"We went to Fairhaven Denton. I thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Georgina showed us around and we met several members of the staff. The place is beautiful. We have not made a decision. We have just started the search, and this is only the second place that we toured. I liked the brightness and openness of the place. When we walked in, everything was just airy, bright, breezy, with lots of visiting areas, and that impressed me. There are a lot of different locations where if you have company, you can go and sit or visit with other people. The dining room was gorgeous. There are outside areas for visiting, and there is patio furniture, so that really impressed us. When you first walk into the place, that first impression is very valuable, and that's the way we felt when we first got in there. It was just very bright and open. I like all the windows with the light coming in. It's very open and very open and bright, and that's important. Even the hallways were well lit. It's just very inviting. I would love to live out there if that's what we decided that we needed to do. We're just not ready to make a decision yet. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Georgina spent a lot of time with us. She introduced us to Brianna, the person in charge of medication, to one of the nurses, to the young man who does the housekeeping, and to Mason, the maintenance engineer. We met all of them, and we met another woman, too, who's an aide, and everybody was very friendly, and very accommodating. Everything was spotless. It was wonderful. We were not invited for a meal. We were shown a sample menu and it just looked wonderful. Georgina also mentioned that there is an alternate menu that's available in case you're not interested in the entrée, and it's always available. What I saw was very nice -- three balanced meals -- and that's what my husband has to have because he is diabetic. Georgina mentioned that they have a bus or a van that takes people for shopping and eating out. We met the activities director, she popped in, and met us. She was meeting with some of the residents just around a table outside under an umbrella, and she seemed very energetic. They also have a lot of games available and places to play those games. They have different card games, board games, and arts. We saw an art table, and there's a piano. My husband is a musician, and so he was interested in the piano. They have calendars up on the wall showing all the different things that are going on there. It looked to me as if the residents stayed engaged and connected, and that's important. I noticed that Georgina kept referring to it as a community, and that was nice, the way she said that. She was very helpful and very knowledgeable."

"Lake Forest had a library, and they had a chapel room where you could meet for church. They had a little lake where you could be outside; that was one of the things that we really wanted. That one even had a place where you could have a garden space of your own. "

"My mom moved to Village on the Park Denton. It seemed like it was clean and had a friendly staff. It was convenient to where my father lives, that's why it's relevant, but also the quality of care seems good. Her apartment is a nice size. They help get her to and from meals and daily activities."

"We're in the process of moving my father over to Whitley Place. They were just really helpful and they have some really good advice for him with his memory issues. I was impressed by that. I have seen the place but I haven't got him over there. I visited in person. I like the fact that it was small and there were less residents, but more people to help with the ressidents that were there. It's also close to my house and that's what I needed."

"Mother is not fond of the layout at Mustang Creek Estates because you only have one bedroom, and then you share everything else. It's not like you have your own little apartment thing, but other than that, it is a really nice place. It is very clean, and there is a walking sidewalk around all the buildings. It has separate little buildings, and you only have a few residents in each building, so it's more like a homier family kind of thing. The staff was absolutely magnificent there, and they were really wonderful. They have a bunch of things they do. They take the residents places, for appointments, to the stores, and everything else. "

"We went to Vintage Retirement Community Assisted Living , they took us right in, showed us everything, and gave us everything we needed. We felt good about that. It used to be a hospital, and they turned it into a home, and it's just awesome. They have different divisions. When you walk in, you're immediately addressed by somebody. The people were just very, very accommodating. Right off, even some of the people that lived there were sitting in the lounge room and were like, "Oh, hi." And we're like, "Wow, so these people are really happy to be there." They don't have a garden and hoopla like that, which is fine. I think we're going to go with them because we went by a few times and they invited my parents up to go to bingo, and that made it a familiar area. And that was all their suggestion, and I thought that was cool. It's the way to go. They have different floors for different needs so that people can go anywhere, and their apartments are just totally conducive. They have all the right equipment and it's very much home. It is pet friendly. They have a memory care apartment, or in case the wife is not memory care and the husband is, she's allowed to stay with him in the same apartment with all the services. This place is totally amazing and I was very pleased that they didn't push anything. It did not look institutionalized. The lady that took us around was informative, totally patient in answering my questions, and she just made it a warm feeling that my parents are happy there. They tried to make sure that everyone was active, and if they're not, they find them a match, like if there's another lady like my mom in terms of personalities they encourage them to engage. I went there several times, and one time I went there during dinnertime. The only thing they didn't like was that they have constant seating, but I understand that. The food was awesome. They also have an overnight apartment, so say you came in from out of town and you're going to want to stay with your mom, you can come and stay in this apartment, which is cool."
