I am residing in the independent living community of Colonial Heights Senior Living in Florence. The food is good, and they check on you if, for some reason, you don't go down to the dining room or the front desk. They check every single day, and they call for a wellness check. I thought that's a good selling point, although I haven't needed that because I have gone down at least once every day. They have maintenance five days a week, and there's certain stuff they will help you do. Housekeeping is once a week, which I think is normal for most places. Everybody I have met has been so cordial and welcoming. Most days, they have cards and other activities. They do have shopping one day a week, I think. I notice in my calendar that they take people to Kroger or Dollar General. You can sign up and go to those. Like the others, they also have rides for you for appointments. They have carports available, but that's at an extra cost. I didn't sign up for that because I don't think any of them are empty anyway. I can use my scooter inside, but I have a long way to go to the main elevator, which is the one that my scooter would fit in. It goes down to the main entrance, and there you will see the dining room, mail room, reception, barbershop, exercise room, the library, and all the different conference rooms. Everything is in that area. The one thing that this place doesn't have, that others do, I believe, is that it only offers you two meals a day. I only eat two meals per day, anyway, because I have a protein shake every morning and that's it, so it worked out perfectly for me. If I wanted breakfast, I could always go down, and then they would add a nominal cost to my monthly bill. They also have a delivery service to your room. One weekend since I've been here, I wasn't feeling right, and I was afraid that maybe I had stomach flu or something. I didn't want to go to the dining room those two evenings and be around the other residents and maybe spread it. I called down, and they asked if I would want to bring the meal up. There's a $2 minimum charge, which they just add to your monthly bill. They deliver it right up to your room, it's still hot, and they bring drinks and plastic silverware in case you don't have them. The food is good, and I haven't had anything I didn't like, but it's not home cooking or a gourmet restaurant. I made an appointment and had my haircut at the beauty and barber shop, and the young lady there was phenomenal, just as good as I've ever had, and I'm very happy with it. I haven't been to a lot of activities where the staff were in charge, like the chair exercises, where they have, I assume, a staff member. I also haven't been to bingo, but they have that. There are some card events where you're just basically playing cards with the people at your table. There is also a happy hour. I haven't been here long enough to take in all the activities. There was a church service, and that was nice. I went to that one on Sunday. This coming Friday, they're having some kind of picnic thing. I haven't been to anything like that yet. I noticed that they also give you a monthly and a daily activity list. For the coming week, I noticed it says two names and a birthday party. It gives initials for what room it's going to be in, so I'm guessing residents celebrate their birthdays here.

My sister will move into Colonial Heights Senior Living. The staff was very accommodating. They took us around and showed us everywhere. It was very nice. We're in a one-bedroom apartment. We're in the studio. It's very small because it's not what she's used to, but it seemed like all the furnishings and stuff she would need fit. So, it's pretty spacious. The kitchen was very small, though, but she won't be using the kitchen anyway. The kitchen could be larger, but it would accommodate what she needs.

My wife and I have found a place in Colonial Heights Senior Living. They're doing a lot of remodelling, which is good. According to the income for this place, this is one of the cheaper places for independent living. It's affordable and there are benefits, which include two meals a day, and most of the utilities are covered. The staff is friendly too. We're not involved too much in the activities, but it seems like they have a lot of nice ones here. We are staying in a 1-bedroom apartment with one bath and a den. It's very nice, and it's remodeled. The hallway out there was a mess one time because they tore out all the carpet. It's like they're remodeling the whole place, but the place we're living in is great. They had a little bit of trouble with the maintenance, but they fixed everything. The Wi-Fi was a little bit of a problem, but it's being fixed, too.

The staff is superb. They are very caring, always pleasant, and work extremely hard to offer help when we need it--really more like family than staff. There is a wide range of well-planned apartment sizes and options. The food is, of course, institutional, but very good and includes something for everyone. Beautiful grounds, nice places to relax outside with friends when weather permits. Exercise facilities, lots of varied activities, small beauty shop, etc. A very friendly community.

My father-in-law moved to Colonial Heights and Gardens and they pay attention to their residents. They don't just say, "Okay, go sit in your apartment until we call you for dinner." There are activities and they're checking in on them. They have a bus that takes residents to go shopping if they don't have some other form of transportation. You can arrange it. They have volunteers that can arrange to drive people to doctor's appointments as long as they're within a five-mile range from the facility. They have activities. They have bingo and they have people that come in and perform and sing. For instance, they have a Thanksgiving dinner that they'll have planned and you can schedule to have dinner with your family. For Halloween, they had trick or treating. I know for the 4th of July in the summer, they do a barbecue where they invite family members to come. So, they keep them active. They sometimes have trips where they go to movies or events that are happening locally as long as people sign up for them and they have enough buses that transport them to the event. The facility is nice, pretty, comfortable, and clean. The staff is all nice, but when they need to be stern, especially a grouchy old man like my father-in-law where he's like, "No, I don't want to go down to dinner." they would say "No, come on, you got to move. Let's go." They serve three meals a day. They go to the dining room to their assigned seating and they serve them. They have cards, even Taichi, and a little chair yoga. Compared to other ones, they are reasonable.

The amenities here were nice. They have all kinds of activities and they have a kitchen where you can do some of your own cooking if you choose to. The meals are provided and they said if you couldn't make it down to the dining area that they would bring them up to your room, which is good. Everything was great. The apartment had a bedroom that is separate, and then the living room and the dining room were made in the same place, but they were big enough where you can keep them separate. So it was really nice. All the people that we met seemed really nice too, and they were doing their job and everything was OK.

My parents moved here about a month ago. We chose it because it's a referral and pretty much kind of the only one that had something available. It's a very clean and very nice place. They've been there a month, so they've been dealing with a lot of doctor's appointments. I can't say that they've settled down enough to do any activities. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They are very caring and very thorough. They have a good variety of food. They have good cooks and good servers.

I liked it, but I don't think it's right for my mother. I liked the setting, where it was. The rooms were very nice, very clean. The staff was very cordial and nice, and they were very professional. I would recommend it for people to check it out. The people were very, very nice. The one-bedroom apartment is wonderful, but I had to be put on a waiting list, so I had to wait. I did get to talk to some of the residents, they were very nice, they liked living there, and the people were very friendly, nice. They keep everything very clean.

My loved one is here. It seems to be very nice and offers what one would need. Her apartment is adequate and clean. The dining area is very nice, clean, and efficient. Food is fairly good. They have some activities. The staff seems very nice and caring.

My mom was here. The room that she had was nice and spacious with a well-equipped bathroom. The dining room was in the housing area for the memory care patients. It was nice and clean. It was a really nice place. However, they didn’t have enough skill or care to handle my mom’s condition. The facilities were good, and the people were really nice.
