"My father-in-law moved to Colonial Heights and Gardens and they pay attention to their residents. They don't just say, "Okay, go sit in your apartment until we call you for dinner." There are activities and they're checking in on them. They have a bus that takes residents to go shopping if they don't have some other form of transportation. You can arrange it. They have volunteers that can arrange to drive people to doctor's appointments as long as they're within a five-mile range from the facility. They have activities. They have bingo and they have people that come in and perform and sing. For instance, they have a Thanksgiving dinner that they'll have planned and you can schedule to have dinner with your family. For Halloween, they had trick or treating. I know for the 4th of July in the summer, they do a barbecue where they invite family members to come. So, they keep them active. They sometimes have trips where they go to movies or events that are happening locally as long as people sign up for them and they have enough buses that transport them to the event. The facility is nice, pretty, comfortable, and clean. The staff is all nice, but when they need to be stern, especially a grouchy old man like my father-in-law where he's like, "No, I don't want to go down to dinner." they would say "No, come on, you got to move. Let's go." They serve three meals a day. They go to the dining room to their assigned seating and they serve them. They have cards, even Taichi, and a little chair yoga. Compared to other ones, they are reasonable."

"I went to Legacy Living Florence. It was a beautiful facility. It was beyond anything that I had expected. I loved it. I think my parents would love it when they're ready to move in. It's clean and organized. It was just a beautiful area. And, the people were great, too. Overall, it was a great experience visiting. They had a two-bedroom. They're like townhomes, four in a row. And some of them had basements and some of them did not. The only drawback I had with the apartments in the main building was that they had to go down and take their laundry down the hall to the laundry room to do the laundry. They could not have a washer and dryer hookup in their rooms, but in the outer buildings, I guess they call them townhomes, they come with washers and dryers in them. But other than that, it was very nice. I noticed when I was there that they were taking the memory care patients out on a trip, which I thought was pretty neat to see. I just happened to see that they have a lot of memories there. They treat their veterans. They have a veteran wall, that of people that live there and show which branch they're in. When they were in, they had a nice movie theater, game room, and activity center. Overall, it just looked like a very pleasant place to live. They have all the rooms on the inside and walk out to a courtyard. It looks like there's a church there. The chapel is built on the inside of the courtyard, and it lifts me to see that there. I know my parents would love that. It was just a nice place."

"Stay away from this facility! Staff is lazy, untrained and uncaring. Residents hygiene is not attended to, laundry is rarely done and any request is ignored. Staff is not responsive and is full of excuses. I am very frustrated with this facility."

"This would have been the one we chose to send my father to. It had more of an open feel for the place. They have higher ceilings and bright rooms. We just walked in and talked to them and did the tour. They had certain nights where they did an open bar deal and it was just like a coffee thing they had with Starbucks. They also said they did cooking classes, which we thought our dad would like more than crafting. In their theater room, they did a lot of history shows and they'd have people come in and do educational stuff on history and all that. Then they had a little courtyard that had a little putting green. They showed us a one-bedroom with a full fridge instead of a mini fridge."

"Ohio Living Llanfair is clean and there are a lot of amenities. It's probably the best value for what you get and it's one of the nicest facilities I've visited. Their apartment is freshly painted with new carpet, and it's conveniently laid out for somebody who is a little bit mobility impaired. Everybody was very friendly and professional. There's an exercise room, all kinds of art classes, a library, group activities, and outings. As far as independent living goes, there's a lot of flexibility to make some minor add-ons for somebody who's not quite ready for assisted living, but needs a little bit of help now and again. So, it's independent living with a plus."

"My husband is admitted to Optimized Senior Living Newtown. It's small. It only has 8 to 10 people, so that makes for better care, and I feel comfortable with that. It's in a home setting. It's not like a nursing home. The staff is excellent. My husband eats everything. They serve home-cooked meals. They played bingo and they had an Olympic day. So, I think their activities are good."

