What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Lake Joy offers a minimum of 8 hours of Dementia Training annually.
Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at The Phoenix at Lake Joy. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?
The average age of our Residents is 65. Our Residents favorite things to do is go are going on outings, enjoying a glass of wine/beer at our bar, playing bingo, bidding at our peanut auctions, and having fun getting exercise with Music and Movement.
What programs or activities does The Phoenix at Lake Joy offer to enrich residents' well-being?
There are a variety of activities offered daily to keep residents engaged. Our programming is based on the 6 dimensions of wellness (Cognitive, Emotional, Spiritual, Physical, Social & Occupational) and therefore we offer a minimum of 6-7 activities every day of the week (Even on the weekends) that encompass these dimensions.
What places are near The Phoenix at Lake Joy or within walking distance for assisted living residents to enjoy?
Lake Joy is located in a mostly residential area, surrounded by neighborhoods. We are close to a Fire Station and also a local Elementary School.
What transportation services does The Phoenix at Lake Joy offer to assisted living residents?
Lake Joy offers transportation within a 10 mile radius to doctor's appointments every Thursday. We also offer transportation to outings weekly including outings to restaurants and activities.
What makes the chef or dining program at The Phoenix at Lake Joy exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
Lake Joy has a dietician planned menu that is carb consistent. The Dining Director also meets with our residents weekly as a part of our Recipe Club to get their feedback on meal planning suggestions.
What safety features or security measures does The Phoenix at Lake Joy offer to assisted living residents?
Lake Joy has a nursing call system in place on our Assisted Living side. Each resident bathroom is also equipped with a safety pullcord should additional assistance be required by our Care team. Lake Joy provides sensors on all doors and locks with codes to exit or enter the facility.
How does The Phoenix at Lake Joy keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
Lake Joy meets with families and our residents every 6 months to discuss plans for care for their loved one. Directors are also always readily available to provide updates to family when visiting the building.
What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at The Phoenix at Lake Joy during daytime and nighttime hours?
Lake Joy staffs 1 Caregiver and 1 Medication Technician during daytime hours. During nighttime hours, the Medication Technician normally covers the building and 1 Caregiver is still assigned.
If The Phoenix at Lake Joy accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
Lake Joy's Assisted Living side is pet friendly. The only area that we asked for pets not to be brought into is our Dining Room.

All staff is required to attend an orientation at the beginning of employment to a variety of topics including providing assistance to both our Assisted Living and Memory Care population.

Lake Joy staffs 2 Caregivers and 1 Medication Technician during daytime hours. During nighttime hours, the Medication Technician normally covers the building and 1 Caregiver is still assigned.

Lake Joy has sensors on exterior doors to notify our Caregivers of use within the community on our Nursecall system.

Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
An assessment is completed every 3 months or when a resident has a change of condition. The assessment that is completed utilizes input from the caregivers and families to assist the staff with providing the appropriate assistance with activities of daily living. We include families in the care planning process to ensure that all of the needs of our residents are met.
What techniques does The Phoenix at Lake Joy use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Lake Joy provides education to the employees about specialized diets. The dining experience is unique in that we have family style dining for our Memory Care residents. This environment allows residents to interact with each other and encourages them to eat. Staff are present during all meal times to monitor the residents and provide support to the residents that need it.

The Phoenix at Lake Joy is located near several restaurants, Walmart, CVS, the mall, and churches of all denominations. None, however, are within walking distance unfortunately since we are more in a residential type neighborhood. We are close to a Fire Station and also a local Elementary School.
Is The Phoenix at Lake Joy affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
Lake Joy does have 3 hospitals within 20 minutes of the community. Families are able to make a decision upon move-in about which hospital they'd like their love one to utilize.
