"I toured Harmony at Hope Mills. The staff showed me the activities room and the PT area. She sent me the menu and everything, and there's a little bistro there where they can go. The living space was nice and adequate. They're tiny, but designed to be that way because those people can't take care of themselves or their property, so the living space is fine."

"We toured Red Springs Assisted Living. It was well kept. The staff seemed to be very active in taking care of patients. I didn't see anything negative. However, once you tour some of these places and you realize that your parents are not quite ready for that type of assisted living, and they're more capable than having to do that. It was a good education though, and nothing negative about the place. They had good basic living conditions. It wasn't plush, but it was very accommodating. They did not have a gym, but I remember there was a room for exercise. I saw a dining area, but I did not see a courtyard. It was a very quick tour. It was very clean though. It's probably 15 miles from Lumberton where there is a hospital, and there are several fast-food type restaurants within two or three miles."

"Magnolia Gardens felt like home. It was well decorated and well furnished. The staff was very friendly as we toured, and our tour guide interacted with other staff. Everyone seemed positive and upbeat. It's beautiful and very clean. Everything's on one floor. It was very brightly lit and it was effectively laid out in that the hallways came out toward the dining area, so there was a central place to come to from those hallways. The rooms were a bit smaller than I expected, but better furnished and cleaner than I was expecting."

"We visited TerraBella Southern Pines and toured their assisted living. My mom is choosing it because her doctor requires a nursing staff. It has to be nurses, not nursing aides. The place also had more activities and things to offer, including more support services. It has things the residents could do, and they have people who come in and do things for the patients, like podiatry. She can also have physical therapy there. There are more things for her to do in-house or even outside of the community. The staff assessed my mom to determine that she would be a fit for assisted living while we were there. We had that evaluation done by a nurse, and she was very professional and very good. It was a surprise because we were there on a Saturday, so we didn't think she would have the assessment, but it worked out that she was there. We saw the activities director, too. She was leading two different classes while we were there, so we saw her interacting with patients and were very impressed with her. One of the members of management did our tour and gave us the information, and we were quite pleased with her. I think the rooms are about what I would expect. It had a refrigerator and a microwave, so the appliances in there were about what I would expect. The bathroom is about what I would expect, too. I was surprised that there was carpet in the rooms, but I understand they are remodeling. We looked at two different sizes. The suite was the smaller one, and it was adequate, but a little tight for my mom's wheelchair. She's gonna move into what they call an apartment. It's a one-bedroom setup that has a little bedroom and a tiny living room. Their dining area was set up very nicely. They are accommodating to work with my mom's diet, too. She may need special accommodations for some meals, so they will cook her a separate meal if needed. I was also surprised at the number of choices that she would have."

"I went to visit Heritage Place. It was lovely, nice, and pleasant, and the people were also pleasant. The staff that we met there were very caring and concerned. We saw their apartments, they were lovely and nice, roomy, and clean. But the price wasn't feasible for me, it was out of my range. I've seen the complete facility and their facilities were lovely. It was very clean and fresh. It had a beauty salon where you had to make appointments. Their spaces outside were well taken care of, and the staff was with the residents."

"The tour we had of Brookdale Pinehurst's assisted living was provided by one of the managers, and she was so spectacular. My mom almost chose this facility because of her. It was a little more plain than the other place we visited. It was decorated, but seemed a little lacking. There were lots of soft tones on the walls, which, on one hand, were calming but were almost hospital-like. The halls were smaller and less wide, so there was plenty of room for a wheelchair, but not as much room as you would find in a hospital. We expected it to be a bit bigger. Some things looked like they needed to be updated, and some things looked like they were coming closer to the end of their life. It's nicer than what I have in my home, though, so I'm not criticizing. Just comparing the two places we have visited, walking into one and then walking into the other. Their activities for the seniors are limited. Everybody was closed up in their rooms, and they weren't out and about socializing with each other."

"My dad moved into Seven Lakes Assisted Living & Memory Care one week ago. The number one thing was that the staff was very, very friendly and seemed to be very caring. They were very concerned and very assured that he would go and fit in and be okay. They have basic amenities, you know, showers, the things that you need. Everything seems okay. It looks like a little older place. It can do a little bit of freshen-up. They have a nice courtyard with places where you can go and have like a picnic, a picnic area. They have a little walk-in place, not big, but a little walk-in place where they can walk. They have a treadmill, puzzles, and games."

