My uncle is at Arcadia Care of Morris. He was discharged from the hospital and transferred over there for OT, PT, and respiratory therapy. At first, it was fine. When he was in the hospital, he was being treated for C. diff, and when he was transferred over to Arcadia, he was still on antibiotics. He completed those antibiotics while he was still doing OT and PT, so they had to do it in his room because of the C. Diff. He couldn't be outside the room, and he had restrictions. We were okay with that, and we understood that. They were monitoring his diet and everything else. However, Medicare Advantage then just said that they're done and not paying anymore, and things started going downhill from there, as far as my opinion of Arcadia. They told my uncle that he had to be out on Christmas Day, which was impossible because he had nowhere to go. At that point, that's when he started getting charged per diem. Another thing was that he was recovering from the C. diff and was having little victories because he didn't have diarrhea anymore but they served him pizza, and he went right back to diarrhea and everything else. I thought about what they were thinking. He was recovering from diarrhea, so the last thing he needed was spicy and acidic food. All they had for him for a restricted diet was low-sodium food because he also has a cardiac condition. He was complaining about how bland the food was, so they gave him pizza, and that sent him back. I would have to admit, despite the issues that I have with them, my uncle's room is cleaned. Going from the lobby to his room, which is pretty far, I didn't smell anything funky or anything like that. The building itself is clean, so kudos to their housekeeping crew. The other staff members and the CNAs are friendly, too. They always give a smile and a good morning or good afternoon, so there are no complaints there. However, when I actually had to deal with my uncle's nursing staff, I was not impressed at all. Yesterday, I called and left three voicemails to try and find out my uncle's billing and treatment and there were no callbacks from them. I'm going out there today to try and get to the bottom of this. I even went through his primary physician to see if we could get a direct admission into the hospital to get my uncle out of there and get proper treatment and proper billing. I don't know if they are billing him correctly, and I can't get a straight answer, so that concerns me a lot. I also called to find out about his vitals, I got no callback, so I do not have a high opinion of them at all right now. The building itself is clean, but according to my uncle, the food is terrible. I understand that his diet is low-sodium, but he also says the food is served cold, so they don't keep the food warm. They could have at least served it warm.

My husband stayed in Arcadia Care Morris. He was there from the 10th to the 30th. For the first 10 days, our insurance was covered. For the next 10, I had to write two appeals. They were going to charge me $400 a room for him to stay on the therapy side, and then it was like $300 to be in the nursing home side. The nursing home side was dirty. It smelled. I couldn't wait to get him out of there. It was awful. One side is rehab, which was fine, clean, and nice because the people were just there for therapy. The nursing home side is in the same building, but it was unacceptable. I do think that their meals were pretty good. They pretty much kept track because he was diabetic. Their kitchen did a good job in selecting food and changing out things for my husband, so that was good. If you took him out in the wheelchair, there were just some sidewalks. There was a patio with grass as high as your hips. I didn't see anybody take advantage of that other than a couple of workers who would go out there and smoke, but other than that, there was no patio where the people could go out and sit and enjoy. It had a fence around it where the people would be safe, but nobody cut the grass, pulled the weeds, or did anything with it. There was no shade in the front. The building itself looked fine. The building from the outside was brick, and it looked really nice, but once you went inside, the housekeeping, I would give them a one at best. The floors were not even clean, but I did notice their housekeeping was like a couple of young girls. They've got to have somebody a little bit older. They could have wiped the floors up nicely. He didn't participate, but I'm sure they did have things because they had Elvis one afternoon. So, in that department, they did pretty well. Their therapists, both were wonderful, but they were leaving the same week. So, both therapists were going somewhere else. Arcadia is awful. I didn't choose it. It was kind of chosen by the hospital.
