My mother resided at the Shullsburg Home for a short time. They had been recommended to me by a friend whose mother had resided there. Mom only left because of a continued decline in her health. We were so happy with the staff and environment during her time there. The staff is caring, conscientious, and, in her case, on top of changes that were taking place with her health so that we could seek appropriate medical treatment. The manager Theresa is wonderful, a very positive attitude, and knowledgeable about services in the area that might benefit their residents. The food was good, and the staff quickly learned Mom's likes and dislikes. Very clean, as well. The appearance of the living areas might be a bit outdated, but it is very homelike, comfortable, and doesn't strike you as what can sometimes be a sterile institutional environment; it truly is a home. The fees were very reasonable for the services provided. It was a very good experience along the way as we continued on our journey with Mom's declining health.

The Shullsburg Home offers a home like environment for it's residents. Although the decor of the home is outdated it is very familiar to many residents as they are mostly older in age and come from the Shullsburg area. They are doing some updating to the home to keep it as modern as can be without having to raise the rates too much for the residents. The cost of this facility is lower than many of it's kind but this is not reflected in the service that the residents receive. The manager of the home is a great advocate for the residents, and makes sure that all of the medical, nutritional and social needs are met for each individual. The other staff that are present also provide individualized care to the residents and make them all feel at home while making sure that they are safe. All staff work with outside agencies very well to have services coordinated to make sure that each resident get everything that is needed and available to them to make their quality of life as high as possible. Social events are offered to each resident to keep this are of their lives active and keep them connected to activities and the community that they value. The most negative comments that are received about the home are from some residents that would prefer to be in their own homes but cannot take care of themselves any longer. The complaints that they make are geared more towards not liking the Shullsburg Home as much as they like their own homes. Families continue to comment on the quality of care that their family members receive, stating that the care is wonderful and the staff make a family and not just a sterile environment which makes their loved ones feel at home and safe. I would recommend the Shullsburg Home for quality care.
