"We lived in the Villas of Holly Brook for a while. It was a little plush. However, they decided they would give us a rent raise of six and we didn't have that kind of money. It was alright, but it was financially too much. We couldn't afford it. The staff members were nice. They were great. The food was good, too. They were good people."

"I moved my mom into Carriage Crossing of Decatur. She's doing very well. She's happy where she's at. She likes all the people like the nurses and the staff. It is very clean and very organized. They're very helpful. I'm impressed with the staff. The staff is fantastic. I told my husband after moving my mom to a couple of different places first, that the third time's the charm, and it has worked out wonderful. My mom's room is almost like a studio apartment. She has a queen-sized bed, and it fits in there just fine. She's got a desk and an armoire in there for her clothes. Her bathroom is enormous. It's wheelchair accessible. She has an easy time getting around there. Overall, it's very clean. The maintenance men and the housekeepers, are right on top of things. She's already got all of her Christmas stuff hung up, which we bought her as a Christmas present. They've already done it. Overall, her room is great. It's cozy. It's comfortable. It's homey. I like her room, and she does, too. The food there is fantastic. Their dining area is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It's made to order. My mom can order whatever she wants, and they'll make it. They have a chef on staff. They have an open salad bar. It's like eating at a restaurant. On Mondays, the activity girl paints all the ladies' nails. They do different things. My mom hasn't been involved in as many activities because right now she is pretty much wheelchair-bound, but they will wheel her anywhere she wants to go. Physical therapy is wonderful. They are re-teaching her how to transfer from her bed to her wheelchair and from the potty to the wheelchair. The last time I talked to the therapist, he was getting her up and having her walk a few steps just to see if he can get enough strength back in her legs so that she can walk with the walker. It's well worth the money that I spend on it, and I'm getting most of everything that I'm paying for. Like there's a salon in there, and my mom can get her hair done, and there's is a nail tech in there if she wants somebody else to do her nails. They've got walk-in bathtubs if she wants to do a spa. They have a lot of amenities for the price that they charge. "

"Taylorville Estates Inc was a nice place. The rooms were nice, and everybody was attuned to what was going on. They had to improve their ventilation system because it's a little stuffy and it didn't seem fresh there. They had a beauty salon and will do your laundry or you can do it yourself. They had a nice dining room and exercise equipment, they can arrange physical therapy if you need it, and they give you your medications. The staff was friendly, and I was very impressed that the manager was an RN who's very in-charge and had everything under control."

"Hickory Estates of Taylorville was a little bit older and not quite as up-to-date as the others, but as far as the staff and all, my impression was good. They had their own little bus that will take people shopping. I saw the board where they had something going on every day."

"Life’s Journey is small -- they only take fifteen people -- but it seemed like a nice and clean place. The rooms have a large bedroom with a bath. They have a dining facility, TV, movies, and games. "

"We toured Hickory Estates. It has a nice location, the rooms are comfortable, and the staff is friendly and cordial. Had mom's condition been a little bit better, we may have gone with them. The rooms are nice and well kept, the arrangement is simple, and they look clean. It seems to be pleasant."

"Chatham Villas of SouthPark is beautiful. Of course, that comes with a price as well, but we're fine with that. It's a five rating all the way around on everything. We liked the idea of my mom being in one place and then having all the help onsite, so you don't have to bring anybody in because they have people there that can come in and bathe you, or make sure you take your medicine. They have all their meals and all that stuff too. We liked that setup better than some of the other ones. It was a very nice facility."

"I visited Timberlake Supportive Living, and the staff is absolutely wonderful. The rooms were very clean and well-maintained. The food was very good. They had a little activity center for the residents to go into, and I thought that was pretty nice. "

"My dad is at Springfield Supportive Living. It's very nice, it's open and airy, and the walls are painted in bright colors. The staff is really friendly and helpful. He has his own apartment, with a sink, refrigerator, bathroom, and a bed. He also has a nice balcony to sit on. They provided all the furniture for him. They come in and give his medicine at night, and they make sure he takes it. They have birds, a fish tank, shuffle boards, and all kinds of activities going on all the time. They have a nice sitting area outside, like a patio, and they have vegetables that they're growing that the residents can water and take care of."

"My mom was in River Birch Living for a while. It was in a beautiful location. It was a very warm and homey environment. It was very clean. The staff was very friendly and very helpful from what I saw. My mom didn't necessarily feel the same way. I thought the care was good, but she didn't feel the same way. At the time, there weren't many residents in there. She was doing much better than she is now. She wanted more activities than what there were. They did bingo, and there were little games that they play. My siblings and I thought the food looked absolutely amazing. They were chef-prepared meals, but she didn't like it. It was in a beautiful location, so the views were beautiful. The room was very nice and very clean. The place itself was well-maintained. They had outdoor areas and indoor areas. There was also a family dining area."

"Imboden Creek is a very good place. The food and the workers are very good, and the rehab has been wonderful. The staff is very kind and good, plus the rooms have adequate space. They have lots of activities like dominoes, Bingo, nail painting, and so on. Other than rehab, they also have exercise classes."

"Villas of Holly Brook & Reflections Springfield is new and very, very nice. They have a division on their site for when a person needs to be contained or given more care. So one person can go there for assisted living and the other person can go for memory care. It's lovely, it's all brand new, and it has everything. All the rooms are wonderful. They had an available apartment that we were able to see that was a two-bedroom, and it was very nice. The person who assisted us during the tour was excellent. She was the executive director. She answered lots of questions, took us on a lovely tour, and we really did like her a lot. We saw the dining area, though we didn't eat there. They have a lunch bar in their living area where they can have coffee, and I think even hot dogs going all the time, and snack bar, and then they have a lovely cafeteria area. They have a wonderful movie room and a really nice recreation room that we saw. They have creative artwork, and that sort of thing that they do with the clients. Another thing they provide is that they'll provide you help with your medications, and they'll have them delivered. Even if you need lab work for a doctor's visit, they can do the lab work there. The staff member was excellent, she was gracious; you'd like for her to be your friend. The layout was very nice and fairly easy; it's very accommodating."
