I was in search of relocating my mom, from another site and called Ms. Susan to see if there were any beds for long term in three days we were Blessed to move mother in... The cleanest I have ever seen, and the food smelled amazing. The staff was very nice.

My mom needs skilled nursing so she went to Specialty Health and Rehabilitation Center. They're a very fine group and a loving group, they're very caring. She's done well from the time that she's been there. We chose it because it was available and had an opening, and they're top of the line. They've been very good to her, very helpful, very personable, and up to us, and kept us informed. That means a lot. Just in her reaction, she likes the food, so that's OK with me. They offer quite a bit of activities, but she can't participate yet as much as she would like to or could. They help each one with their individual lives and work with each person. Their facilities are clean, their beds are comfortable, and the place is kept clean. They're attentive.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Both my friend and his wife had been in at Specialty Health and Rehabilitation Center (though not at the same time). She was in there about one time and another time and then one time for about three years, and then he was in there for just about three months for rehab. They seemed good, but they didn't come when the patient asked to go to the bathroom. They're not as prompt as they ought to be. They had some nice nurses there. The facility needs some repairs outside and that's something I noticed just going into the facility. They might do a little bit more maintenance out. They got a lock-in system, which is good. The doors lock when you go in and it's right on the road, so that keeps anybody from the memory unit (if they got out of their mind) going out without somebody knowing. Most of the time, the facility looked clean, but a few times I went in there, they had people that had vomited and the people were just standing around. They had not cleaned it up, and they weren't doing anything. I didn't like that. They helped my lady friend pretty well. My male friend did not stay as a nursing home patient, he stayed as a rehab patient, getting over surgery to try to help him learn to walk, which they did a good job of. The physical therapy was good for both clients. They had some good staff. There were just a few that didn't come when they were called. They seemed to like the facility alright. The location is good and it seemed like they had activities for them, so that was good. The rooms looked clean.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend is a quadriplegic and is very dependent on his electric wheelchair. That is his way to be somewhat independent. They accused him of running over a staff persons foot as he was backing up. They punished him by taking his personally owned chair away. He cannot get up and get in the chair without help so why take it out of his room. I rated one star because the kitchen staff has tried to provide food he can eat. Some staff are nice and helpful while others need to find a different job. Some staff are very rude.

I have a friend who is in this facility currently. He is a quadriplegic and cannot get up or move around without the help of a wheelchair. They are not taking good care of him at all. They have taken his wheelchair and moved it in a room where it’s locked up. He has had to ask several times for different things and it’s not right. There has been other things that are screwed up. Don’t ever put your loved one there.

My mother is in the Specialty Health and Rehabilitation Center. She needed nursing home care. She's been there now for maybe two months. It was the only one that had a bed at that time. We needed to apply for Medicaid because she needed that extra financial assistance. They helped us with Medicaid. They just seem to be very nice people. The layout of the building seems to be nice, and it seems to be clean. They have a beauty salon. They have a dining hall, and they have activities there. They were playing bingo the other day, and they had a preacher come in and speak. My mom says the food is awful.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father in law was a long term patient at this facility. The care of the staff as he was passing, there are not words to thank them for all they did. Everyone from the dietary department to the Nurse Practitioner. He was in this facility approximately for 4 years. He was first admitted as a short term rehab patient and when he was at the point where he no longer could be home by himself we looked at Specialty for Long Term Care. While there if we had any questions or concerns they were always addressed. Again, my family and I thank the facility for all their kindness and care they showed.

My grandmother was in this facility. The nursing staff was sub par. They were not attentive to the patients needs. It appears as though they are understaffed and the level of care shows it. Some of the staff members were catch saying inappropriate comments about the patients living there. My advise would be to follow your gut and know your family member. You have to stay on them to get any results.

I am/was a resident of this facility

At the end of my stay I noticed the majority of my clothes were missing. I did inquire and was told they were lost. That really upset me. I told them either to find them or reimburse me. One pair of fairly new pants, a bra and one pair if shorts. I was given a gift card that will definitely not cover the cost. Very upset and disappointed. Won't be back.

I visited this facility

I visited my grandmother last night. She is terminally ill and will never see her again. The nursing staff Was wonderful with her. I could see the bond between her and Denise, she treated her so sweet. I felt releaved Knowing she was in good hands with the staff there. I worked as a nurses aid many years ago and know how Difficult it is to see the patients health decline and residence with no company. Satisfied granddaughter. Love you always Mim until we meet again.

