"Sayre Health Center provides total care. Mother is in a private room and it's beautiful. It isn't just a nursing home, it's for rehabilitation and all sorts of things they have people in for. The Alzheimer's and dementia patients are right in with the regular population which is what I like because that keeps her more active and she will cope to these normal people as well. The food is pretty good. I've had the food myself. The staff is very good and very helpful as far as I can see. If anything happens, they always notify me immediately and if they can't get me they call one of my other brothers or my sister. They're very quick to respond. If I have a question, they call me back right away. They have cookies and coffee during the day. They also have a snack cart that comes around in the afternoon. They quite often have popcorn night or movie night with popcorn. They really do a nice job, I think, much better than the other place that we were in but with a different setup. They have lots of groups that come in for singing, band concerts, choral concerts and country western bands. They have trips to the casino, trips to the mall and trips to see the Christmas lights. They have bingo and book club. I like the place. My whole family is quite happy with it. "

"You can go online to see the varied living situations that Longview can provide. I only have experience with my mother (97) in assisted living. The Longview staff has been very king and attentive to my mother's needs. They made the move in process as painless as possible. We had the choice of using th furnishings supplied by the facility or bring our own. We did a mix and brought our own bed, dresser, TV and stand etc. And we used the existng wardrobe, lamps and bedside table. The rooms are similar to a hotel room but all have accessible bathrooms. Cable TV and phone are provided at a very reasonable price. Staff is present 24/7 and don't hesitate to phone if their are any issues. The meals are served in a very pleasant dininng room that is one floor down via elevator. The food is very good. There is daily menu. My mom loves the breakfast where you order anything you want. The facility is state licensed and the staff is very strict about the mandated rules, especially regardingthe handling of medications. I wish the rooms were a little more apartment-like and that they were on a ground level floor. Overall I would recommend Longview for it's attentive staff, great food and reasonable costs. "

Sherwood Retirement and Personal Care Home is a "private pay" home established in 1999 by owners and administrators Jim and Karen Sherwood, who reside in the home as well. Initially we had one wing, our East wing and later in 2003 we expanded our home to include a West wing to give us a total of 24 private /semi-private bedrooms. This expansion also included a formal dining room, sitting room, parlor, living room, family room and additional laundry space. We maintain a commercial well and septic system for the personal care home and we are currently licensed for 27 residents. We are situated on 38 acres of land 1.9 miles East of the red light on Route 414 in Canton, Pa. Our facility is all ground floor access and living, has spacious flat maintained grounds, many patios, wide sidewalks and sits a good ways back away from the main highway. "I was very skeptical of my grandmother going into any sort of facility. I am of the mindset that these facilities are often not run properly and the staff is not competent. That being said, I was pleasently surprised with Bridges Cornell Heights. My grandmother is not in the worst shape, but her mind has gone somewhat over the years. But she is mobile, which helps. The facility is "nice" meaning that it's not overly luxurious but it is certainly pleasent. The biggest concern I had for her was the staff and this is where my expectations were really blown away. I found the staff to be extremely competent and most importantly, kind and understanding. They were patient with with her always even when she had no clue where she was. Overall, it changed my opinion of facilities like this and I have no direct concerns for her well being. "
