which would have been a really neat thing. I think their clientele is a little less severe than where my mom is right now. They just made it a nice place. They have a room where they just watch a football game and then they have drinks on a Friday night. They just make it a really fun place. You could also tell it had good maintenance because there was nothing wrong with it, it was just a beautiful place."

"My mother resided at the Shullsburg Home for a short time. They had been recommended to me by a friend whose mother had resided there. Mom only left because of a continued decline in her health. We were so happy with the staff and environment during her time there. The staff is caring, conscientious, and, in her case, on top of changes that were taking place with her health so that we could seek appropriate medical treatment. The manager Theresa is wonderful, a very positive attitude, and knowledgeable about services in the area that might benefit their residents. The food was good, and the staff quickly learned Mom's likes and dislikes. Very clean, as well. The appearance of the living areas might be a bit outdated, but it is very homelike, comfortable, and doesn't strike you as what can sometimes be a sterile institutional environment; it truly is a home. The fees were very reasonable for the services provided. It was a very good experience along the way as we continued on our journey with Mom's declining health. "

"It is so refreshing to know there are still personal care facilities that prioritize patient’s needs. This is one such facility. My dad, unfortunately never made it to the facility as his health quickly deteriorated and he passed the day he was supposed to move in. However, more than enough dealings with the facility transpired prior to his move in date that I am very qualified to give a fair and honest review of the facility and the staff. There was a lot of uncertainty about my dad’s prognosis as he had fallen at a different facility and sustained multiple fractures. When other facilities were looking for reasons to not accept my dad, Grandview had a “can do” attitude and welcomed the challenges that my dad’s care would present. From the minute I walked into the facility for an unannounced visit, the staff was friendly, courteous and professional and the facility was clean, pleasant smelling and well maintained. And much to my surprise it was very affordably priced compared to comparable facilities. Because of my dad’s condition there were a lot of moving parts when considering his transfer and everyone we spoke with from the owner, to Becca (head of admissions) to the nursing staff were continually flexible and willing to do anything they could to make his transition as pleasant as possible. With his condition seemingly changing hourly and with this occurring over Christmas it was nothing short of incredible at how helpful and understanding they were with all of our changing needs. And if all of that wasn’t appreciated enough by my family, they gave us a refund for the money we paid in advance of his move. You never want to lose a parent but I wanted so much for my dad to experience what I saw in the facility and the staff. There is no doubt in my mind that he would have received superior attention and care. Unfortunately, I learned first-hand how inattentive, uncaring and flat out neglectful staffs were at other facilities. With care of your loved one being priority one I feel VERY comfortable recommending this facility to ANYONE who requires loving and professional care and attention for their loved one. I have no affiliation with this facility and I didn’t even know they existed 3 weeks ago but with so many bad ones out there I wanted to make sure this good one got recognized. If I could give more that 5 stars I would. "