I visited this facility

I am the daughter of a resident who died recently at Baptist Hospital. when I first visited the facility, I thought it was an ok facility, however, my mother stop eating and stop participating in bingo which she loved. The doctors treated her for pneumonia without thoroughly testing her for the cause of not eating and losing weight. when she finally went to the hospital , it was too late . she die within two weeks from cancer. Be sure to insist on the doctors checking them out on a yearly basis

The staff here does not take good care of the patients. They don't check on them often and don't look at their records to see if they are diabetic or have special food needs. I would never send anyone here.

My mother is now at Specialty Health and Rehabilitation Center. It seems to be pretty good. Sometimes, the caregivers take a little while to get to her, and she ends up going in her underwear, but they come and they change it. They seem to be doing well. The food is good, and I was amazed.

My dad was in a nursing home at Specialty Center of Pensacola. I did not like it at all. I would not recommend it to my worst enemy. It was not a good experience. They need to improve on everything. It smelled when you went in the door. I did not like the staff. My mother went every single day, and if she didn’t, we couldn’t have left my dad there alone.

My aunt is at Specialty Center of Pensacola. She has been pleased with the food. It is a different type of facility than assisted living. Her first roommate was a little difficult. The second roommate that she has gotten has been wonderful and they got along great together. They have a calendar with activities, but when you’re in a rehab, you’re not really doing a lot of extra activities. Overall, I’m satisfied with this place.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My father-in-law has been at Specialty Center on three different occasions. The first time, he had a brain stem stroke. If not for the nurses and therapy staff at Specialty he never would have returned home. When he left the facility he could not only care for himself but was very active. A few years later he was back in the hospital and needed rehab, We knew immediately where we wanted him to go. I could not ask for better care. This was a very difficult time for us and the staff went above and beyond to make my family a part of his care and his recovery. Thank you to all the employees of Specialty Center.

Be wary of Specialty Care Center of Pensacola. My grandmother fell and broke her femur. She is 89 years old. She had surgery to repair the break and was discharged after a week in the hospital to Specialty Care Center of Pensacola. During her 2 1/2 weeks staying there, her intake and output of fluids along with her eating was never monitored. She collapsed during PT of massive dehydration. She was unresponsive and rushed to West Florida Hospital and admitted to the ICU. After four days, she is still in intensive care. Her mental status has deteriorated and she is very weak. She was extremely dehydrated and her blood pressure plummeted. She was also unable to eat and failed a swallow study. They had to place a feeding tube in her. Prior to her surgery, she had no signs of dementia and had no speech difficulties. Now her cognition is poor and she is unable to speak. They are moving her to a step down long term care ICU facility to continue her recovery. Please do not take your loved one to Specialty Care Center of Pensacola.

my mother went to the Specialty Center first for rehab after after a fall. When my mother needed 23/7 care that is where we took her. I have nothing but good things to say about the facility. The rehab was great ( my mom gave them a head time because she didn't want to do it)...now that's she's back and doesn't have to do therapy she is happy there, ALL of the staff are very caring and helpful. My mom has a bath every other day (daily if needed) her but ALL aids are very attentive, her hair rolled by aid (Linda). The food is just wonderful and there is plenty and a nice variety. They have plenty of activity, church, bingo, crafts, several musical visitors, special Holiday actives, etc. My mother isn't very social but she found one thing she enjoys, sitting in the hall in the evening and giving out candy to who ever wants it. My mom has NO COMPLAINTS and neither do we...I would recommend this Center for your loved one.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother was very ill when she was admitted to the Specialty Care Center. We were transferring her from another nursing home where she had become very ill and nearly died. Specialty Care isn't the Taj Mahal of India. It is an old, antiquated nursing home facility. We also found that the nursing staff were not exactly star material for Grey's Anatomy either. But these seasoned nurses and not so young physical therapy staff, knew their stuff and they were extremely knowledgeable about how to treat and care for my poor end of life mother. Eventually, through Specialty Care's diligence and care, my mother got well enough to take home. There are so many nice things I'd like to say about Specialty Care Center. I suppose the thing I appreciated the most, was their availability. I had everyone's phone number from the administrator on down. They encouraged me to call with questions or concerns. And, I did. Thank you Specialty Care I am so grateful to your staff for giving my mother a few more happy years of life and as well as giving her back that sense of dignity. I truly appreciate all of you.

The nurses at Specialty Center of Pensacola gave my mother-in-law pretty good care. She was at the facility for rehabilitation purposes and they were able to help her get her strength back.