"My wife has been in the same facility for the last five years. She's in The Kenwood by Senior Star, and she's going to be there for the duration. The administrative staff is pretty good. There's quite a bit of turnover in the help. My wife is now up on the third floor. She was in the memory care unit for the first three years, and then they moved her up one floor to the skilled nursing unit because her condition has deteriorated. She can't walk and she can't talk. However, it seems to me that I see new caregivers in there almost every time I go in. They seem OK, but there's just a lot of turnovers. My wife has a nice room. It's a first-class room. It has a separate bedroom, a huge bathroom, and two TVs that are permanently mounted on the wall. One TV faces her, so can watch her when she's in bed, and the other one is in the living room. Her room has a little sink, so it is a very nice room. The food is very good. They serve a completely balanced meal, and every meal is well prepared. I have no complaints about that at all. Well, I pay $15,000 a month to have my wife in the facility, so it's not cheap. I've looked at some other facilities and I could probably save $5000 a month but I have to move her, and I prefer not to do that right now. In terms of day-to-day everyday caregiving people, because there's so much turnover, I'd be more comfortable if they were the same people most of the time. You would think that the core of the caregiving staff would be consistent week after week, but it's not in this case, and that may be the case with all of these kinds of facilities. They do bring in activities. A lady comes in and leads the group in singing, and sometimes they have people read to the group when they get everybody to sit down in the common area. They have a nice sort of a garden area where there's a lot of sun coming in. There's an inside version of that and then there's an outside version, so they don't have to go outside the building, they could stay on their floor and still, they can get outside a little bit. I would rate the facilities, first class, all the way."

"Brookdale Finneytown was clean and very personable. I was able to talk to some of the residents and they were very happy with the way things were going. The staff answered all of our questions. She was very knowledgeable and willing to make sure that she showed us all the area. We had lunch with them. They gave us a choice of what we wanted. They had a menu of what they were offering, and I met the chef who personally came over to our table. She talked about the way things were set up and how they do the meals. I saw one bedroom and it was nice and cozy. It had a walk-in shower and a bedroom. They also had a gazebo outside."

"We visited Deer Park Assisted Living. We enjoyed it. It was a nice visit. The staff was very nice, friendly, and organized. It seemed like a very nice place. The tour went through the entire location. We viewed several rooms, and we walked to the community outside. It was a nice, thorough view of the entire area. Their staffing is one of the strong points I like about them. From the time that we walked in up to the time we walked out, they were very nice. We called back afterwards to ask a couple of questions, and we got some good service. Another reason why we liked it is that they were in the process of upgrading the flooring and trying to make it a very nice place."

"Traditions at Camargo was very nice, but the price was going to be so much for me or for my brother. He doesn't want anything too marvelous. The staff was very nice and accommodating with any questions that we had. It's brand new and very clean, but it felt more institutional and not as warm. They had a large community area near the entrance."

"My mother-in-law is at Atria Northgate Park. She has dementia, so she doesn’t know everything that’s going on there, but they do offer a lot. They offer a lot of family gatherings. They do a lot to incorporate the family into the day with them. They have nice meals to go along with that, so there are always entertainers. They bring in singers and musicians. They have bingo a couple times a week. They have arts and crafts. They do a lot for the residents. The staff is very kind and caring. The only thing I can say in a negative tone was they actually have a lot of outbreaks that they have to be quarantined. That’s the only negative I can say about the place. The staff has been very kind and very receptive to any questions you have. The nurses are great at that. They’re very kind to my mother-in-law. "

"I like The Village at Eastgate. It looks clean. They have nice-sized rooms. It's a nice community. The lady that gave me an interview and the tour were very nice. They were helpful."

"My father lived at Brookdale Kenwood for 2.5 years. We could not have asked for a better place for him. Everyone treated him (and us) with great care and compassion. We highly recommend this facility to anyone who wants their loved one to be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. We looked all over Cincinnati, and this is by far the best. WONDERFUL people! "
