I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I was so pleased. We were in need of an unexpected immediate situation where we needed to find a place short-term for my 95 year old Dad. Franca, the owner, went above and beyond to help us make it work. My dad was absolutely thrilled, he LOVED the meals and the caring staff (TT and Terry) that really focused on his care, making sure he was safely moving around, and connecting with the other residents. Honestly, I hadn't seen my father so happy because he was so well taken care of. I loved how close of attention they gave him and his needs - but also listened to what he wanted and would make him comfortable. The residents were sweet and welcoming, too.

My uncle is in Heather House. It's a personal care home, and we chose it because he liked it more than some of the other places we visited. It's assisted, and I have nothing negative to say. The owner/operator is very friendly, and you can tell she cares about what she's doing. He said the food is OK. They're still recovering from COVID restrictions. They have had activities in the past, but they have not restarted them yet. It's a nice, homey house. It's not anything extremely fancy, but it's comfortable and well maintained for the age of the house. It's not pristine, but it's nice and comfortable. I think that's why my uncle liked it, actually.

We chose Heather House for my son because we found it to be very clean, and well-appointed with furnishings. It had a nice yard, screened porch, and the lady who run the place was very good. We liked it, and we liked the area it was in. He's in a difficult age group, so he's not really happy where he is. He's very satisfied with the food.

Provider Response

Thanks for your sincere review. It is our belief, that with time he will find it overall a happier and beneficial environment to be.

My father-in-law moved into Heather House. It's great, the owner seemed to be very caring, and is involved with the day-to-day running of the facility. They have a couple of really good and great caretakers. It's an older place, the grounds are nice, it's nice, wooded, and really relaxing. The inside is pretty nice for the most part, the rooms are a little dingy, but it's well-maintained. The food is fine, though I think they serve some processed food occasionally. They had a very nice Thanksgiving party, but I don't think they've done anything else with him.

Heather House has changed hands recently. The new owners are trying to get adjusted so the old owners actually stayed on for a period of time to help in the transition. The biggest change we have right now is that caregivers are starting to quit. Therefore, we have that concern. People that came to be replacing them are not of not education or quality that the other ones were. My understanding is they actually have somebody living there now that's supposed to be the caregiver. At the last place where we're at when they did that the care actually decreased because they decided she can’t handle everything. I understand food is starting to change as well. When your personnel change of course your cook change and therefore the way the food is prepared is different and I don’t know if it’s changing for the better. They have recently lost their activity director so there's not any activity going on the house which also is a concern because it allows people to just sit in front of the TV so they deteriorate. That's actually one reason why we moved to that house. As far as moving into a personal care home it’s more of the activities that come with that facility.

Provider Response

Hello Kathy, Thank you for your comments. I will like to address and clarify the points that you have brought up. In regards to the staff, Every caregiver we hire are certified care givers. The change in staff you are referring to is not a matter of previous caregivers quitting but rather management deciding to hire more compassionate, consistent and reliable caregivers. Addressing your concern about activities a new activity director has been in place for over one month. With this new director residents are not simply continuing old activities but intact are engaging in more activities than previously were. Regarding your comments on meals and meal preparation, you are correct in stating that the food is starting to change. These are all positive changes. As new management one of our top priorities was to make a greater push for more nutritional meals. which include more servings of vegetables, fruit and home made meals. We understand that when there is change in management concerns such as these will be brought up. We assure you that our top priorities is to Love and serve our residents and their families. Thanks for taking time to leave a comment.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I work with Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients and have been in every facility around Alpharetta so I’m very comfortable with Heather House. I don’t have to worry because that's my biggest fear. I know Mom is being taken care of. That's the most important because if I go out of town I'm always thinking that “I hope she's always being taken cared for, I hope she's okay". And I know she is. Heather House is a beautiful home. It’s a huge home with a beautiful backyard. It’s magnificent with lots of acre where the residents can walk. It's clean and every time I go there everybody is being taken care of. There's nobody that needs something. It seems like everybody is happy. I haven't heard any complaints from people that are living there. The staff is great. I get along with everybody and they know I am in the field so when I walk in there I’m looking around to see what’s wrong. They're always upgrading so that’s what’s important. They have a little dining room where they have breakfast, lunch and dinner and my mother is very happy with the food. She says that they have good cook there. I've eaten there several times. Their meatloaf is awesome. Their soups are great too. They have a menu on the wall that they go by and everything is fresh. They do a lot with people who are in there. They're playing bingo, I've seen them painting flower pots and putting plants in it, here’s a church that comes in for Bible Study and a dog that comes every week for pet therapy. I was there when they baked banana bread too I think it’s great for what we're paying. I wouldn't put my mother anywhere else. We're happy with it, that's all I can say.

Mom is getting very good care at Heather House. She has Alzheimer’s, needs a lot of assistance and they're just exceptionally good with her. The other ladies just really care for her too. They're always looking out for her and letting me know different things that go on. Every once in a while there's a complaint and they listen to it. I've had to deal with the lady who works there who wasn't exceptionally been very nice to my mom. My mom needs extra assistance so I just let it be known to the owner and she said she would definitely speak to her about it. The owner is extremely loving and kind to the ladies. Just recently, my mom had fallen and she hit her head and shoulder. They called me and they go ahead and sent her to the ER. My brother and I met her up there. She didn’t have anything broken but we took her back to Heather House and just talk to the people there on how she was in pain and just about being extra careful with her (and they were). If I had anything I need, I'll just call or text the owner anytime. A lot of times she lets me know and sends a picture. She'll say “Look at mom this morning". It’s so sweet because a lot of times Mom stays awake at night and sleeps during the day with her Alzheimer’s. Mom seems to enjoy the food. I think it’s pretty good. There were a lot of times that smelled good. Sometimes it’s just basic, sandwiches and soup but other times they'll do fruits and salad. Right now, the activities are very lax. They have some ladies from the church once a week. There was a lady who was working there and she ended up leaving after the ownership changed because she's pursuing another avenue. I think it will improve again but right now they don’t have an activity coordinator so they're not doing a lot in that thing. But they were having so much activity and it was real special. They really take very good care of the residents there.

Provider Response

Hello Kyle, Thanks for taking time to leave a review. A new activity director has recently been hired. Meaning that there has been an increase in daily activities. Some of the activities include but not limited to: Visiting musicians, Bingo, Canine Therapy and other various out door activities.