"I toured the Autumn Care of Raeford. It was an old facility, but it was clean. They had activities. They stopped what they were doing and gave me a tour right then, and I just walked in. So, they even talked to me about prices and all that stuff. They showed me the shower rooms. They even told me they shower them like three times a week unless we asked them to do it more. If we wanted them to have a shower every day, then that's what they would do. The staff was very friendly. For my aunt's stage, they don't have a single room. They have two people in it, and for two people their rooms were small."

"I like Open Arms Retirement. JJ and the staff there really cared about the folks there. They had it really good. They showed us around, answered all our questions, and helped us out a lot. They even called and checked on us for a little bit. The facilities were awesome. We didn't sample their food, but the kitchen area was really nice and clean. We liked everything that we saw there."

"My mom was a resident of Hope Springs, the staff gave my mom excellent care and the management was always asking me if everything’s was okay. They were so caring and loved her as if she were their own. I highly recommend Hope Springs, mom was able to stay there until the end of her life. I can’t express enough how wonderful they were to her. From the laundry, dietary needs and the special care that she needed at the end, the quality of care was SUPERB! I highly recommend Hope Springs Assisted Living."

"The Addison of Fayetteville was decent. However, it was a lot smaller. My friend is a very social person, and they only had 42 residents, and it was predominantly memory care. At the time that we were looking, it was very important to us to have my friend have that opportunity for assisted living. The memory care part was fantastic, but the assisted living left something to be desired only because they only had maybe 16 assisted living residents. The staff was excellent though. They were wonderful. They had a nice quaint dining area. The menu was very similar to the other two places where they had three choices a day and an ala carte menu of something available all the time. They had a salon where somebody would come in a few times a week and be available for haircuts and things of that nature."

"I spoke with one of the owners of this agency looking for a home health aid for my ailing grandfather. She seemed very caring and reassured me that if I decided to use her agency I would have one of he most caring and professional nursing assistants caring for him. While in her office, I was able to meet the co-owner who though was very busy at the time still took the time to greet me and let me know that if I ever felt a need to contact her than I should feel free to do so. The office staff including the office manager were all very friendly and professional which makes me believe that everyone values their job and are willing to do what it takes to make clients satisfied. This agency offered a variety of services from general home aids to licensed practical nurses and even had around the clock service in the event that I needed to be gone for a few days and did not want to leave my grandfather alone. I didn't even have to inquire about most of the services, the owner just mentioned them all to me. It is clear that she thought of everything someone might need and made sure that she provided services to fit those needs. Although I am still deciding on a service provider for my grandfather, I will assure you that this agency is in my top 2 choices right now. "

"My father is at Carolina Inn at Village Green. I rate it very, very good. He seems to be very happy. They have plenty of help for the residents. They have all kinds of activities for the residents. It's really a wonderful place to live. I have tried their food and it was good. The common areas are wonderful. They have music shows, magic shows, and comedians that come in. They have bingo during the week. They always have something special for every holiday. They have a lot of activities. They have wine tasting once a month. He is in a single room. It's big enough for his bed, a dresser, a computer desk, a couple of chairs, his recliner, and another chair. They're very clean. He seems very satisfied with his room. The staff is extremely helpful and extremely nice. They were very good to work with when we were getting my father registered and getting him into the facility. His floor has like eight rooms on it, and they have a nurse assigned just to that floor. There's plenty of staff. Also for assisted living, their food is very good. It's not five-star cuisine, but it's very good. They go around the room every day and personally ask off the menu and fill out the menu for everybody in the complex for the next day. The community is beautiful. It has a beautiful outdoor area, a beautiful covered patio, and open areas. There are two or three small what we call family rooms that have couches where you could go in and visit. They have two or three activities every week now. My father doesn't participate in a lot of them just because it's not his thing. They have the schedules posted in the elevator, and so I see all the things that they're having. It's a little bit more expensive than where he was, but it sure is nicer. "
