My mother moved into Sunset Park Place. We really like it there; it's a great place. The food is very good and she enjoys it. I have had it, as well, and it is very tasty. She has a one-bedroom that is very clean. They have a significant number of activities that she can participate in. She really enjoys being able to go out of the building. Sometimes they take them out to eat, and she really enjoys doing that. They do a great job with communication.

We're planning to move my mom to Sunset Park Place. We met with Shelly, she was great, she showed us around, and explained everything. We've seen two of the one bedrooms, the smaller one and the deluxe, and they were very nice. At the time we went, a lot of the residents were going to lunch. We didn't have a meal there, but it looked very good, and the dining area looked really nice as well. We've seen the laundry room, we've seen the activity room, where the church is held, and there's also a craft room. I think she covered pretty much all of the different rooms. The place was very clean, it was very nice, and felt very homey. They also have a van that they use to take people to doctors' appointments and stuff like that if we need it. The outdoors seemed very plentiful, they have a spot that's like a little garden place for people to plant tomatoes and stuff.

We are in the process of moving into a townhouse at Sunset Park Place. We chose it because they had a townhouse that we really liked that was available. Erica was wonderful. There are two parts to it. The townhouses are separate from the main building where they have independent living and assisted living. That building is very nice. We've heard so many wonderful comments about it. We didn't spend a whole lot of time there because we were really interested in the townhouse itself. As for the townhouse, it's a different thing if you actually live in the big building. It's across the street from a high school. That kind of bothers me, but other than that, Dubuque is not that big of a town, and it's pretty centrally located. I know there's an exercise class that I can join in the main building. The townhouse that we're moving into has a two bedrooms, a bath and a half, a sunroom, a kitchen, a living room, and a laundry room, and it has a full basement.

I didn't like Sunset Park Place at all. The reason for that is because the memory care unit is in the basement with all the mechanicals, like the washer and dryer, the water heater, the water softener. It was like they were living in a basement. And they had a dog there. They all just stay in that one little part of the building, that basement part of the building. They have a place in there where they have a living room area, and then there was a dining room table. It was a locked area, and they only can get out of there if they have a staff member go with them. I didn't like the way they were stuck in the basement, like a bunch of lower-class citizens or something. So that one was off my list right away. The lady that gave us the tour was very nice and very helpful. She said that they would, now and then, take them out to lunch or shopping to get them out of the building. I think she said there was one staff per resident when they did that, otherwise, the ratio was like 3:1. Out in the front of the building, there was a little place where they could sit, but it was almost right along the front of the parking lot. And the memory care people couldn't go out there at all.

We went through the whole place at Sunset Park Place. We saw where the dining room was if my husband was able to come down for a meal. They had activities. Everything was neat and orderly, and you could tell that it was a real system. The staff there was really wonderful. You just have to furnish the room, but we're sixty miles away, and that bothered me.

When I was at Sunset Park Place they weren't having the residents wear masks around each other, and my children are healthcare workers, and they said that's not good. They allowed me to go into one of the rooms that they had that was empty, but I wasn't really keen on the residents not wearing the masks when they're out of their room. The room was very nice, and I've looked there before, the staff was very nice. Everybody seemed very happy, except they were to close together without masks. Their studio apartments, they don't have anything in them, we wanted to have a bit of a countertop, and a place for a microwave. I was very pleased with the knowledge the girl gave during the tour.

Sunset Park Place is very nice and we're happy with it. The room my mom is in is very nice. The staff is very helpful and from day one they were very good. The food is very good and excellent. They offer side trips to restaurants, casinos, and different places.

Sunset Park Place was not bad, but it was pricier than I expected. The staff was fine. They had bingo and large common areas. The place was modern, new, and spacious.

I visited Sunset Park. However, It did not have an Alzheimer’s unit, it’s right next to a very busy street, and my brother loves to go out for a walk. The staff was very personable, and she gave us a package of lovely things.

Sunset Park Place is only 3 blocks from our house. I was most impressed with it because of the size of the apartments, the amount of storage, and size of the closet, the kitchen facilities, and the assisted living.

Sunset Park Place was smaller and seemed more like home than other places. My loved one's pendant GPS was included in the rent, and she wanted her main meal at lunchtime seven days a week. The thing she really likes about this place is she that has an independent apartment. Should she need assisted living in the future, she would be able to stay in that apartment and wouldn't have to move, unlike in other places where she would have to move into another wing of the complex. They have a salon, two or three activities every day, mass once a week, and a tech man to help with computers. The biggest thing is the GPS, so they would be able to find her should anything happen to her within the complex. They're very accommodating, too.

I visited Sunset Park. They were absolutely wonderful. I met with the gentleman. He was very helpful showing me around, explaining the activities, and what have you there. It would have been a very good place, but my brother-in-law was not really in for it right now.

The apartments were very nice, and the atmosphere was excellent. Sunset Park Place was a very nice place with a lot of wonderful activities going on and very pleasant staff. They had a good variety of food, and they had a salad bar. The dining rooms were very pleasant and clean. I was impressed most with the activities and how the staff interacted with the residents.

I was surprised to see the size of the apartments at Sunset Park Place. They were big, but it has been there quite a few years, and it seemed like it needed some refreshing. They seemed to do everything in one big room, which I did not find very comforting. The dining room was OK. The staff was fine. They answered all my questions.

I walked out of Sunset Park Place and said my mother-in-law is never going to stay there. Nobody related to me is staying in a place like that. Right away, we knew we didn't like this place because they had staff standing outside the front door smoking cigarettes. It just wasn't a very comfortable feeling. Sunset Park Place was much less expensive, and on the surface, it appeared to have many amenities, but when you dug down a little bit, they weren't as available as you like. Also, it didn't appear to be well organized. Everything was cheap. The woman who gave us a tour was frazzled, not dressed professionally, and not especially knowledgeable.

Our next door neighbor was recently diagnosed with cancer and decided to move closer to her son in Dubuque, Iowa. Being elderly she needed help and many at our church decided to volunteer this past weekend and help move her. She moved into a town house on the estate, but she was given a full tour which included the assisted living/independent living complex. While the amenities were fairly normal, restaurant style meal, nursing staff, laundry and cleaning services. Overall, the facility was well-designed. It was beautifully built and had nice woodwork inside. One of the nice things I noticed was that because of the layout, the whole community can move around pretty easily, there are very few stairs and people move around quite a bit as there seems to be a good sense of community as while we were there many people came to see her as we moved her in and many people also came and saw us as we went on the tour. It was nice to see people being social and curious about new neighbors.

This facility took excellent care of my Grandmother after her accident. The staff was always there to answer any questions, and make her comfortable. The grounds were nicely kept, and always clean. The outdoor seating area was beautiful, especially the garden that they had for the residents and their families to tend. Very friendly and nice all the way around! My grandmother was able to go home after a very short stay due to the great rehabilitation programs that they have, including the jacuzi tub therapy. If there is ever a need for any family member to recieve rehab services we are going to be sure to look into this facility before any others here in town. Very courteous staff that went above and beyond expectaions on a daily basis! In this day and age it is hard to find the kind of compassion and zest for life that the staff here has shown. I would deffinately reccommend this facility to any of my friends and neighbors that may be i nneed of assisted living and or rehab services.
