This community of residents is a perfect reflection of Pueblo. Most of the residents have lived in Pueblo for many years and the small town nature of our residents is around every corner. The community room is filled with the art, Jewelry, and crafts that the residents love to do. Several of our residents have a green thumb and enjoy spending time in our garden just off our patio. We are no stranger to Bingo and other games, but the heart of our residents is in the community itself.
What programs or activities does Brookdale El Camino offer to enrich residents' well-being?
Brookdale has the Optimum life Programs curriculum. At Brookdale El Camino, our programs department does more than provide activities for our residents. The optimum life program helps the community directors to enrich the quality of life of the residents that live with us. We want to take into account each resident that lives with us and give them the opportunity to contribute to the community. Every resident has something to share with the community, Optimum life gives them a chance to do just that. Optimum life focuses on purpose driven lifestyle. We seek to help our residents find purpose in their day. Not just occupy their day with games and puzzles.
What places are near Brookdale El Camino or within walking distance for assisted living residents to enjoy?
Walmart is just down the street from our community. While it might be a little to far to walk to. Our driver makes a special trip every Wednesday to make sure that our residents get what they need. Even if that is just some time outside of the community.

Brookdale takes the dining experience to the next level. We can accommodate many different diets and eating restrictions. Our menu is constantly evolving and adapting to the tastes of our residents. Each month the residents are able to meet with the Dining Room Manager and our Chef to be able to accommodate the requests of our residents. The dining experience is more than what is on your plate, it is the community that eats with you, and the experience you have with our service. Brookdale hires dedicated servers to help make the dining experience the best it can be. We work together to ensure that new residents are able to find friends they feel comfortable eating with so no one has to eat alone.

With 24 hour non-medical oversight at the community residents have the peace of mind of knowing that someone will be there to help them at any time. During the day we do 4 hour room checks, unless the resident is our in our community and we know they are ok. Brookdale has a nurse that is on staff and is able to guide our staff to the safest measures if an emergency does occur. While residents are free to come and go as they please, our doors will notify the associates should someone decide to leave after hours.
How does Brookdale El Camino keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
Diana, our Executive Director, has been in senior living for 20+ years. If anyone knows the importance of communication it is her. Brookdale schedules regular care conferences with families as a part of the move in process. The first one after two weeks in the community, again four weeks later, and every six weeks after that or as needed. Communication comes from every department. From activities, to clinical each director is available and plays a role in making sure you stay informed about your residents.
What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at Brookdale El Camino during daytime and nighttime hours?
Brookdale is different then most companies. Rather than staff off of the occupancy of residents in the community. We staff our care givers off of the care plans that make up our community. So the ratio of staff has less to do with how many residents we have and more to do with how much care we have to do each day and night at our community.

Brookdale does monthly education for all staff. Topics range from dementia specialty training, safe transfers, socialization, and a number of other topics as well. Nothing is better than the on the job training. Brookdale El Camino has a very long standing team. make sure to ask to meet some of the team when you come in and visit!
